The entirety of "Tiny Vessels" by Death Cab for Cutie. The first time I listened to the song, I was reluctantly in a relationship that just wasn't working out. I didn't care about her at all, but I couldn't let her know that, I just couldn't break it off. It was one of the most difficult times of my life. This didn't make it any easier.

This is the moment that you know
That you told her that you loved her but you don't.
You touch her skin and then you think
That she is beautiful but she don't mean a thing to me.
Yeah, she is beautiful but she don't mean a thing to me.

I spent two weeks in Silverlake
The California sun cascading down my face
There was a girl with light brown streaks
And she was beautiful but she didn't mean a thing to me.
Yeah she was beautiful but she didn't mean a thing to me.

Wanted to believe in all the words that i was speaking
As we moved together in the dark
And all the friends that i was telling
And all the playful misspellings
And every bite i gave you left a mark

Tiny vessels oozed into your neck
And formed the bruises
That you said you didn't want to fade
But they did and so did i that day

All i see are dark grey clouds
In the distance moving closer with every hour
So when you ask "was something wrong?"
That i think "you're damn right there is but we can't talk about it now.
No, we can't talk about it now."

So one last touch and then you'll go
And we'll pretend that it meant something so much more
But it was vile, and it was cheap
And you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me
Yeah you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me
I have cried listening to that because I know it's true for me but I can't bring myself to do anything about it

Your answer is in there
Just stare down the barrel
Your sincerest apologies won't write you out of this one.
Tonight you'll find the right.
In the pull of the trigger, now bite.
Oh young fools, don't cry...
Anymore

A hero of war, is that what you see?
Just bmedals and scars, so damn proud of me
and i brought home that flag,
now it gathers dust
but its a flag that i love
the only flag i trust

Hero of War by Rise Against

It really sums up the fact that war is a meaningless tool of destruction.
I feel greatly sorry for all who have lost loved ones to it

"Split your lungs with blood and thunder
When you see the white whale
Break your backs and crack your oars men
If you wish to prevail

This ivory leg is what propels me
Harpoons thrust in the sky
Aim directly for his crooked brow
And look him straight in the eye"

I think the entire song is a punch to the spleen, but that verse sums it up in a neat little package...Mastodon kicks balls...

and since just reading the lyrics isn't enough to get the full effect, here's the song:

The lyrics to a really good fandub version of Ash like Snow by the Brilliant Green.

The sky
Is dyed with crimson red
That comes out of the darkness
Of what needs to be said
The stars we used to know
No longer glow
Obscured by all the ash that falls like snow

I watched it all
Through the window of my grief
I never dreamed
That I would feel so cold
There...I come for you

All of my hopes are in a shroud of desolation
Dreams I that once had have all been crushed
Now that everything's changed, I have been holding on so desperately
To the precious things
That I cannot protect
'Cause I always break them...

My heart
Is played just like harp
By sinful hands of darkness
With nails oh so sharp
Your voice is like a drug
That makes me numb
It leaves me with no senses,
Deaf and dumb

No matter how we try to win this war
It never ends!
And why must it be me
Who does the fighting?

Even if all the light around us is extinguished
Even if the Earth is turned to dust
I won't ever forget
That tiny wish that burns eternally
It will guide us to a better world, somewhere

there I come for you yeah
Ash Like Snow
is falling down from your sky
Ash Like Snow
Ash like Snow
Ash like snow
Let me hear...
why I have to fight?

And now all of my hopes are in a shroud of desolation
Dreams I that once had have all been crushed
In exchange for the glory that can overcome the choking dark
I have given up the strength I used to protect what I love
(It's falling from your sky)
I don't know what to do...
(Baby I come for you)

Every time that I'm cut by broken shards of what was once a dream
I will reach into the darkness of my heart,
and I will try to find the strength to carry on!
'Cause I've made it this far...

There's just something really poetic about the first few lines.

"'No' is the word you understand
'No' is the word you fear
'No' is the word you comprehend
So 'no' is the word you'll hear
I never really needed
I never really cared
I never really trusted
No one was fucking there
Everyone can see
Everyone, but me"

"No, heaven's not a place that you go when you die
It's that moment in life when you touch her and you feel alive.. so live for the moment
And take this advice, live by every word: love's completely real
So forget everything that you have heard and live for the moment now

My favorite band is Frightened Rabbit. One of their songs "Good arms vs bad arms" I love and can agree with the line "I might not want you back, but i want to kill him." I've had quite a few relationships like that. I'm over it now though but I do still love that line.

The last line to At the Bottom of Everything by Bright Eyes.
"I'm happy just because
I've found out I am really no-one."
It's a sad song, but that last line makes me incredibly happy.

"Holding the hand that holds me down.
I forgive you
Forget you
The end"

Breaking Benjamin - Without you

Also, every lyric in this song. No exceptions.

"The record shows, I took the blows, and did it my way!"

- My Way, Frank Sinatra. He delivers it so... powerfully, and then that instrumental afterwards. Gives me shivers.

Anyway, I mention that because I'm listening to it right now. But I also have this.

"I need to believe. But I still want more, with the cuts and the bruises. Don't close the door, on what you adore"

- Glorious, MUSE. Not sure why this hits me so hard but Goddamn it it does. I love Glorious so damn much.

I'm linking it because not enough people have heard this song.

Starting at 2:30 - "I've got wild staring eyes ... and I've got a strong urge to fly!
... But I've got nowhere to fly to ... fly to ... [sub]fly to ... fly to ...[/sub]"

I know that feeling quite well.

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd

Pure diamonds.

If you want me to be literal there was a line from a song I wrote when I was about 15: "Your passion hit me in the heart like a baseball bat" (lame I know, what do you expect though from a teenager?)
