Whilst talking to a friend in the Somerfield Superstore (England) he works at, I casually mentioned I hadn't got round to finding the money for a PS3 yet, but I desperately wanted to own one.

Then, from out of nowhere, this guy appears and says "don't buy a PS3 mate, the PS3 is s***, buy a 360 instead!"

Because he said it in a kinda cheerful way, I assumed this man was a friend of my friend, so I polited told him "no, I want a PS3 because it has all the exclusive games I want to play."

He then goes "no, seriously mate, the graphics are way better on the 360. Me an me mate played Oblivion on both of them at the same time and it actually looks a bit better on the 360".

I spent literally 10 minutes with this guy listening to him go on about the 360's 'superior' graphics and me telling him it still didn't have the games I wanted before he eventually goes "well F*** off then!" then walks off.

As it turns out, this guy wasn't a friend of my friend at all, he was just some random guy that jumped in on our personal conversation!

I found this to be really bizarre. He was at least in his 30's, and wasn't the kind of guy you'd associate as a 360 elitist (he looked like the kinda guy you wouldn't have thought played videogames at all).

This is the only time something like this has happened to me, so I'd like to know, has anything like this happened to you guys? Or maybe it happens all the time?

I've never gotten into arguments with a random person about consoles, but....

I've gotten into arguments with friends over witch console is better. Graphics don't make a game good.
Just buy both consoles, you can find them used for cheaper.

He sounds like a Gamestop employee. Let me pull out the checklist

Jumping into personal conversations-Check

Talking to you about shit you don't want to talk about-Check

Insisting that His/Her opinion is right and your an idiot-Check

Incredibly rude when you disagree with Him/Her-Check

Yup he meets all the criteria for a gamestop employee.

Edit: Yes it happens to me at my local gamestop all the time if you can't tell. =/

I live in New York City. Everybody and their dog is an opinionated asshole. You get used to it.

I'm glad none of the 3 GameStops in my location don't have employees like this. The employees here are actually pretty nice.
On topic, no, I've never had anyone do this; but if I must say, I hardly talk in public.

I've never had anybody walk up to me in a supermarket or on the street and rant about videogames or consoles. Then again, I rarely ever talk about games outside of when I am either playing or at home, so I guess it doesn't really apply to me.

Well its not game related but one time playing in the park as a kid my friend whom I was with, talked about how something was "gay".

This was the cue for some random guy in his thirties to come over to us and give a half hour lecture about why homosexuality was a bad thing.

I don't know what people have against gamestop employees, the ones at my 2 local gamestops are very nice people.
Sure they get the occasional idiots, like ones that don't know you can have a wireless connection for your PS3.
They don't last long though.

.......French Bread? thats pretty hard, and if you hit them hard enough it could break......

Personally I have seen problems with both the 360 and the ps3, but the argument is the same, I could buy a 599.99 USD ps3 to play games on, OR I could buy the 199.99 360 then get the 60 GB HD and play the exact same games............

as for exclusives, there are only 4 games I want to play on the ps3, compared to the 24 games I am playing on the 360, this does not warrant a 'buy' for the ps3, now if it was to kick into high gear and make use of its stolen mechanics, then I might re-consider [LAIR was the ONLY game that made me love Six-Axis controls, OTHER GAME JUST DONT COMPARE!
Well I'm very opinionated with the 360... I owned one for about 2 weeks before I sold it off. I made the special attempt of not slating the 360 as I felt it'd be rude and chances are the man would get quite emotional... so I just played along as best as I could.

If that were the case, I think I really would hit them... with the only thing being breakable was their head.

I want it for Little Big Planet, Flower, Heavy Rain, Uncharted I & II, Project Ico's next game, and Motorstorm Pacific Rift so far. Then there's non-exclusives like Soul Calibur 4 (with an arcade stick of course), Brutal Legend and Bad Company, Plus I wouldn't be giving any money to Micro$oft.

What a loser. He was like thirty and acted like a thirteen year old that couldn't afford both consoles so hates on it to make him feel better. I bet that was his problem too, since he didn't sound like he even have a job.
Most 360 fanboys I've seen or read or heard are 12-14 year olds that think Halo 3 is the best game ever.
