On the subject of Bioshock Infinite, a lot of those complaints were actually explained, in that they were implied via the various recordings throughout the game, particularly those from Fink.

The racism needs no explanation, it was inherent to the society of the time. I don't believe that I noticed modern gender politics. Seems the gender politics were just not at the forefront of the game's issues.

That doesn't mean that you're not right to be upset about those things, it's just that there are explanations for them. Personally, I found the gameplay to be a major improvement over the prior Bioshock game(s), most modern FPS and most modern chest-high wall love games. It was, frankly, more fun because you were a swashbuckling superstar, rather than someone hiding behind cover every three feet. Not real realistic, but fun.

I agree with the complaints about Psychonauts. Good idea, bleh gameplay. Un-engaging characters barely introduced and then treated, bizarrely, like Raz was best of friends with each one, despite they disappearing very early in the story with minimal contact with Raz.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Holy fucking shit. What a terrible fucking game. It was just one long ass tutorial. With the most annoying sidekick ever. Wiimotion Plus controls are still inaccurate. And I love Zelda! All the Zeldas! But this one sucked.

*Halo: Ultimate generic FPS shooter with bland, derivative story and characters (but at least it had Cortana).
It wasn't particularly generic when it came out well over a decade ago. A combination of features not seen in a single game at that point, a unique aestetic across the board, and a reasonably strong focus on story are all things that were fairly unique at the time. The overwhelming success of the game lead to it's features being copied and iterated upon by those that came after and, in retrospect it may seem derivative but that's a fallacy. At worst it is iterative and even that argument is tenuous.

*Half-Life: Very competent. Good polish and FPS mechanics. Boring as hell. I just can't be bothered to care about anyone. I am still baffled by the amount of love for Alyx out there.
Half-Life is a series where the story is implied more than anything. If you aren't the sort to project ideas into a framework constructed for that purpose, I can see the problem. You might not, for example, like The Elder Scrolls either as a result.

*Uncharted 1: I once wrote a rant about this game that ended up being about 10 pages in Word. That said, I kinda am ok with Nathan Drake, himself, but the baffling blonde, Sully and pretty much every other character drove me nuts. The game has comparably poor shooter mechanics to other cover-based shooters, but insists on being far more "shitty Gears of War" than "competent Tomb Raider Knockoff." The first game also has some fairly blatant racist overtones and finally ends up with zombie nazi/conquistadors. Sorry, terrible game, and that's before you get to the jet ski sequences, which are some of the worst, most random things I have ever played. (Uncharted 2 was a pretty decent improvement in many respects).
I don't really buy this in the slightest. The only way you really find racist overtones in that game is by projecting them on the fact that you're killing people of non-Caucasian descent. Given that you're in a local that will predominately feature such people naturally it's simply a matter of setting. Hell, there isn't even any of the classic white man's burden to fall on here since the motivation of both protagonist and antagonist is simply self-serving greed. The brown people are simply pawns or obstacles to that end.

I would fully accept an argument that the dissonance was overwhelming enough to ruin the game but not the racist angle.

*GTA IV: Wow, I cannot think of a worst cast of characters in a game. GTA has never had "good guys" but, just wow. From a just plain scumbag main character to his downright hate-worthy irritating "friends," and the whole "hey, wanna take me bowling aspect?" Wow. It's a shame. The world-design and driving mechanics were solid, but the weapon/melee combat was awful, but the game also insisted on forcing the weapons through overly scripted events. I will never get over shooting out a guy's tires before engaging the chase portion of his mission and his tires automatically re-inflate. Baloney.
This one I'll agree with in principle. The game was simply broken in a great many ways. I wouldn't call the main character a scumbag so much as I would point to him as being wildly inconsistent. The level of inconsistency will vary depending on how you play the game of course .

