Descent: Freespace 1 and 2.
Apparently Freespace 2 had 26,983 copies sold while it was at standard box price. It's now on GOG and has gained an extensive modding community, so while the original sales figures are depressing, I have no reason to be sad about it, so I'm not! :D

For me it's Rock Band 3. I was a huge rock band fanatic at the time it came out, and Rock Band 3 raised the bar in a lot of ways, including the addition of Pro instruments and keyboard and vocal harmonies. It was not nearly successful enough, and that as the beginning of the end for the rock band franchise. they continued to release DLc for another year and a half or so after launch but the number and quality gradually dried up and they announced that there'd be no more weekly DLC anymore and no plans for a sequel.

God damn it Activision, why did you have to destroy the music game genre with your countless Guitar Hero sequels milking the market completely dry...
That's a thing I can't understand.

But if they made a game now don't you think it would be a sucess? It's been a few years, I think everyone misses a game like that no?
The big problem with reviving the franchise now is that, with the arrival of next gen consoles, I highly doubt that people's DLC would carry over to the next console. And with Rock Band one of the main selling features for me and many others was that your library was completely unified. If you owned Rock Band 3, you could import all of the songs from Rock Band 1, Rock Band 2, Lego Rock Band, Green Day: Rock Band, and ACDC:Live Track Pack as well as ALL DLC that was ever released from Rock Band 1 until the last song released for Rock Band 3. Only a very small number of songs did not import (Beatles: Rock Band, and a few songs from Rock Band 1 and 2) so it was conceivable to own over 3,000 songs on Rock Band and play them all without needing to swap disks or anything. Personally, I had nearly 800 songs in my library that I have collected over the years. If a new Rock Band came out but didnt let you import your songs to the next gen consoles, I dont know if I'd want to buy it and go back to a library of only 50-80 songs again.

That and the fact that the instruments are expensive as hell and we're still kind of in a bad economic period for a lot of people so a lot of people will probably not be able to buy into it again.

Phantom Dust, was a really fun game with really interesting ideas behind it, but the servers got really empty really fast.

I know this might sound bad to some, but F3AR aka FEAR 3. Yes the campaign was an absolute slap in the face to FEAR fans but the multiplayer stuff was really fun and it was such a waste that almost no one played it.

Keeping with the Clover theme, God Hand. It's an amazingly tight beat-em-up that way too many players and reviewers put down before it could click.

That moment when you suddenly "get it" is amazing, I was never able to replicate that feeling until Dark Souls.
Pretty much everything Clover/Platinum. And as others have mentioned, Valkyria Chronicles. Sega, why are you so mismanaged?

I wish Yakuza series sold well in Western World. That Feudal Japan Yakuza game looks interesting, but I worry they're not going to localize it.

Since other games I've liked have already been listed I'll go with "Blur".
It was Mario Kart with real life cars (although they're real cars they have arcade style handling), a great licensed soundtrack and power-ups/attacks that are actually balanced and not a load of shit that could send you from 1st to 5th with a single fucking blue shell of bullshit (you could recover from a power-up easily though they will still hinder you and need to be used effectively, though they're almost all remakes of the basic ones from Mario Kart since that is the standard form for this kind of "battle" racing game) and it was all presented in glorious seizure-o-vision (its meant to have a "rave"-like atmosphere and it pulls it off admirably). This is the game that everyone should be pulling out when their drunken friends are around.

Basically it's everything Mario Kart wishes it could be.

Too bad it was one of the biggest bombs of this generation (Its opening weeks sales were only 31,000) and the studio that made it got shut down (damn you Activision, at least you're still supporting the servers though)

I know Sleeping Dogs did well enough, apparently, to warrant a sequel, so I guess I can't say that anymore.

I'll go with Vanquish. Fun little game. Highly recommend it if you like action titles in the vein of Bayonetta or DMC.
Say what? We're getting a Sleeping Dogs sequel?
God damn, why am I not getting notifications on replies anymore.. I gotta look into this.

