the only reasons Call centers from india think we're racist is that we hate telemarketing, I'm yet to find someone that doesn't, even the two guys that I know that worked in that industry don't like it.

Seriosly you try being polite to someone who calls in the middle of dinner has bad lag on the call, talks with an acsent so think you can bearly understand them, not that you can hear them very well since they speak so quietly.

So, they're saying that all Australians are racist and terrible?

Anyone else see a flawed argument here?

Why are white people the only racist people on earth? Im pretty sick of it.

White Australians are actually quite accepting.

Its a stereotype thats believed, and so any altercation or alleged altercation someone of another culture has with a white person is branded as a racial altercation.

I live in the heart of Western Sydney and White people are the tokens of groups cause they get along with everybody.

No one ever mentions when a lebo is racist to an asian or vice versa, its disgusting.

Everyone just needs to chill and stop pointing the finger.

Here is a helpful map of world drinking.

As far as racism goes, yes I know some racists, some people I know generally dislike arabic people, not because they are arabic but because they are the group responsible for the majority of crime in the area they live.

As to the point about being technologically backwards, I am using a computer right now (obviously), I have a flat screen TV, an iPhone, and a X-box 360.
If I am technologically backwards because I don't have the latest consumer gadgets, thats fine by me
I didn't know that. Good find.

As an Australian I do take some offense to the article, as I am nearly of legal drinking age and have consumed 1 beer in my lifetime. I know I am not the social norm but I have met some very racist Australians and a large amount of non-racist Australians. I will admit that sometimes I do have trouble understanding what is being said on the other end of the telephone line when it is coming from a call center. I will also admit that I live on the Coast of New South Wales where there is not a large population of people who aren't white anglo-saxons. As for Australia being technologically backward, I hardly think the scramjet engine is a step backwards, after all this country has allegedly invented: blast glass, polymer bank notes, the technology behind the xerox copy system, the electronic pacemaker, the bionic ear, Spray-on-skin, the humidicrib and the wifi system I am using to post this comment. I personally think racist is a little harsh but technologically backwards is a clear error.

First of all, this story is stupid. The sunday fail is quoting a mother jones story, or more acurately, a writer for mother jones, who is quoting, some random trainer he met in india.

That's like me going down to the corner pub here and asking someone their opinion of Indians and then stating that "this is what they teach hospitality staff in Australia!!"

All that aside, Australia is a country that is extremely large geographically, and very small population-wise. If you live outside of a major city like Sydney, Melbourne, or even god forbid, Brisbane (I live here... at least the weather is nice), you might as well be re-enacting that scene from deliverance with the barefooted kid on the front porch playing the banjo.

I am not kidding.

Aside from all that, I think it's a pretty silly topic. In my experience people love the piss everywhere, Australia has a big drinking culture, but so does alot of other places, and while people are certainly racist here as much as they are anywhere else, I find that they are just more unsophisticated about it in general (more likely to say things without thinking about it).

Also, the reporting of this story is pretty typical of the Sunday Fail. They love to print jingoistic and xenophobic stories to drive paper sales amongst the blue hairs, because lord knows, no one under the age of 35 buys papers in this country anymore.

Are you sure they didn't say "America" instead of "Austrailia"? Because I could swear that the only nation that can be labled as a nation of racist drunks was America.
I can see us being labeled as a nation of drunks but as for racism... I dont know, we sure yell about it allot but probably america is one of the least racist nations around since we are also one of the most multi-ethnic nations, our racism is just more visible since... well I guess we try to be not racist for the most part

I know they aren't, read my entire post...

No those things don't happen in Australia, which is why these accusations of widespread racism anger me

But dont boil it down to racism, thats the point im making.

Even if it was racism, dont let the minority get to you.

Almost damn sure someone was talking about Americans, not Aussies. I'll be honest, never really met an Australian and my only exposure to the culture is Crocodile Dundee and the Fosters Beer commercials. In this case I have no real opinion based that I don't have enough info. But if what was said in OP, than that's a little screwed up. And EVERYONE is a little bit racist.

As a non Australian I really did think that the treatment and attitude towards Aboriginal people was awful when I came here.

HOWEVER, I don't think people outside Australia truly understand what the situation is like.

There are some Aboriginal people who are hard working, honest, sober, decent citizens who try to maintain their cultural ties while being part of modern Australia. I have a friend who is like this.

However, by their own admission, these are the exceptions in many areas.

Aboriginal culture has, in many areas, transformed into an ugly thing. Most live off benefits and in government funded accommodation without ever trying to improve their lot. Their children are taught, by their own elders, that crime and drunkenness are acceptable, that "Whitey" owes them, the girls encouraged to get pregnant as soon as possible for more benefit money. Their communities flout or outright refuse the rule of Australian law while demanding funding and other benefits.

Abuses of all types are common, with authorities rarely being able to act unless one of the victims manages to get themselves out of that society. Because, regardless of what terrible wrong has been done, these communities will shut outsiders out and blame the white man for everything.

There is zero encouragement from most of their community for young people to get out and improve their lot in life. If anything, the "take everything you can as early as you can" attitude discourages it. There is also a culture which means that Aboriginals feel that every person they are related too MUST help them out.. so in the unlikely event that a young aboriginal manages to improve their situation, get a job, a better home, etc.. they will randomly find drunken, drug addicted, idiots turning up on their doorstep at all hours of the day and night.

Overall.. Australia is racist towards Aboriginals because.. day in, day out, and the nights between that many many of them have no desire in the world to be functioning members of society.
