you could get half the guys here on the $1 a day not to knock up a bird program... you would be paying them till are 45, mostly because they have had a choice.
However, further investigation shows there is a second part to this arrangement, you have to attend a meeting once a week and I gather there will be some serious purity ring or scientology shit going down there before they hand over the $7... also you don't get the cumulative $7 until you finish high school... chances are if a young lady gets a bun in the oven, she won't even get part payment for making it through halfway through GYPED!!

But doesn't this new program developed seem a little off to any one else? Or is it just me?
I feel its insinuating that women are responsible if they get pregnant (which is of course, wrong)[/url]
Wait, women are not responsible if they get pregnant? Unless they're raped or the condom split, since when has getting pregnant become a blameless action? It's just as much the woman's 'fault' as the man's, unless in the aforementioned circumstances. One brings the sperm, one brings the egg.
I agree, I said it feels as though its insinuating that women are solely responsible, which is of course, is wrong
It takes two to 'tango', as we all should know
And if you don't, then your doing it wrong...

Stupidest idea ever?

1) It's not like they want to get pregnant : it's a problem of carelessness.
2) If they do want a child, they should not be dissuaded, just educated about what a great responsibility it is.
3) Most of the time it's the guys who insist on doing it without condom, since it gives the greatest "bonus pleasure" to men.

On the matter of who's responsible, I think it's better to refer to women with campaigns of this kind: they take the greatest risk (guys can just run if they make someone pregnant) and are usually more reliable (since male teenagers really think with two heads). However it's better to educate than to punish, and giving free condoms and explaining how high the risks are with lesser methods (i.e. "pull and pray") seems the best solution to me.

Anyone else see this ending up with the US government sueing a 15 yr old girl for the return of $30 because she got pregnant and didnt tell anyone/didnt know for the first month? and anyway, how are they gonna regulate this? all females under 21 need daily pregnancy tests?

unworkable, unrealistic and will almost certainly hurt the majority of people that pass through it if it ever takes off.

but since when will a singular dollar a day sway anything in the adult world?
Tell that to all the Ethiopians. <.<
Whoops, I meant in Western cultures.

Check me out getting all racist on a thread about being politically correct.

Don't worry, I'm well aware it wasn't racist...

You shouldnt have to bribe girls to stop them getting pregnant at an early age, its just nuts and as far as I know the school system is strapped for cash as it is. Why dont they just tackle the root of the problem and find out why girls are having babies so young and educate them on why its a fucking stupid idea.
A 16 year old with only about a month of school left is not going to care about the loss of $30 and get pregnant anyway if she is really set on it.

Attacking teenage pregnancy from both the front and rear, that is both men and women, will surely yield more successful results?
There is a joke there. I'm just not going to make it.

The idea is ridiculous, to be honest.

On a side note: Unless rape is involved it is both sexes responsibility equally to use contraception.

Why do governments keep paying people NOT to fuck up? Why not just punish them for fucking up and pay the guys who actually deserve it?

They should make it 2 a day if they have a boyfriend. This way not just the girls win, but the guys AND the skanks AND the nerds win (because you know there's going to be some chick that will pretend to date anyone willing just to get an extra buck), and i suppose if you really want to be a dick about it (no pun intended) you could say that gay people lose and that's a win (but i heavily heavily FROWN on it)

Its no less stupid than paying women not to smoke while pregnant.

It's a matter of common sense. Apparently we are combatting a lack of it with bribery.

Natural Selection foiled once again by stupidity in government.

I am not sure what this topic has to do with political correctness (how I hate that term) at all. Teenage pregnancy is quite a problem in some areas and this measure might be a good way to tackle it but I have not looked into it so I can't say (though I don't think many people here have either judging by the average response). However what that has to do with PCness I can't tell and the OP did not make the connection for me.

Who else are you going to blame?
The men?
For having sex with them?
And impregnating them?
Yeah because we all have this magical power where we control the girls minds.
They are literally unable to say no. They can't refuse to have sex without a condom.
Yup, sure loves me that power. -.-;;;
Yes as no man could ever pressure his girlfriend into having sex, no sir never happened once ever. It is all them pesky women's fault for dressing all sexy like and stuff. It is also not like the man should be worried about the risks of sex without a condom either, that would just be silly.

So by that logic, you're saying girls must shoulder all the responsibility of birth control because boys lack the common sense to? The way you put this makes it sound like the boys' role in a sexual relationship is to beg and pressure girls for sex without a condom because, hey, we all know boys can't and shouldn't be trusted to do the responsible thing - right?

Dont worry about it if a program wants to waste their money I'd be glad to take it. Besides studies have shown teenage pregnancy rates drop dramatically after they hit the age of 20.

Can I just ask for a clarification here? Do we really have people suggesting that women should shoulder the entirety of the blame for accidental pregnancies?

I believe thats what the newly implemented program is implying...
And as such, it made me feel a little weird about the whole story
So I asked the Escapist's if they get the same feeling
The feeling that the creators of the program believe thats women are the root of the problem
Which, for the record, is completely incorrect
As I said earlier, it takes two(genders) to tango (and procreate).

In the spirit of anti-political correctness...

I vote they bribe the girls with shoes and purses, and use a mascot to dissuade the guys who walks around with a cleaver and makes threatening gestures to them. I also push for advance notice on the names and locations of every school to be involved in this be told to me so I can be nowhere near any of them when this program goes into place.

Huh, turns out it's actually kinda hard to be politically incorrect when only gender is involved. Now if this thread involved any particular race or religion, THEN there'd be some possibilities.

Damn mormons...

You misunderstand me, I was asking if we had members of the forum who believe that unwanted pregnancies are solely a woman's fault, because we've had a few posts that seem to suggest that certain posters think that men are totally blameless.
