Meh. people are always going to like the thing they've got better than the other option out there, and if the amount of dickishness is juuuust right, by god they will lord it over all who stand before them. fanboyism will never be truly rid of, people are always gonna want to show off how good their toys are. personally I prefer pc gaming but have a console since I can't afford a good gaming pc and the xbox is a relatively cheap alternative. The only difference I can see in them anyway is the controllers and I suppose paying for xbox live.

What happened to ps3 versus xbox?

Im sick of arguing with snobs. PC gamers fuck off about how good you are. if pc gaming was as good as you claim it to be it would be more popular than consoles. as it stands pc's are not so explain that.
now now, no reason we can't all be nice to each other :)
the explaination is simple: the vast, mindless hordes of halo kids don't want anything more complicated than baddies here, gun there, kill they ass! and that's fine. if simple, quick thingies are your games of choice, then console is the platform for you. so there isn't really a "better", or "worse" platform, there is only better and worse for me and you and whoever makes that choice. i want maximum accuracy in shooters, i want real time strategy games, i want clever and well thought out marvels of gaming that are not just some mindles shooty stuff, like the first two fallouts, i want powerfull hardware for seriously beautyfull graphics. so i'll chose pc. if someone doesn't need all that, he should get a console. as it stands, most people don't want that. still doesn't make consoles or console games "better"
thanks for listening^^

now, @ topic: i have no problem with console gamers at all. just with consoles. well, not even that, really, just with what consoles do to the developement and advancement (or more, lack thereof) of videogames. but i agree with the op, it's not the players fault.

and btw: i can't believe no one has posted that yet!

Some people obviously take it too far. It seems like the main reason that some pc gamers feel superior is that there are more casual gamers on consoles, who may be worse players.

PC or console is honestly only a matter of preference. On PC you get better controls, better graphics, and arguably better players. While consoles allow you to relax more easily, as you can play lying down on a sofa.

In the end, people need to stop looking at stereotypes. Not every console gamer is a sqeaky kid, and not every PC gamer is an elitist who thinks he's better than everyone else.

Wrong, PC gaming currently is the largest casual gaming market. There is a reason why zynga makes better profit than most of the AAA industries.

Lets try a little word replacement and see if this sounds familiar:

"Im sick of arguing with snobs. 360 gamers fuck off about how good you are. if 360 gaming was as good as you claim it to be it would be more popular than Wii. as it stands 360's are not so explain that."

See what you are doing? You are using the same argument as Nintendo fanboys just shifted along the spectrum of casual-to-hardcore. You are making the obvious argument that if you dumb down to the lowest common denominator then you will sell more but that DOES NOT mean the actual users will be better off.

You have to realise PC gamers look on 360 users much like 360 users look at Wii-users...

Hi there. I'm a PC gamer and I don't hate console gamers.

Actually, most of us don't, just so happends that the ones who do are usually pretty loud about it.
For some reason I was expecting a comment along the lines of: "Hello, I'm Commander Shepard and the PC is my favourite gaming platform"

OT: Boil it down man, it's human nature, and more specifically e-penis. As long as someone can identify him/herself as above someone else, that person will feel better. PC gamers are not the only ones to do that.

one that that pisses me off is the "dumbification" issue
But it's true if Devs spent a little more time optimizing for the PC they'd have more sales and everybody wins. But most of them don't and because of it they come up with stupid reasons not to develop games on PC's.

The "dumbification" argument for me anyway is with fps cover based systems, linear paths and set pieces, I feel it removes strategy from the equation.

Edit: If you ask nicely I'll explain my reasoning.

We don't buy games because they are popular, we buy games because we want to have fun, we want to see how much the technology has changed since our last purchase and lately it seems not much. I haven't felt the need to upgrade hardware in 3 years(thats a very long time for me).

I usually don't post in fanboy threads, but ill make an exception since I'm bored. I don't mind PC fanboys, or console fanboys. Its human nature to argue that your arbitrary bauble is better then the other persons arbitrary bauble. However, what does annoy me is when people starting harping on about fanboys not liking the other fanboys stuff. It brings no discussion value, and everybody already knows it to some extent. Well I guess I'm a hypocrite, since I am responding to this thread. Imagine that.

