Im looking for a game with some cool space battles in it for me to play, by space battles I mean whole fleets complete with huge capital ships going at it.
I played Star Wars: Empire at war and really liked the space battles in that game and it's expansion.

Does anyone know of any other games with those kind of space battles?

Hell yes I do. However most of them are older PC games. The space combat sim genre sadly has died out as of late. But here are a few for you to look at:

Descent: Freespace - Space fighter sim, epic story, very fun & in-depth

Freespace 2 - Sequel to the above. Expanded on the storyline and had more of an emphesis on taking down larger capital ships.

Homeworld & Homeworld 2 - Space combat sim/RTS. You build and control a fleet of crafts ranging from fighters to capital ships.

X-wing or TIE Fighter Wars - Space fighter sims. Much older games but were fun as hell for their time.

I don't know of any that have come out recently. Actually if anyone else does can you specify that they are newer games? I'm trying to find a new type of game like this to play myself.

You ever try the old Rouge squadron games? Probably not exactly want you wanted but it's best I got, personally I would love it if they made some new games in this area. The idea really excited me.

There is, of course, Sins of a Solar Empire.
Out of interest how is it? its been sitting unopened on my game pile for an age.
It's alright. My main complaint is that the different races really aren't very unique. This balances the game, but it doesn't make it very exciting to play a different race.

I did have two of them on my Gamecube but I wasn't really a fan since it was pretty much just all fighter combat. Plus the one that had lightsaber and blaster sections was annoying.

Thanks for the suggestions though, im going to check a few of them out now.

So I just tried the Sins of a solar empire demo and I found it really fun. It's pretty close to what I was looking for so I may pick it up at some point.

One question though, I notice that there are 2 games, Rebellion and Trinity(I think). Any advice on which one I should get?

I played Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader on Gamecube and it was brilliant. Balls-hard, though.
Then there's the space battle level in Halo: Reach which is surprisingly good fun.

Get Trinity. It comes with the base game, and the entrenchment and diplomacy expansions. Also, if you ever get bored of the vanilla ships, you can always download Sins of a Galactic Empire, the star wars mod.

Trinity is Sins Vanilla, Sins Entrenchment and Sins Diplomacy all in one.
Rebellion is an as-of-yet unreleased (I believe) standalone expansion for Sins. Don't know if it has what Diplomacy and Entrenchment have, but I'll have to look it up.

Entrenchment adds Starbases to the game, as well as minefields, anti-structure torpedo cruisers and extra tech for all defences. Diplomacy adds in diplomatic cruisers, which have abilities that let your race gain an advantage by some means or other, without actually having ANY weapons (Correct me if I'm wrong, haven't used them in a while, but diplomacy cruisers have 0 weapons at all, unlike colony and scout that have weak ones), as well as a new relationships system for the diplomacy page, and the ability to put a pirate bounty on an enemy planet to cause a raider force to attack them there and then (One time, did 20K on some guys planet... Lets just say it made normal pirate raids look like a wedding with one attendee).
Rebellion is set to add in a new capital ship, as well as a unique Titan for each race. Races also split into factions, with rebels and loyalists from each faction each acting as independent races with some different ships, techs and other stuff. In addition, corvettes are being added as a apparently mobile frigate like ship [Or something like that]. It also has a new graphics engine.

There is a Beta out for sins Rebellion now, but not the real thing I think (Having just checked), so if you want instant Sins, go with Trinity. Rebellion doesn't seem to be too far off though, and looks epic, so IDK really. Eh, get both.

Try Starfarer: It's about space battles with fleets from small to huge. You also get to shoot yourself instead of just watching. Beats RTS any day in my opinion.

Homeworld series is all about epic space battles, in an RTS style.

There's Freelancer, a fairly open rpg with fun space dogfights, some getting quite massive, a game I really liked back in the day (or it's predecessor StarLancer, focused only on the dogfights. Fights are very difficult if you don't have a joystick, but very rewarding and fun if you do)

There's Sol Exodus, trying to do a similar thing as StarLancer, not a bad game, modern control scheme.

There's Space Pirates And Zombies, an indie open rpg-ish/rts-ish game, you might like it, personally I found it kinda boring

And, of course you can't get more epic, massive, whatever than EVE Online. That is kinda the ultimate space experience if you're willing to sink the time in an MMO. It's also kinda the only MMO out there that has no resemblance to WoW, everything is player-run, you can get to own corporations with thousands of people, the game world is... insanely huge, probably well over a thousand systems by now (each with it's own planets, stations, asteroid belts, etc) and you can pilot a ship a few meters long to a Titan class a few Kilometers long. Did I mention the space battles with thousands of players at a time?

What's best is that there are no different realms, or server clusters. Everybody is playing on the same realm at the same time. You can get 50.000 players online at the same time in the same game world.

Gratuitous Space Battles - It's sort of a RTS that's focused solely on things blowing up

Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity - FANTASTIC game, very fun.

Galactic Civilizations 2: Endless Universe - The best 4X game out there.

Homeworld 2 - Great game from a great series.

Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption - Cool RTS