BioShock: Infinite. Sorry but your amazing story *snort* doesn't make up for all the gameplay faults:
*It's BioShock's elements downgraded.
*Most of the gameplay is like a Modern Military Shooter.
*It copies Halo: CE, ODST and Reach's health system and some elements of level design (except for the beautiful scenery and large amounts of terrain to get several vantage points).
*You thought BioShock and BioShock 2 were flawed? BioShock: Infinite may as well roll the credits when Elizabeth is around, low on health? Have a 100% health pack. Low on ammo? Have full ammo for your gun. Don't need money? Here's between 8-43 dollars from one coin which I'll give you every ten seconds. It takes all the tension from 1 and 2 away, the only benefit being that you don't have to spend a few minutes scavenging for ammo.

It all merges together to make gameplay which is mediocre at best, soul-crushingly boring at worst. And again, the story is not that good, especially not good enough to justify it.

Bioshock Infinite: Not nearly as good as it was made out to be. Combat was boring and limited with only two weapons, the powers were all rather crappy and there is never enough ammo. Also the story was rather shit.

The Last of Us: A typical Naughty Dog game where we have a good story combined with god-awful gameplay. It's a terribly sub standard third person shooter and that really prevents me from enjoying the game. I play a game to have fun first and foremost so I'm not sticking with gameplay that shit in order to see a decent story.

The Witcher II: Everything in this game is too fucking clunky, buggy and poorly explained. The UI is a mess and the gameplay is rather frustrating.

Fallout New Vegas: There is only one reason why Fallout 3 is a better game... The world. The world in New Vegas is boring as fuck compared to Fallout 3. I don't like how it forces you down one path at the start and there are too many fucking invisible walls. And half the bloody map is completely unused, just wasted space.

Skyward Sword: I couldn't play this game because of the frankly fucking shit controls. Felt like I was fighting the game to get it to work properly rather than playing it. (hell thats the Wii in a nutshell)

Uncharted series: Again Naughty Dog with their sub standard gameplay. The combat is so fucking annoying with it's poor controls and fucking bullet sponge enemies. Good cutscenes don't make up for the crap gameplay.

Battlefield 3: It's a fucking massive downgrade from Bad Company 2. The graphics, destruction, gunplay, map design, class system are far fucking worse than BC2. The weapons are way too fucking floaty and inaccurate.

Journey: Boring fucking boring. I don't care how pretty it is it's just fucking boring, same with Flower.

Saints Row the Third: To me Saints Row 3 is just fucking stupid. It's the kind of stupid that is not funny but just plain stupid. The fourth seems to be continuing this trend (dubstep gun? That isn't funny it's just stupid). Also the game world is boring and lifeless and the controls suck.

Halo 4: 343 Industries ruined Halo. The game used to be about team work and map control and now it's just future Call of Duty where whoever gets the best gun from the sky wins. They removed Halo's unique identity. My friends and I played Halo 3 for years and we played Halo 4 for about two weeks.

Halo 4. I got close to, uh, I think three hours into it and I was basically falling asleep. The story had me, but the combat was the same damn thing and I am just not a fan of that.

I don't understand all the love for Bioshock Infinite, I can only imagine I must have played a different game than everyone else. It's a good game mind you, don't get me wrong, but the way some people talk about it and all the perfect reviews it got... yeah, I don't get it, it's nowhere near that good.

Can't say there are any games out there I really hate though. Generally speaking I tend to research games before buying them so it's rare if I buy a game I don't enjoy.

Fallout 3 maybe? But again like Infinite above I don't hate it, I just consider it... well... boring.

I for one, dont get the love for half life 2. The shooting mechanics are in between good and mediocre, the guns lack impact, the story refuses to tell you anything, and you can trip up the AI easily.

Also Borderlands 2 has a bit too much bullet sponge for the enemies, and theres always a bit too much happening on the screen at once.

Lastly, Fallout 3, with one simple problem. When you're exploring a massive deserted world, and doing lots of walking, WHY IS THERE NO SPRINT BUTTON!? WHY?! GUFHGGGHGJGHGJGF

Not so much 'hate' as 'dislike', but... LittleBigPlanet.

I love the art style and atmosphere of it, and it was one of the games that really caught my attention when the PS3 was in its early days, but I found the gameplay to be rather lacking, and the level creator, while very n-depth, to be far too confusing and very poorly explained, which I felt was meant to be the better half of the experience.

