Well, I think that rugby is more of a manly sport then American football.
And I come from Iceland, but I still can't stand ESPN! :D

No.

Since one can't make "low content posts" now, I just never really cared for Football or most sport in general. I don't think many people in Australia care about the Super Bowl either...

What's the appeal to Americans with events like this? Just curious.

GRRAAAHAHGHHHGHGHHHHH PACKERS WIN WOOOOOOOO DOOOOOGIES HUMP HUMP LADY BUMP

*ahem*

The "ferigners" who were at our superbowl party had a grand time, despite the fact they didn't understand a single penalty.

Its just a good spectator sport. Its a war between cities, a strategic battle between coaches, and a chance for a whole group of highly specialized athletes to shine. Forward progress and momentum, with chances for snap turnarounds leading to both singular glory and abject defeat.

Also, chilli cheese dip, a lot of beer, and games that will never end with a 0-0 score.

No. Not only do I hate the idea of a sport based on tackling your lights out, but also, people that are professionals in tossing a leather watermelon and breaking ribs get payed more than individuals that save lives like doctors. I could never get over this even in my own country.

So those of you living outside the United States I have a question. Are any of you planning on watching the Super Bowl? Do you care at all? For those not aware the two teams this year are the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

All opinions are welcome just please keep them polite. Sports fans inside the states are encouraged to keep everyone who is not in the know properly informed.

EDIT: I changed the title. Happy now?

I understand that the game enjoys a small amount of popularity in Australia but I'm no fan myself. That said, you will find many a kindred spirit in Aus, just go and watch an AFL Grand Final or State of Origin Final. We get it. :)

Enjoy your match.

I don't care about sports and I care even less about American Football as a Canadian.

I do however like to see the funny ads that come with the Superbowl!

I'm still not exactly sure what Superbowl is. Except it's a sport event with lots of big ads.

Because we Americans put it to a vote, and we all collectively decided that's what we should do.

Sarcasm aside, any average American has little to do with what the sports leagues try to call themselves.

You mean staying up from 01:00 AM to 05:00 to watch men jump around at eachother in armored suits?
No thanks...

Not really, it's not as if it's the world cup or something... it's like asking an American whether he'll be watching the six nations.

Why would ANYBODY watch the super bowl without the commercials? To watch some douchebags play handegg?
why do people watch soccer? to see dives, crying and 3 shots a game? i prefer a sport that takes athletic talent opposed to dramatic talent.
Cause soccer is far more strategically demanding, requires more technique and finesse, and the goals actually feel amazing when your team is scoring because they don't happen that much, which is a good thing.

The reason American's try to make out soccer to be boring is because they are not the best at it, the U.S. tends to enjoy the sports they rock in a lot more, which is why they had to invite a few, also, a country that calls an annual sporting event in which only two countries bother taking part at the "World Series" doesn't get to talk trash about foreign sports by default.

PS: Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world, literally everybody realized it's the best sport except you guys.

I know people who care about the Super Bowl in Australia - but most of us don't. Australians love rugby, and while it's similar to American Football, it's not the same. Plus, most of us don't know the team histories, the state rivalries, the player names or the rules to the game. Also, if you don't have cable, you can't watch it. And if you do have cable, it's hidden away on one of the sports channels, because they know most Australians don't care.

Also, time zone difference - our night is your day.

The only sports I watch are the European and World Soccer(football) cups. I don't give half a crap for the American type of football. (I don't really give half a crap for America either. Go Europe! Go!)
