Well isnt that a good thing? multi function? Unlike your controller where you have to plug a keyboard into the dam thing.
You want to know why we use text unput devices for controlls? Beacause its better than a controller specificaly designed for for gaming. More keys more controlls and you hand isnt fomred into an awful claw shape.
Tch, yet another lame ass attempt at "justifying" the use of it. Look, why dont you just do what I did and admit you cant use one over the other. This trying to pass off using mouse and keyboard over controller as "better" is really pathetic, and whats more, irritating. At the end of the day it comes down to one thing, which one you adapt to better. Thats the entire point behind game input devices, learning the controls inside and out. Some people here might be piss awful at senstive and precise movements of the analogue stick, but that doesnt mean its bad. I dont think the mouse is a bad device for others to use, Im just not all that good with it myself.

So... Wait... You actually compared a First Person Shooter to a Third Person Shooter, and then complained about how the FPS doesn't have a cover system--something that only Killzone 2 has? You should have actually read the damn reviews for christ's sake, not just looked at the metacritic score. The gameplay is explained in detail and there are plenty of gameplay videos. You have no one to blame but yourself, you went in uninformed and expecting something completely different from what Resistance 2 delivers.

You should have kept reading until you got to this:

In an effort to make the game more "challenging," the developers decided to give your player the physical constitution of parchment paper. Three hits and you are down. With the whole regenerating health scheme, however, it really shouldn't be that big a problem. So when you hear your squad mates yell out "get to cover!" You think, No problem! I'll just get behind this here crate and engage the cover mechanic. Wait, there is no cover mechanic? So you're telling me that I have to crouch awkwardly behind this crate as the swarm of aliens (who are always solely concentrating fire on you) manage to nail the top two inches of your exposed head. Oh, that's just lovely! And because there is no cover mechanic, there is no way to pop out over or around cover and smoothly take out hostiles.
Cause that's where I stopped. Apparently this guy has never played an FPS in his life and was expecting Resistance 2 to have a cover system similar to Gears of War 1 and 2. *facepalm*

EDIT: I have confirmation that he did not read or watch a single review or even read a simple summary of the game, he just looked at the metacritic score.

So maybe the reason Resistance 2 has managed such good ratings is because it delivers some sort of landmark multiplayer experience that I refuse to let myself enjoy. I highly doubt that however, as consoles today just aren?t the right vehicle for such a thing. This request is already long enough, so I?m not going to wax on about how this game?s positive reviews are a commentary on the sorry state of the game industry and the journalists who report on it, but instead I?ll summarize succinctly: The reviewers responsible for Resistance 2?s B+ grade are pussies, and Yahtzee needs to put them in their place!!!
Saying that good multiplayer shooters are impossible on consoles just reeks of fanboyism. So does your paragraph you had dedicated to bashing aiming with an analog stick. Stop whining, it's your fault.

Basically, you are one of these Yahtzee fans who suck at something so they want him to talk crap about it while you kiss his shoes? There is too many ZP fans who expect him to save the day, I don't think he would actually care about your opinion to be honest, who cares if it hasn't got a cover system, there is many amazing FPS' which don't have cover systems so you can't really say that it is a rip-off of Gears of War, can you now?

Just do us all a favour and go to his forums or something, it would save you a lot of time and us a lot of hassle.

Yeah, but I hate Apple, so I will destroy ever iPhone I can get my hands on, thus creating lots and lots of tiny, sharp objects.

Resistance 1 was glorious, for someone who didn't like the macho bullshit of Gears of War it was the perfect substitute, for instead of cocky muscle brained pillocks wandering around with phallic symbols jammed so hard it hurt, Resistance delivered strait laced Brits with an air of understatement and tea. I loved that despite the blatant Gears of War ripoff. To me a high factor of whether i play the game to the end or not is based in whether i want the characters to live or not and i found myself frequently wanting to shoot Cole-train through the face with everything going...

Resistance 2 by comparison was bland and repetitive with characters i found i didn't give a shit about

Like most people, I have limited time for games.
So let me try to understand this...

Most people who play games, don't really have time to play games. (What?)

Or:

Most people (in the world) don't really have time to play games. (Well, people who don't play games at all, obviously don't need much time to play them.)

Not quite sure what you're trying to say here. Seems redundant.

And I work 60 hours a week and usually more and I still manage to find all kinds of time to play video games, spend time with my girl, and visit friends and family.

Anyways, as far as first posts go, it is one of the better ones.

HOWEVER! You sir, are an incredible blowhard. Step down off the soapbox please, and stop whining about your inability to play games on a console.

Oh dear god, another retard who compares A First-Person Shooter to a third-person tactical combat game!

Resistance 2 is not Gears of War. Get it through your fucking skull. You cannot compare the two games directly, any more than you can directly compare Tomb Raider to Mario Kart.

Now, by the sound of things you are claiming the game is shit because you can't bear to look in the mirror. Yes, Resistance 2 has no Cover Mechanic. Nor does any other FPS game! You claim the game is hard, but I've beaten it on Normal, and am over halfway through on Hard, and there were very few areas that I got stuck... and when I did, it was usually because I was being an idiot and not making proper use of allies and cover.