Skyrim. I want to get into it and roleplay like I can do with every other Bethesda game, but I just can't. It feels less like I'm playing a role that I choose and more like I'm playing a videogame. I'm actually installing it now to give it another shot.

As this thread has probably demonstrated, "everybody loves" is probably a bit of a leap for the Witcher 2. Personally, I love the game, but it's certainly not for everyone. It has a large following, but as it isn't a generic mass marketed game of some kind it actually has elements that sizeable demographics won't be able to handle. It's not a game for everyone to love, and you can see that by the number of people posting it in this thread. I'd go so far to say that it's divisive enough to not deserve a place in a thread like this. There are games that come much more closely to being unanimously adored and praised than the Witcher series (the people saying the Witcher 1 in this thread make me laugh, given that it was actually really poorly received and is something even Witcher 2 fans often criticise, although again, I loved it).

]Well, which ones have you played? 3,4,6 and 9 are the best IMO. Haven't played 5 yet.
1 (was alright, spoiled by Golden Sun though), 2, 7, and 10. Each I was able to take progressively less of.

Speaking of which, I can also understand people not liking GS, odd 'fff where's the guide' moments, especially Djin collection, sudden plot reversal in the second game, 16-bit rpg fatigue... but damn if I don't love those games.

TF2.
I put in over 500 hours as the scout before the class updates started rolling in and it wasn't until the Scout's update that I saw flaws. The item drop system made it worse and then the Engineer update that ruined 2fort made me quit completely and I haven't looked back.

For people who liked other maps, 2fort was ruined by the wrangler. 2fort had 3 ways to get into the enemy base, 1 was the main bridge, one was the water/sewer, and the third was reserved for Scouts and classes with explosives, which was running across the roof of the bridge, jumping straight up to the enemy fort's battlements. The Wrangler (could have been changed by now, I don't care) allows the engineer to use their extremely powerful sentry gun for long range attacks. Previously, the battlements were dominated by snipers because they could kill things at range, scouts were effective counters to the sniper due to their speed. Engineers would sometimes build sentry guns on the battlements, but sentry guns had limited range and wouldn't be able to target anything on the other side of the bridge, allowing people to destroy sentries from a distance, clearing the way for scouts to rush in and do their thing. When the Wrangler was released, 2 engineers could dominate the ENTIRE top area of the map, forcing anyone who wanted to actually do the mission objective, capture the flag, to go through the sewers, which is easily defended with a non-wrangled sentry gun. A single sentry gun could kill anyone who stepped out onto the battlements and usually also have time to clean out anyone who took the bridge as well.

TF2 has been ruined according to me, they have unbalanced and changed the game to the point where it is an entirely new game. They even made it free-to-play which was dumb. Release a free-to-play version and put all of your stupid pay-to-win weapons and accessories in that one, I cannot find a relatively unchanged 2fort server to play on and that is my problem with it. The one saving grace they have is that I got TF2 for free, in that I bought the Orange Box primarily for Episode 2 and Portal.

Also
I really didn't like Walking Dead. I liked the characters in it, I liked how the game presented itself, but I hated playing it because of what happens in the storyline. I don't want to put up spoiler tags so I am just going to leave it at that, I don't like what happens in the story.

And while I enjoyed some of my time with Skyrim and acknowledge it is a great game, especially for consoles, the combat is a boat load of garbage and I expected better since Fallout 3 had a better system (Fallout 3 had locational damage, shooting arrows into peoples heads should do more damage than shooting them into peoples torsos)

Play Morrowind then. After you play that, you'll have a new-found love for how fast your character moves across the world in Fallout 3.

Final Fantasy 7, I got hung up with the Aeris thing, Tifa who was with him since Childhood, was there for him through everything, gets rejected and ignored for a character he meets, out of the blue, some how falls in love with in a relatively short time span. Who he promptly discards and then grieves over, possibly killing her in the process, (Corpses don't float).

That and the Materia System just was not to my liking, FF8's Junction system is a close second in level of dislike, FF10's Sphere Grid was neat.
