So, like many not-manly men, I'm cursed with the inability to get past the taste of beer. I've never made it past half a bottle on my own. I'm normally able to take a good first drink, but after that the taste limits me to just sips at a time. Between me and friends, we normally just have beer.
Any suggestion on how to get past the taste, or condition myself to like.

I have the same problem (if you want to call it that) to an extent; I also do not like the taste of beer. In fact, I really really dislike it.

I like red wine quite a bit though. Maybe you could try drinking something else if you have the desire to drink with friends? Otherwise, I guess all I could say is to "keep at it". Hopefully you'll acquire the taste for it over time (most alcohol does seem to be an acquired taste).

I hate beer, but I love bourbon. You may want to try something with a better flavor, not necessarily something stronger, but maybe like a Mike's Hard Lemonade or something along those lines. Something tasty.

If you don't like the taste of beer... don't drink it?

I fail to see a problem here, just drink something you do like. Why would you want to "condition" yourself into liking beer?

Try a different type of beer. There are many that taste different. I hate beer but I can drink one of a certain variety.

Why do you want to like it though?

Or, possibly, stop drinking it until you're old enough. According to your profile, you're only sixteen. Besides, at that age I seriously doubt you can get your hands on any kind of good beer, and are forced to make do with shite that tastes like it's already been drunk once. There is a world of difference between good and bad beers.

If you're not of age then wait 'til you are. Try different beers. Also, if you still want the buzz without the taste of beer, try hard ciders.

Couple of options.
1. Eat salty food with your beer.
2. Work bloody hard all day, try beer. It actually tastes better.
3. Try different "better" beer. Obviously this is subjective, plenty of cheap beers are tasty and some of the stronger stuff tastes good while some tastes bad. (I remember when Corona was cheap as chips and not sold in pubs/bars, it still tasted good before it was expensive)
4. Don't bother with beer. I didn't really enjoy it until I was about 19. I use to drink stacks of Vodka and Rum but now I prefer Beer or Scotch, age seems to be a factor in alcoholic tastes with my friends too so maybe that could be a factor for you?

to be honest, the taste grows on you, and its really good when the beer is cold, also since jelly pointed that you are sixteen (if you didnt lie in your profile), you guys are probably buying the cheapest beer, so no big surprise there, there is a world of a difference in taste

Just drink it, I guess. I used to have that problem, then I just began drinking it whenever I could, different kinds, forcing it past my tongue. Now I actually enjoy it.

Go for dark beers. They are far better and worth the extra cost! Drink crappy beers when you're supposed to when everyone feels cheap, and drink good beer to prove that there is deliciousness in the world. And drink when you turn 21 since you're vastly underage

For some reason when I read the title I thought of drinking problems as seen in Airplane!

OT: I have the same problem, can't stand the taste. All I can say is just drink it, though if you're just drinking for the sake of getting drunk, you're probably better off just not drinking.

You don't have to drink beer. I personally think beer tastes disgusting. But there are other liquors out there that taste different, and maybe one will taste better to you. Experiment. Try different beers (as others have suggested), and try other liquors as well, or mixed drinks. Personally, the only drink I can stomach without wanting to vomit is a Sloe Gin Sour, and I generally only have one or two before calling it a night, because more than that and I wake up with the sensation that my cat slept in my mouth- furry tongue (yuck!).

Just remember that one beer is the equivalent alcohol as one mixed drink, one glass of wine or one shot. So you don't have to like or drink beer to go out drinking with friends. Just keep it to when you actually can drink legally. Sixteen is too young.

Dude thats like saying because I dont like grape soda I wont like any other pop. On top of the fact there are literally thousands of other tasting beers you could always try other forms of alcohol. I personally like rum. Mmmm rummmmmm.

EDIT: Also try Mikes hard lemonade. Trust me.

My advice if you are keen and really want to like beer rather than going for something else is to try some variety. Different brands have different tastes. For example (Australian here) I can not drink XXXX, so horrible (like making love in a canoe some might say) but I quite like Tooheys Extra Dry Platinums. There is a great variety between how bitter and how strong the flavour is. Stella Artois for example has a slightly unusual flavour, Guiness and Stouts are a much more different experience. So yeah, go for some variety, don't try to choke down what you don't like.

This. You obviously don't do it for the taste, so you either do it because it makes you feel good (including thinking it's fun), your friends are doing it, or you think it makes you look cool. I don't mean to get all preachy, but it's not worth it.

Chances are if your new to drinking then you probably aren't used to how strong and bitter some beer can be, try a light or low carb beer first, if you still don't like any of those, then go for something sweeter, like Bourbon or Rum, if you mix them with a soft drink like Coke they become even sweeter than that.. good starters for younger drinkers.. not that I condone underage drinking, but hey, we all did it, so I can hardly take the high ground.
