I always thought its because a Woman's chest is considered a Sexual Organ while a man's chest is not(i do know quite a few girls that go nuts over a guys chest though).

My opinion to a tee, basically.

In the general media, a woman's chest is definitely considered taboo due to the sexual connotations it carries, but a man's is not.

Personally, I think it just lets straight women see more than straight men get to see.

Edit: This is not my view. I'm female myself, and I find it hypocritical as hell. It's just my thoughts on the matter.

I find that the only reason people see female breast as 'sex-related' organs is because of some odd event that must have happened several hundred or thousand years ago. I mean it's probably only because of modern ways of seeing things that female breast are so. Honestly I'm pretty sure if you zoom back a few thousand years several people wouldn't really care. This still actually exists in several African tribes from what I know.

The whole thing is easy to understand. It goes with the drive for procreation. A woman with larger breasts is seen as being able to provide more food for a baby. Since, such thoughts of procreation are deeply rooted into thoughts about sex(it is really the reason behind many men liking big breasts)(Same goes for the hips and butt area, for giving birth.) Some guys might not even realize or admit that these are reasons, even though they might not see it that way, it is ingrained into our nature.

Since female breasts are part of this sex and procreation cycle, that is why female nipples are seen as sexual objects and that is why such things only appear on late night television.

This whole topic is pretty much natural commonsense.

I always thought that this was because when people view the whole impressing another person for sex, they view it as the man on offense and the woman on defense. People just need to be real about what it means when a straight guy buys things for a straight girl: imagine a scenario where a man is buying drinks for a girl he doesn't know. Let's be real, there's only one reason this happens. What, you girls out there think that all those men just love buying things for people they don't know out of the goodness of their hearts?

I would be different in that respect too. I'm not the type of person that wants to do things right away, why rush? Though that's most likely because I'm a guy that is just looking for the girl I want to marry. I don't want to use sex as the measure for that, so sleeping around would just degrade my character in my opinion.

Though I have never been to a bar before where looking for a girl was the reason. Of course it is used to get something, if I bought a drink for a girl, all I would be looking for is conversation.

I guess it's just something that's been passed down from generation to generation. If it were men's chests that were - as per social conventions - covered up publicly, whilst women walked about barechested, then that would be the social "norm" and, consequentially, the mirror we would see in the media. It would seem normal to us, simply because it is something that has existed for centuries.

You should be glad the media is trying to preserve the sexiness of boobs. As other have said, if they were visiable all the time they probably wouldn't be very sexy at all. Can you imagine if everyone was naked ALL the time? There wouldn't be any fun left in it.

The laws vary widely from area to area though. Some countries have nearly no restrictions on nudity while some are quite strict. You would probably be surprised just how legal it is to be a topless female in most places. The law can be quite ambigous about it and sometimes you can be net with a "blanket charge" like indecentcy, but I imagine it wouldn't hold up in court. I know from my experiance in both Toronto and Vancouver the local police get memos every summer reminding them that women are legaly allowed to be topless in public, where as in Utah even adult entertainers have to cover their nipples.