Agreed. The minority sub-group of any larger group tend to be the most vocal. That said I do feel a twinge of arrogant pride when comparing my gaming PC to a PS3. I also don't like it when well established PC game franchises are graphically dumbed down for consoles, thus making the PC version have to suffer at the same level of fidelity. I get that the studio does it to hit a larger demographic so they make more money from their efforts, but it always leaves a sour taste. Most people say there isn't a big difference between consoles and PC in graphics fidelity. Actually, there is, quite a big one. The difference between DX9 and DX11 is phenomenal. It's why BF3 was a breath of fresh air, that DICE took the time to make the PC version the best it could be, which is what I'm all about, making games they best they can be on their respective platforms. Not just cheap, one size fits all for the sake of cash games.

... but I think we can all agree that those pc gamers are entitled fuckwits.
And that's why I just dis-regarded your statement. How can you make a very bold, sweeping statement, when it was established quite early on in this thread that those PC gamers who are vocal about how much better they are than console gamers are a very loud minority? I personally don't care, neither do a good number of PC gamers. I have a gaming PC and a PS3. All you've served to show is that there is the same sort of arrogance found in the PC gamer 'master race' you so hate actually in yourself too.

I'm kind of in agreement with you OP. I am a long time PC gamer, and I find the relentless bashing of consoles absurd. Anyone who wants to see why the console market is so large and so popular simply has to get a complete computer neophyte to try and design a gaming grade PC. When they're done, it'll likely cost a couple of thousand dollars (AUD) and will have taken literal MONTHS of research. For my last upgrade I researched for a fortnight on and off to understand the stuff. A far too complex and expensive platform will not attract mainstream consumers.
Without mainstream consumers, publishers make less, and developers will end up making more console games. But this is the fault of the PC, and not the console. That's like blaming Homo Sapien for being superior to the Neanderthal. Whilst some, including me, like the insular community and complexity of the system, I can't help but acknowledge we reap what we sow.
But console players should take note: long time gamers will feel a sense of entitlement and priviledge. We stuck with the hobby, some of us were derided for it. And the next time some testosterone overdosing jock joins my Counter-Strike game straight out of Call of Duty and Halo and calls me a nerd I will be annoyed. Show respect. Of course PC gamers are pissed off. So let them be, and be quiet, whatever you say will be disregarded.
Also: Fanboy is a derogative term, used to indicate an illogical and irrational person with an obsession over something. Don't use it to describe PC enthusiasts, especially on a gaming forum.
And this. End of thread.

Consoles are much cheaper than a gaming PC, and they can run the Crysis games at decent framerates and graphics settings without you having to sell your soul.

A dedicated gaming PC, however, displays the games much better since PC hardware is far superior to the limited resources available to those 5+ year old consoles.

PC games might be upset at how developers create lower quality games in order to target the console market.

DISCLAIMER: I'd like to start this out by saying not all PC gamers do this, and I really appreciate the ones that don't. This is not aimed at anyone not guilty of this, so put your flame shields down. For those that do do this, prepare thyself.
I appreciate your initial disclaimer, but your post is still pointless flamebait. Look around some older threads, for every dedicated "PC gaming master race" thread on this forum you'll find two "PC gamers suck!" or "PC gamers are all rabid fanboys that need to be put down" threads. In fact, I find console fanboys to be far more numerous here than the PC ones (not saying all console gamers are fanboys, or even most of them).

But either way, making threads to whine about whining is kinda pointless, isn't it?

As for the platforms themselves, I play on the PC because I did so since I was a kid. If I had more money, I'd probably invest in a console as well. I like all platforms and I don't think console gaming is to blame for the dumbing down of games (broader market and the ever lower lowest common denominator are to blame for that). In fact, I belive PC and console gaming should learn from eachother.

But as long as people focus on "my platform VS your platform", regardless of the platforms in question, that isn't happening. So just ignore the fanboy trolls (as you are supposed to do with any trolls) from either side and focus on the games.
