Let them do whatever they want. I try to keep away from the bad things. It's my choice. If you want to fuck up your life, go ahead. Just don't bring me into it.

I'd like to point out that rants which are either about "How the youth is ruining things" or "how our parents ruined things" are the result of a logical fallacy. I forget which one. There are a LOT of different kinds of fallacies..

Anyway, neither of those two statements are necessarily true and, indeed, most often aren't. That is, on those rare occasions where enough objective evidence is present to draw any sort of conclusion at all. For instance, Mazty - I apologize for singling you out, but your post is right there - relied on Generalization and anecdotal evidence to make his point which, when put together, is an inductive fallacy: the assumption that lots of information translates necessarily into reliable evidence. This obviously isn't so, but in context it's hard to be aware a fallacy is being committed at all, even by the speaker.

It's important to draw a distinction between the subjective trends we're personally viewing based on our particular situations and cultural parameters and through our own individual biases...and the global, scientifically aggregated trends that AREN'T based on those things.

Now, I have kids (15 year old boy and a 16 year old girl) but I think to get around this you should LET them do all this...but guide them through it... not give them a load of crap (that they will ignore), my daughter smokes weed BUT she does it openly... instead of her going out with shady people... that would get her into class A stuff she does it with me.. and some of her close friends(I tell them they can do class C... and SOME class B... but I say that class A is stupid,as it screws them up..and because of the fact that I let them do this, they listen to me... and do not take things too far, they are rapidly turning into smart little sods) So my point is that because of me helping them through it, my daughter has high chances of getting into a high-class collage... and the school are saying good things about both of them, she is expected to get easy A and B GCSE's and my son is working towards them (still another year) I know that they have had the fun they needed in the teenage years, and are doing good in life.

The only problem was one of her friends told her mother... she was so close to calling 999.
BUT... I have a question, do you think what I am doing (although illegal) is bad? please note that I am doing it to help them turn into good people, and not stupid teenage "chavs"
I am a single father that wants good kids, and this worked out.

In the short time I've been a member here, I've noticed alot of ranting on youth. In fact, its a bandwagon that I've somewhat jumped on.
What I'm trying to figure out, as a 25 year old, is why everyone consistently rags on youth for becoming sexually active, experimenting with drugs or alcohol, or just generally being stupid. And moere specifically, why half of the people doing so are in that same age category.
You are definitely right about the youth bandwagon taking too much control of these forums. It just seems nobody has ever read into history of any time period, because it's always been full of "dangerous youths" no matter why. It's just spinning wheels, running through the motions of society. I just hope the people here learn that so we can start talking about more interesting things.

I am in middle school and can testify that, even in what are supposed to be three years of idiocy, teens aren't that bad. Yes, there are tards and the gansta-wannabees are annoying, but people are at least somewhat not-retarded. There are plenty of people who are decent, polite, and respectful, and the drugs, drinking, and sex are in moderation. I wouldn't even consider those vices as long as they are under control, and they are. People think teens are stupid because they are a different generation and the minority of idiots, inevitable in any age group, get the attention from FOX News. It's just a skewed perception, really.

Oh, and media targeted at teens is stupid. What do you expect people to think about them with the popularity of Disney Channel and rap?
