A question for Halo haters.

I've heard a lot from people who hate Call of Duty and Halo multiplayer. They don't like the players or game at all. So I just want to ask this question: What do you guys play online? If you can't stand Halo and CoD, what games do you play online? I'm honestly curious.
-Note: I realize that CoD and Halo aren't the only games with online multiplayer, they're just the most popular.

Halo was just boring online. Mostly I play single player games, but if I ever do play online it is/was L4D (until all the stupid server mods took over), CoD4/5, Borderlands, and used to play Black Hawk Down/Joint Operations a ton...

Left4Dead with a good set of teammates, Unreal Tournament 2004, about a half dozen RTSs and I used to play Doom 3 online a fair amount (really bad servers though). I like playing with friends in Gears of War 1 and 2, mostly cause we can set down some ground rules to avoid the multiplayer being horribly broken. Other then that I really like the Battlefield games, they've always been just outstanding, great multiplayer fun.

Oh, and I don't hate Halo or Call of Duty, I just find Halo's combat is boring after awhile and that Call of Duty is SEVERELY overhyped by clueless fanboys (at least the CoDs after the second one).

really the multi its mostly hated cause of the general fanbase i dont like either that much is because of how horrible the story is and the multi is really only so so i mean if cod black ops dont have zombies not getting it more than likely and i will admit that halo 1 had one of my fav weaps the pistol that thing was a a marksman beast

I prefer Team Fortress 2. I don't HATE Halo, it's just not as good compared to things I've played in the past and the obsession over it is obnoxious. And I hate COD only because it's filled with hackers due to a lack of anti cheating measures and is poorly set up (lack of dedicated servers and what not); I know we all love getting lagged out by someones crap connection because of the peer to peer hosting...

Keep in mind that my opinion is based entirely on the PC version, but I have heard of instances where console modders on Xbox live cheat as well.

Side note: playing Halo with a bunch of prepubescent kids screaming obscenities into a mic is also a turn off from the game.

OP: I usually would play an RTS, play a private match with friends in MW2 because that can get really fun actually. And a lot of the time just get away from the computer and play Magic: The Gathering.

Back when I used to play online, I usually played Counter Strike:Source on any of the gungame servers, or HL2 Deathmatch. I miss the sound of a bolt fired from my crossbow hitting someone in the face. Man, the holiday 2006 collection had everything.

The multiplayer is only USUALLY terrible. From time to time, i've had excellent experiences online.

It's just that it doesn't happen nearly as much as it should.

Halo and COD really don't add anything new to the FPS genre for me and their communities are pretty bad. I don't want to play with 12 year olds who can't shut-the-fuck-up. If you're 12 you shouldn't be swearing yet alone talking on the mic because no one wants to hear your high pitched voice.

For the record, I love Halo, and most people I've talked to who hate it have absolutely no real reason to: it would seem that most Halo hate, like JRPG hate, is simply a matter of hating on what's popular in a misguided and stupid attempt to be "cool."

OT: Gears of War 2 is my main multiplayer game, though once I finish Red Dead Redemption's campaign, I'll try the multiplayer... and we'll see. It looks good.

I don't hate Halo or Call Of Duty. It is usually the players that uses the anonymous of the internet to act like jerks are the ones I hate. This is the main reason why I rarely play online except when in a party with friends. When I do play online without friends I just make sure to mute everyone before the game starts.
