One word:

Wookies.

Really though, if you're going to enslave an entire race, wouldn't you choose one that can't, oh I don't know, rip your freaking arm off if the restraints fail for even one second?

Ah, but that's the point. Wookies are very strong so they are good manual laborers.

I jus imagined the pain it would be trying to hook that thing up at a petrol station. And with fuel prices these days... wow!

In case you hadn't noticed, the Star Wars universe, interesting as it is, is more about action, adventure, fantasy and drama than it is about science. If you want more science in your Sci-Fi, you have to watch Star Trek or the newer Battlestar Galactica shows. Star Wars was intended from the very beginning to be an homage to the sci-fi fantasy weekly serials that showed on Saturday matinees before the main feature. Shows like the original version of Flash Gordon are what Star Wars is really based on.

I love the Star Wars movies, but I try not to think too hard about what I'm seening in the movies nor the related cartoons and video games as they intentionally didn't put too much depth into it.

Hyperspace engines and gravitational force. Sigh, this is gonna tar and feather me as a dork for the remainder of my escapist days but....

The death star does not move under its own power, except for relocating from system to system via hyperspace. Once in a system, it relies on gravitational force. It does have the ability to use a gravity well (as seen on SD Interdictors) to manipulate system gravity for minor repositioning.

Tow-cables.

Ever wonder why a giant orb that can vaporize entire planets needs an armada of ships?

I don't know if you've actaully read anything we're writing in this thread, but none of it makes any sense. This is for fun, not for seriousness.

Facilitating the Death Star's realspace propulsion were a network of powerful ion engines that transformed reactor power into needed thrust. In order for the Death Star to be a deadly threat, it needed to be mobile. Using linked banks of 123 hyperdrive field generators tied into a single navigational matrix, the Death Star could travel across the Galaxy at superluminal velocities. The incredible energies harnessed by the station combined with its great mass gave the Death Star magnetic and artificial gravitational fields equal to those found on orbital bodies many times greater in size.
Here is the technical answer.

Edit: For giggles: Gungan tongues.

First they dismantle it, label all of the parts then ship to a destination then re-assemble it. Always with a part left over!

It doesn't, the Dark Side of the Force moves the Universe whilst the Death Star stays still. It's that powerful.
Futuramastyle.

I did read every post before the one I made. I know it's all in fun, but it just kind of drives me nuts when people nit pick movies, especially space opera fantasy movies like Star Wars.

Im not really nit picking, i hate doing it and i love star wars. It was just i was watching a scene when the Death Star is "moving" towards Yavin and me and my brother both screamed "HOW THE HELL IS THAT MOVING!!?"
