"Of course I'll go as well."

There was no question of whether or not Ellondra would accept the task; it was her duty to accept, regardless of consequence. The ship they required was in port at Wesburg... While there, she could stop at her home and retrieve supplies, check on her father's health. To the station house, as well, to hear news of the Rift in detail. No, she didn't have to deliberate over her course of action from here.

But this parchment...

The Sergeant looked over the others, frowning. She'd not really given thought to a reward; the act of her service ought be reward enough for a Guard. So, she'd have to give it thought...

"Greetings, milord!" Warees said aloud, grinning to himself. It had been awhile since he had heard from the king, and even longer since he heard from him directly rather through representatives, getting to see him again in person was a welcome surprise. Surprisingly, he spoke in a rather jolly tone, despite his normal resentment for figures of authority.

"It has been so long since I've speakin' to ya'! I was beginnin' to think I'd never see ya' again!"

He chuckled, and then continued with what he had to say.

"I assume you be wantin' me to escort your little band of misfits around, eh?"

The degree to which Warees lacked any sort of reverence or respect for the King nearly struck Ellondra dead.

"Thank you, milord. And I will go as well."

Landon smiled at the king and accepted his parchment. His servitude to the king was reward enough for him. And he'd have to talk to Vik'nar about his source that had found out about the ones that had killed his father all those years ago after they were done here.

King Herald's eyes went wide as he learned of Skaar's true identity as well.
"A Half-Bound? In my halls?!"
The King shot up from his throne and grabbed his sheathe.
"However. You do not look like the others we encountered.... you don't look... bloodcrazed"

The King's hand went numb as he slowly retracted from his sheathe and down to his side again.
"And you accompanied these people? Captain, if this is true and that this Half-Bound has served you, I will place him under your custidy and your personal responsibility. However, if you deny this, I fear I must have him executed.... it is the only way"

King Herald's eyes were saddened by the fact he might have to execute such a fine estimate, but the people and the other political nobles would have his head if he did not obay his own laws.

What about the OTHER half-bound? Why isn't he getting a freak-out reaction? D:

It could be because he looks like a homeless guy and you look like a Half-Bound.

"My lord" said Ra'ive as he stepped from the rear of the group into the kings sight once more.

"I too have my quarels with this... Thing but he has proved useful on our journey and I think we may have further use for him yet. I do not wish to second guess you or Ellondra but I think we should keep him with us, at least until we are finished with our task" Once Ra'ive was finished he re-took his position at the back of the group off in the shadows. It was true that Skaar had helped them on their quest and despite his still seething dislike of the creature, he thought the group would be better off with it accompanying them.

Evela sat there infront of Landon. After he saw the Kings reaction, he thought against showing himself. 'But im not actually a half bound', He thought to himself, 'I might not get attacked since I'm not one of them.'

Evela decided to take the risk, he would not let himself die here, even if it was called for his execution, he could take some of the earth out of his chains and break them easily. He had many options for escape, but he wanted to see if he would be accepted first.

He cleared his throat and in a hushed tone, being barely audible, he says "Um... King Herald... Can... Can I talk to you for a bit?"

King Herald ponders in his thoughts for a moment, and then decides.

"If this is your joint decision, this Half-Bound will here-by be forced into your supervisation, or be executed. That is the best I can possibly do, I am sorry"

King Herald then looks at Evela with wavering eyes, trying to see through his veil of mistery.
"Hmm, you are religous are you not? A monk, perhaps?... alas, what do you wish to speak to me about?"

"Um..." Even though Evela had practised his speech to the King for almost the entire trip, he instantley forgot it the second he actually needed to talk to him.

"I would like permission... For you... To... Um... Legalise Magic?" The ending of his sentence came out in a little squeek, being barely audible again. He had no idea how the king was going to react, he hoped he would still have his life.

King Herald's eyes shot up and they darted between Skaar, Ellondra and Evela.

"Magic? Do you mean the magic that has had it's way with people's minds for hundreds of centuries? The very same essence that allows evil to draw breath? To make Tai Ogul's most favoured weapon, not only allowed, but available by my very own laws?"

The King's face went red with anger as he tried his best to cool his nerves.
"This, Half-Bound and you" He began again, motioning to Skaar and then to Evela.
"... have indeed proven yourself.... worthy" The word shivered his spine as he thought of magic use.
"You prove yourself to me by behaving, and you think I will steep down and bend my laws, so that Half-Bounds such as yourself may walk the town squares and haunt the minds of people, I need to think about their safety, about their very lives!"

