Yes and no.

No, since I don't really need persuading. I'd buy a PS3 if I could afford it, but I don't have spare income lying around to spend on a console. Even if I did, I'd rather buy a few extra games.

Yes, but not for the FPS games. FPS games are serviceable enough on the console, at least with the ten layers of autoaim most of them have. What I WOULD be interested in is the potential for a wider range of Strategy and Tactics games on the PS3, which would only help the platform.

P.S. I'm not too big on mods. 99% of them are utter crap, and I just don't feel like sifting through endless lists of them to find the few that are actually any good and enrich the game. There are some exceptions, but as a general rule, I avoid mods.

Nah

A PS3 is still a PS3 no matter how many addons you put on it.

Frankly no, the only game I would get a PS3 for that I couldn't get elsewhere is LBP; and that's just not worth the huge outlay in time, expense and room. Without the modding community, FPSs are just dull.
Given some of them a try and it just feels like work.

If you want the best of the best on PC and console, the PC is going to be about 4 times as expensive as a console.

If you want the cheapest of each the PC might actually end up more expensive, everybody has a tv that you can hook up a console to but I can't hook up a pc to my tv.

My low to mid end custom pc (not including the keyboard, mouse, speakers or monitor) cost slightly more than PS3, with controller and games, just saying.

Well.

The simple answer would be that, no, it would not, on it's own, entire me to buy a PS3.
The fact is that there's not enough truely awesome (!-IMO-!) PS3 exclusives out there to make it a worthwhile buy. I'm already quite content with the massive amounts of games still coming out for the PC platform, usually for extremely low prices in comparison to PS3 / Xbox versions. (Even when the game was PORTED! from the 360... /LogicFail)

On to the PS3 side of things, I don't actually think that this gadget will have much success.
While I agree that the KB/Mouse combo beats the living shiet out of the Analog Sticks and D-Pads (yes, I own a 360(0 breakdowns in 3 years), so I'm qualified to say that), I don't think that there's a market among current owners of Consoles for this type of control system. We're all conservative at our core, that's just human nature, and it means that very few are likely to see the light (the light being the epiphany that players using this should be capable of wiping the opposition's royal arses with silk... so to speak... that didn't make sense...).

And I have to give a good applause for Sebenko on his comments. I wholeheartedly agree.

Also, to be perfectly honest, building your own PC from scratch really isn't that hard. I know a lot of people might feel intimidated about starting the project, but there's plenty of great guides out there in the interwebz for you to just grab at and use at your convenience.

Also, pretty much everything is labeled to tell you where it fits. All you really gotta do is read a good bit, look at some pretty pictures, maybe some videos, and you'll have a perfectly good idea of how to approach it.

Man, you PC guys love your mods, don't you?
Hell yes we do, nothing more fun than being able to have the game do exactly what you want and having 500 times the amount of DLC without needing to pay for it.

As for the controller, I'd need to play with it to find out because as it's not got native support from the games I don't see how it would work like a regular mouse. It would still be limited to the sensitivity the game allows and wouldn't be twitch aiming it would still be dragged.
Wouldn't make me get a PS3 for FPS games as it's not just the controller that I find to be the problem. I plan on getting a PS3 for MGS4, GT5 and a few other things, but I'd use a controller for both of those, anything a K&M would do better I'd get on my PC if possible (and if it doesn't do it better but is available on PC, I'll plug in my PS2 controller USB adapter).

Oh hell yes.

There's a reason I got the tinker badge in that what kind of gamer are you quiz.

Modding makes PC games great! STALKER Shadow Of Chernobyl was only a "good" game when it was released, but thanks to the great, great mods for it, I now consider it one of the best FPS's of all time.

Same with Morrowind, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights, Vampire The Masquerade, almost all of Valves games, Warcraft, Call Of Duty 2, and the Battlefield games, plus many others.

Hell, even console games ported over sometimes get improved by mods. GTA San Andreas for example, the Things To Do In San Andreas mod adds about 10 times the content of the original.

I'm not being elitist or anything, it's just my favourite part of PC gaming.
I can kind of understand were your coming from, I used to dabble on DoW and there were a few custom skins that were good.

I just get the feeling some pc gamers are like spoiled kids when a game doesn't support mods, I mean does every game have to come with the ability to let you mess around with it? And why give it the cold shoulder if it wont.

I have never thought while playing a game, "man, I wish I could mod this and change that".

Talk about derailing my own thread. Well I have my answer, a resounding "HA, no"

Edit. Jandau nailed it as far as modding goes, I imagine there are tonnes of mods for various games and having to sift through all those mods looking for the odd gem, seems more like a chore.

There isn't a single game on a console I would think 'I'd get that if only I could control it with a keyboard'

In fact there's never been a game on a console I'd think that ever.

A peripheral is an extra, if anyone thinks a peripheral would be a decisive matter in a decision like that is completely missing the point of the base item.

I've thought this a lot.

But mods don't just modify what is already there, they add maps/levels/weapons/game modes basically anything, even completely new games are mods.

No.

Because ps3 games are mostly designed to play with a controller in mind. Which makes it horrible to play it with a mouse/keyboard combo.

Look into Batman arkham asylum and devil may cry 4 & Hawx & mirrors edge.
Which I all played with a xbox controller because it was horrible on a keyboard. Too me anyways.

Must note that ME was doable with mouse keyboard but controller was better :p

It's not even about changing things for me. The real thrill, for me, in modding comes from playing some of the total conversion mods out there. Basically, it's another game entirely that someone has modded onto the original engine. Buy 1 game, get 100. That's a deal I like. Obviously, many are of suspect quality but there are some true gems out there. Gamers with a real passion for creating content and storylines that might never get a chance to do it for a living so they ply their talents in the modding world.

That's the real fun for me.

Except that only someone compensating for something buys "the best of the best". Sure, you could have two GTX295s/480s in SLI, 64GB of RAM, Triple monitor, dual six-core processors and a petabyte of HD space, but it's not needed.
It's like a gold plated PS3.
Even my current setup is a tiny bit excessive for just getting by. As an example, it can run Metro 2033 on High/Very high settings, while the 360 version of the game runs at settings which are between low and medium.

And everyone has a PC. The cost of upgrading a normal desktop to that of a mid-high end gaming PC is less than that of a PS3- especially now that many desktop office machines have better than dual core processors.

And I believe you can connect a PC to a TV. And Google agrees. First result for "TV as PC monitor": http://www.howtodothings.com/electronics/a3543-how-to-use-your-tv-as-a-computer-monitor.html

I called it! Give it a decade or so and consoles and Pc's will have merged to such an extent that it will be hard to tell them apart. Or so I think...

It wont compel me to buy a PS3, because its still not a Pc and still has all the limitations of a console. And hey, Pc is not much more expensive if not same price/cheaper than consoles now.

nope, becuase I own a ps3. XD and play on both PC. :) I love Mods but I still play my ps3 more.

reason why many (not all) say No is becuase they love mods and they believe console games are inferior becuase you cant mod them. Also they believe they are somehow too good for them becuase they are PC gamers.

edit: Remember I said NOT ALL.