And yeah--it's pretty amazing. Came as quite a shock. Looking forward to kicking more ass as Wei Shen! If only I could get that Vanquish sequel...

Too Human.

I thought the game was great. My favorite Xbox 360 game in fact....and the only reason after all these years I am happy I actually bought a 360 (every single other game I have liked on the system I could have played on my PC or PS3).

It sold horribly...and.....had bad reviews, but I loved it. Loved the Norse/Sci Fi theme...loved the diablo II meets FPS action combat system. I still toss it in my Xbox360 every so often (every time I ever actually hook the system up..which is probably once a year).

Everyone was down on the game.....and of course now it's been recalled etc...so it's so dead....it was already dead, undead at least...then killed again...and finally cremated basically.

But I love the game.

The Darkness 2 and Alan Wake. I thought Alan Wake was great, and was somewhat disappointed when it was revelaed it wasn't open world. I really wanted to explore Bright Falls during the day time. And while I wasn't a fan of The Darkness 2 looking like a comic book (Yes, it's based on comics, but the first game looked fucking glorious. 2 looked...not as good because it went all comicy.), I loved everything else about it, and was stunned with the cliffhanger ending. And since it didn't sell very well, I'm in high expectations that there will not be a third...

I know it had its fair share of bugs and glitches but I wish Alpha Protocol would have sold more. It has its problems but it is a great game I think.

Metal Arms?

OT: Well there's Valkyria Chronicles. If SEGA actually TRIED advertising their non-Sonic IPS,, maybe this one could have sold more.

Oh. And Metal Arms. Shame on all of you for not buying Metal Arms.
It's a very niche game though, especially (NA) where I live. Turn-based tactical squad game with anime themes and style.

Game I wish did better was Startopia, personal favorite as a kid. It's on GoG yay! I have to agree with the Alan Wake(ers) really enjoyed the atmosphere in that game.

The Saboteur. Holy fuck I love that game. It's the best bits of GTA and Assassin's Creed mixed together with loads of stuff to do.
My first playthough took me 55 hours to complete. I did this in the space of about 2 weeks. I love this game.

YES! A thread where nobody has posted what I want to say!

Ahem, two games that I really wish sold better are Vexx and Voodoo Vince, two 3D platformers released very early on in the original Xbox's life. I love both of these games and wish they did better for what they were, Vexx being a cool Super Mario 64 style collection focused platformer and Voodoo Vince for it's cool setting and funny story; but I also wish that these games had done better for the sake of 3D platformers. Games like these never really took off during the 6th console generation and now we pretty much don't have them anymore which I think is a shame. What's worse is that nobody seems to care, I can't be the only one who wants 3D platformers to make a comeback can I?

Me: Oh God, here come the psychonauts posts. That's probably going to be the first thing on here. After all, the fanboys won't shut up about it.

*Reads*

Wait, am-am I going to have to be that fanboy... really? No one beat me to it? Okay... Psychonauts.

It would also be nice to see a console sequel to Valkyria Chronicles.
We're all still resentful over the pencil-scars between our Spock-fingers... makes us less than charitable about sales.

As for me, I wish Action 52 and ET had sold better... because I'm just that guy who likes to watch the world burn.

I have no serious answer here... I mostly wish that certain games hadn't sold well.

Rayman Origins. It looked good, sounded good, was well designed, colourful and was genuinely charming. Just a shame that nobody bought it until much later on.

Darksiders 2 if I want to be perfectly honest is a title that pops in my mind why it hasn't sold so well.

I really enjoyed the setting and the "adult Zelda+ Prince of Persia" hybrid and I was looking forward to the third one until THQ went backrupt which kinda saddened me. I don't think the third game will be made.
I think the Diablo loot system detracted from an otherwise fantastic game, and I want my Four Horseman Adventures already dammit. I've been waiting for that since Darksiders 1.
