I won't bother debating how our post are related as you don't seem to understand how, which confuses me.genericusername64 said:You wrote "Some respect life, but some just respect their own more, I value my life and wouldn't give it up (sept maybe for my children or something) as it's the only thing I have and only get one." Giving up your life has nothing to do with my post or his post, and in this case respecting your life more than others is called Greedweker said:And I answered that question, so I don't know what your on about. I take it you haven't bothered to look up and see my other post, as my reply to you was totally based around what you wrote not the OP.
That's where I pressed the button... >_>retyopy said:So here's the deal. You now have a big red button. You press it, your every whim will be catered to for the rest of your obscenely long life, and you will stay fit and healthy throughout.

Firstly you always make good threads Retyopy XDretyopy said:I have respect for human life. Specifically, humans that I love and cherish, like my family and friends. I find it hard to care about 5 pople that I will never meet. I know it's immoral. I know it's cruel. I would be guilty. But I would do it anyway.genericusername64 said:Since you don't have any respect for human life, I guess some people have to, I wouldn't press it.retyopy said:Wow, the people of the escapist are a lot nicer than me. Why, yes, we press that button about every four years here in the states. We press it gleefully (those 5 people are more like 500,000 and they're usually brown people). Cynicism makes us odd.retyopy said:So here's the deal. You now have a big red button. You press that button, 5 people die. This won't effect you in anyway. You will never meet those people, it won't hurt you, and you could not press that button and their lives will still mean nothing. To you.
But somewhere out there, a family will cry for them. You will be responisble for a lot sadness and pain and hurt.
Do you press the button?
Now, I would love to say that I wouldn't. I would love to say that I'm compassionate enough to care for these people I will never meet. But I'm not. My life, taken care of, instantly? Money, fame, a big house, extravagant food, but no consquences to stuffing my gob? Sign me up, daddy-o! I would feel guilty, sure, but guilt doesn't cut it. I'm just being honest.
So... Yeah.
EDIT: Wow, the people of the escapist are a lot nicer than me. Go figure. Not changing my answer, though.
You said that you would kill five people to have a paradise, that is greed. The first post did not say that if you didn't press the button you would die.weker said:Also Greed is about possession, wealth and power, wanting to live is self preservation not greed.
This brings me to an interesting aspect of this problem that may have gone underappreciated by people here, which is the correlation between the deliberation that goes into pressing the button and the consequences of satisfying the whims of someone making that deliberation.OriginalLadders said:Balancing greed, the overpopulation of the planet and my opinion on the intelligence of the average person.
Oh hell yeah. I'd press the button at least five times, just to make sure.
I was talking about respective for life not the button, also you jump to conclusions that my life goals are selfish, however my goals in life are to bring joy to many by being a games designer, furthermore the money and such I gain can be used to save more life then were used for the buttons powers.genericusername64 said:You said that you would kill five people to have a paradise, that is greed.