King Herald then sat down into his throne, rubbing his forehead.
"Forgive me child. But I cannot break the ancient laws merely because you ask me to. Half-Bounds are simply too dangerous to let walk amongst people"

The King looked toward Skaar.
"You are an, in any case, stable and religous. But... bloodcrazed and evil, witty Half-Bounds already stalk the deepest and darkest places of Calemdar. I do not want them to extend their territory onto my soil, onto my towns and onto my people's lands... I cannot"

"I am not a Half bound though!" Evela yelled. He was sick of being classified as one of them. "I'm an ancient, I was around at the time of your great grandfather. I have sepnt my life focusing on helping people. I've never killed anyone. And you say im a menace?!"

Evela knew he should stop, but something inside of him told him to press on. "Magic can help people! I can heal any disease, I can protect anything, I can capture anyone! Why would you not help your citizens?!"

"They shall not, my liege. I hold no illusions; My kind are dangerous. Too dangerous to be allowed to live. This, I understand all too well... but I am not like them, M'lord. Where they have succumbed, I have preserved. Where they gave in to the darkness, I have beaten it back. I do not ask that you allow all Half-Bounds free passage within your lands; no, no. Only that you give me the chance to prove myself in your eyes; that is all I ask, my king." He ignored the crackpot spouting of the creature next to him; the blasphemy coming out of it's mouth was just that, pure and simple.

"Better to keep Skaar in our sights, Majesty, than to send him back to his own devices. A perspective that, if it being within my place to say so, you shared when you lifted the bans against the Drow." Ellondra paused, then added: "...I don't know about the other one, though."

Vik'nar thought her logic was sound. Better to direct that destructive force than to let it roam around free to it's own compulsions. Although the King seemed to have it in mind to execute him should she not have taken responsibility for him. It would have proved an interesting situation, would Skaar have submitted to his own execution by law or would he have resisted breaking his own convictions?

It seemed everyone was volunteering in their own way, though the monk was still pleading his case, as he requested to be let to do. Vik'nar was happy to see Ellondra was agreeing to the journey, not that there was much doubt that she wouldn't see her duty in it. He had wanted to attempt to speak with her again if the chance presented itself.

He stood silently collecting his thoughts on her, the rest of the group, their new mission and everything he'd need to quickly finish or set in place before leaving town again.

King Herald looked more closely at Evela, before remembering what had spiked his interest.

"An Ancient? You were thought to be extinct! But... but... there are only lore and stories, I have seen no evidence of there ever being Ancients"

The King sighed, coming to a conclusion.
"All I know, is that you posess magical powers, and you would be executed without regard nevertheless of your culture or race"

King Herald then waved his hand toward the door.
"Very well then. You shall travel with this group, and aid it any way possible... even with your life. Do you understand?"

He didn't wait for a reply, and took the staff that rested in an upward position next to his throne, and tapped it into the ground.

The giant doors opened as the sound clattered around the halls and the guards stood there ready to escort them off the premises.

"Leave now, rest here in Herelden and talk to my cleric in his office about your wishes. In your parchments are also the fees you could have sustained in your quest. The ship will be waiting for you in Wesburg. Expecting you"

The King then stood up from his throne and walked away to his chambers.

Evela called out the king before he left, "Thank you! I am sorry for my outburst!".

He turns towards Landon, smiles at him and says, "Well... That went better than expected"

Ra'ive overhearing Evela's comment stiffled a laugh.

"Yes, you stood there and ranted like a madman at the king. Nice one, perhaps you'd like to insult some more powerful nobles before we leave the city?" he said pointedly, he was getting slightly iritable due to the fact he hadn't been rocked since Swaere and he was starting to feel the withdrawal affects.

Trying to ignore the woozy feeling he was begining to get, he sidled up to Ellondra.

"So I guess we shall set off in the morning? If thats the case you can meet me on the outskirts of town, I wont be staying in the city"

"Hey. Im still alive. It went better than I had expected." Evela remarked back at Ra'ive.

"And where am I going to sleep. Am I going to at all?" He raises his hands again, shaking them for emphasis, they were still in chains, he hadnt' broken them yet.