Seriously, it is not hard to use Cover in Resistance 2. You crouch behind a wall, work out roughly where the enemy is, then pop-up and shoot. So long as you duck before you take too much damage, you'll be fine.

The flippant "weapons are lame" comment really shows you're a clueless little tosser. Every weapon has a Secondary Fire mode, ranging from grenade launchers to homing tags to force fields. Alright, Resistance 2's armaments are not all shining gems of brilliance, but none of them are crap either. The Auger "Mark 2" is an amazing weapon! It goes through walls, you can see enemies through walls, and it projects a dome of energy that can deflect any and all weapons fire. The only reason this isn't the only weapon you use for the whole game is it has a slow rate of fire!

And that brings me to the second point on weapons; they all have flaws. This is not because Insomniac did a shit job, it's because everyone else does a shit job! The Shotgun is intended for point-blank, the Bullseye is for close range, the Carbine is for close-medium range. The Rossmore is far better for killing than the Carbine, but you have to get close. The Bullseye does more damage than the Carbine, but is less accurate. Therefore, the player has to decide what he needs to complete his mission. Likewise, weapons such as the Marksman and Auger are not as good for sniping as the Fareye, but they aren't as good for 'brawling' as the Bullseye or Carbine - these weapons are intended for medium-long range fire-fights, ideally from cover, where you don't always have the luxury of lining up a precision head-shot.

This weapon balance shows up best on multiplayer. The Bullseye is far more dangerous up close, but over distance the Carbine wins. The Marksman is far better than either of these at range, but in a head-to-head you will usually be unable to fire fast enough to stop the other guy gunning you down with the Carbine. Again, the weakness of each weapon is what makes it both balanced, and tactical - the right weapon for the right job.

Resistance 2 is by no means a perfect game. No game is perfect. However, it is an excellent FPS, and the Resistance universe is one of the best game settings around. It is the weaker of the two in terms of plot, no question, and in some areas it does seem they are using the jaw-dropping graphics to hide gameplay flaws (such as the notably inferior "Red Ring of Death" health system that replaced the "Hybrid" Health system of Fall of Man), but it is still by no means a terrible game.

Oh, and I can't stand Keyboard and Mouse FPS games - PCs are for RTS games.
i Agree with You here

The fact he Refuses to even try the Multiplayer isent helping his Case either, the Game is Rated M, you dont run into droves of 14 year olds as he thinks one might, the missions in the coop online And the Competitive online can be just as large as a single player map, can have as many Objectives as a single player map, and have been designed around cooperating with your team, its all a Rather well done game, you dont happen to like it?, well go play something else, i so did not like Lord of the rings conquest when it came out, so i did the logical thing and traded it in for something i do enjoy playing

You know, I've always had issues with fps's on consoles, I started out playing shooters on the pc, (same with tactic games like warcraft), and everything else on the console.

The whole analog controllers just don't do it for me. (The xbox controller is worse at fps games then the ps controller imo, but this coming from someone who played the orginal PS. I bet all of you who think the xbox controller is easier, Played the xbox first...(and the only reason the xbox controller is so large, is there target consumer are football playign frat boys.))

Anyways, if you are used to a mouse, they do have a controller for the PS3, that uses a mouse instead of the right analog stick.

Now before you say 'that looks like a wii mote!' its not, and your an idiot.
1. http://www.splitfish.com/?uid=i1ns5pb1ulxg2l14
2. all they ddi was take a ps2/3 controller cut it in half, left the left side nearly intact with some shape modifications (to make it holdable on the left hand). The right side, they turned into a mouse, and moved the 4 shape buttons on the left side of the mouse.

I personally enjoyed this review greatly. The writing style was actually interesting and humorous. It seems on the escapist the only person who can get away with a scathing review is Yahtzee....which is ridiculous. I like hearing/reading harsh reviews more than good ones, which is why i love ZP. You guys are seriously too uptight, so he didn't like the game...and you did. Big deal. Personally I haven't played the game yet so I don't know what it's like.

It seems like this is just another long boring rant about how you didn't like a game. You know, everything you just said could have been scaled down to about a paragraph.

What you said made sense, but I've never played Resistance so I wouldn't know. Also I doubt Yahtzee will ever read this.

I know it isn't a crass video full of wacky cartoons (it's just a regular video of playing the game), but The Escapist did a text review of the game where Endo panned the whole thing. Caused a bit of fuss in the forum if I remember correctly.

Devil May Cry 2 got a 100% score from a certain Magazine. For it's story, of all things.

The writers and the office of this Magazine were found 'mysteriously' burned to death shortly after.

Sorry i didnt mean to put hate on the controller, for me its much M/k better but i can use controllers with ease. If contollers suit you then thats just fine, for games like Gear of war they work jsut as well as a keyboard setup. Racing games too are god awful on Mice

Gaming input device argument #7896

Everyone knows the paddle was the best gaming input device evar!

To the OP thanks for the review. I will keep it in mind if I ever get around to playing the game. I doubt Yahtzee will respond to this.
