I don't tend to play online for 2 reasons;
1. I'm pretty bad at FPS games anyway
2. I don't like not being able to slap a person when they piss me off whilst playing

I played guild wars for a little while, mainly because I despise the thought of paying a monthly fee for a game (looking at you WoW). Honestly it's not for me. I prefer good storylines/games that you can play with people sat next to you. Too many idiots online, too competitive, getting to the point where it's just not fun anymore.

The only game I've played online for any length of time was counterstrike and that was a LONG time ago. Anytime that people say a game is more focused towards online aspects I immediately lose interest. The only time I could imagine playing an online game now would either be an RTS or guildwars (because honestly it was kind of fun).

Battlefield series, L4D and L4D2. Lately Red Dead Free Roam. CoD Treyarch games are fantastic, MW2 is too unbalanced. and Halo is just rubbish. You can unload an entire clip into someone and they can turn around and 1 shot kill you.

I don't necessarily hate Halo, or Call of Duty, they're pretty alright, functional, and such, I just think they're incredibly overrated compared to other better online multiplayer games like Team Fortress 2, Bad Company 2, and others. Also, at least those games aren't as populated by total douches like Halo and Call of Duty.

Although Call of Duty is better than Halo in terms of gameplay, the community is by far worse, especially with all the glitching done there. Halo simply has annoying 12 year olds, but all they do is throw a ***** fit and leave. An excessively annoying ***** fit, but still ignorable if you wisely use the mute button. In the CoD community however, all of the glitchers just ruin the experience big time, regardless of whether you mute them or not.

Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2 and the odd bit of Team Fortress 2 now and then.

team fortress 2? and I dont hate halo, just the average person who plays it.
Know what I hate? People who stereotype.
There are only two kinds of people I hate:
Those who are intolerant of other peoples' cultures, and the Dutch.

OT: Mostly Bad Company 2, though I'm rethinking that.

Warhawk before DLC content stopped me from getting into a game.
Resistance 1 before DLC and the sequel made getting into a good 1 hit kill CTF game neigh on impossible.
Resistance 2 before i realized Resistance 1 was about a hundred times better. Even the co-op missions. Namely because i could never find a good 1 hit kill CTF game.
Killzone 2. Which amusingly despite having DLC content i can still really easily hop into games and have fun for an hour a two.

As well to note i don't halo the halo series. Just the first game. I never played any of the others except Halo 2 multiplayer with my friends. Which was a load of fun. Then again that was offline with good friends.

I don't care too much for multiplayer unless my friends are playing. The reason I don't like halo is its story, characters, dialogue and it's boring level design. I think the game developers make it for 8 year olds. They put the Mature rating on it because it's like "oh my god this has swearing and blood, that makes it awesome" also the diologue reminds me of when adults talk to three year olds.

I have played GTA IV online a bit, Gears 1 is good, I don't honestly like playing games online. Everybody brags their ass off until they turn blue.

10,00 rounds? That's hardly the case. Sure, it takes more than a pull of the trigger to to kill an enemy, but that's because Halo's a more forgiving and balanced game. If someone gets caught under fire, they usually have the option to run, and avoid a fight that they wouldn't win. If they want to give it a shot, they can stand their ground and finish it. Sure, you can say that they ability to jump complicates gameplay, but so does all of CoD's features and equipment like Claymores, Tactical Insertions, Heartbeat Sensors, and so many other bits and pieces available to the player.

Well I actually do play CoD. And I enjoy it greatly because it is a game I can play with my friends who aren't weird. Not saying that's everybody but most of my friends who are on the creepy side of the spectrum don't play games like CoD or Halo. Maybe I like it more than other people because I am great at it. My two favorite games to play multiplayer are CoD and L4D2 because eventually people get annoying on CoD (Very quickly) I enjoy to slash zombies with intellectuals.

I play tons of Team Fortress 2 with a little Left 4 Dead thrown in from time to time. It's not that I've anything truly against Halo, in fact I've enjoyed the coop in both 1 and 3. Hell, give me a couple friends and I'd even enjoy several rounds of multiplayer. Truth is though, I don't care for CoD or Halo from a design perspective. They just seem so bland and generic to me. Nothing really striking about the game to me.

I'll continue to play all the new single player entries in those series though, but I'll continue to not go online with them.

edit

Also, I can't stand the online communities for either game. I respect that not everyone falls into this generalization, but enough do that it permeates the entire experience.

Team Fortress 2.

I'll start back up with Halo when Reach falls.

Can't play MW2 online since the game case broke the disk. I'd be angry, but honestly I think the game is trying to protect me from itself. So I'm fine. I have better games anyway. Like Team Fortress 2. And the occasional Bad Company 2 game.

As far as online shooters go, S4 is fun.

On the Xbox, I play a lot of RS:Vegas 2 and Unreal Tournament 3.

On Halo, I just can't stand that I have to unload a magazine or two onto someone's body before they die. The first one was alright, but there was no online multi-player.
