I hate fighting games, but the Smash Bros series has always been a favourite of mine.

And I usually love RPG's, but I'm not a fan of Fable.

I generally avoid strategy games, especially real-time strategy, but the campaign (I hated the multiplayer) of Starcraft 2 was actually really good.

On the flipside, I like a lot of JRPGs that I've played, but Final Fantasy 7 just rubbed me up the wrong way. It wasn't the graphics or the translation; it was the confusing fixed camera that ruined the game. The fanboys might have had something to do with it as well.

Blaz Blue: Continuum Shift, I seriously can't stand 2D fighters but this one really appealed to me, probably because of the awesome anime style graphics that didn't just fall into cell-shaded once they realised how hard it was... as most anime-styled games are tending to do now.

CoD: Black Ops, just... why? You could replace every piece of background music with the Team America theme, and it would have the same effect (which is saying something for a CoD game), the multiplayer was less balanced than any I've played (including MW2), and the story line looks like Treyarch peeked at the desks of Infinity Ward and Ubi Montreal, saw what they were planning and shat themselves as the realised that the WW2 recycle machine won't work this time around, and so crafted a bastard child of MW and AC, slapped a pair of aviators, shouted "the Russians are bad guys!" and put it on the shelf knowing that the ignorant masses (myself included, and I believe I've grown wiser after this) will buy it since they've proclaimed it to be good.[/end rant]

I hate platforming in video games, but love the free running style platforming in Assassin's Creed.

I love open world games, but get bored stupid playing any Grand Theft Auto game.

I love Dwarf Fortress, but I generally despise overly complex games.
And I thought the last two Fables are sh*te, but I love most action RPGs.

I enjoy Disgaea despite it being a STRATEGY RPG game, and I dislike all of Xenosaga (the story and development mostly) despite it being a deep, integrated sci-fi RPG.
