The 360 is like a greasy kebab in a friday night on the lash.

You know in your heart that it's not made of the best of parts and theres bit's in there your would rather bot know about
but boy does it taste good! And you just have to keep comming back.

On my third 360 myself....
Give that man a prize for the best analogy of a 360 ever.

I've never actually heard of this and was planning to buy a 360. They die after a year? How do you get them replaced- do I have to shell out another goddamned 500 bucks each time?

Not ALL 360's are completely dodgy. Some last for years, others last for 3 sodding days. As long as you get the warranty, you can get them replaced for free.

The warranty for the classic "RROD" thats the main fault is 3 years from microsoft.

It was mainly the earlier hardware that had this problem. The latest models have a larger heat sink.
Still not a good idea to put it in an enclosed space though.

I haven't seen the Red Rings on my machine yet, but late last year it just inexplicably stopped outputting sound or video. Apparently something went on the motherboard, but during the bootup sequence (when the lights flash around the ring) everything was going normally.

Recently I've been getting more and more disc read errors, so I figure the disc drive's on its way out. I'm well outside the warranty period now, so I'll end up having to pay a fortune to get the machine repaired.

The exact same thing happened to my mate's 360. The price of getting a 360 repaired outside of warranty on xbox.com is ?75. Over here thats about the price of a recently released 360 game, but I'm not sure of the prices elsewhere around the world.

Given what new consoles cost these days, definitely keep an eye on that repair price; it might be cheaper to buy a new Arcade model, install your old hard drive on it, and use the license transfer gadget [http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/] they have on the Live web site to re-register all your downloads to the new console. (Be advised that the transfer widget only works once every 12 months, though, so make certain there's no issues with the new console before running it.)

Yeah, that's definitely an option - I'd quite like to have a console with a HDMI output, so that I can free up the component inputs on my TV.

Wow, how much does a console repair out of warranty cost in your region?

I honestly don't know... I haven't checked, seeing as mine is still under warranty. It's just that console prices keep dropping... eventually the two will meet, especially considering shipping.

Seeing that the last master race scored only 12/1000 (years that is) you might want to mitigate your enthusiasm.

I had a dream last night that I bought a Xbox 360. Then I didn't have money for games ;__; Then I got paranoid about the RROD.
But that's irrelevant.
Microsoft tend to replace stuff like that.
Also, my brothers have owned an xbox since december 2003, it broke a month later, it got replaced and it still works.

I got my 360 the first day it came out in america. After about 6 months of having it I got the RROD. I played through COD3 (all of the russian mission). It went out on me after I turned it off to take a leak. I forgot to check my gamer score (Currently 20,611). So I turned it back on and thats when it started shining. I sent to the repair center. Got it back three weeks later. But when I got it back I could not go online. Also all the games I purchased online reverted to trial versions. So microsoft had me send in that console and they gave me my 1600 microsoft points back. Then less than a year later the 2nd replacement consoles disk tray was acting up. Lucky it has the pin hole underneath the tray. I sent that one back got a new back and have not had any problems with it since. Knock on wood. And they gave me a new wireless controller with that one.

I just thought I'd update the current status of my 360 adventure. Yesterday I contacted Microsoft about getting my console repaired, and today I looked in the post and there was my UPS label/sheet/whatever you want to call it. This is most impressive, since most of my friends had to wait at least two weeks for theirs. Things are on the up :)

You're what... 12, 13? any older and you need to do a serious life check.
Talking about "The master race" and adding "tard" to the end of words is pretty childish.

Yes a high end all bells and whistles pc with all the drivers mantained and up to date will beat most consoles and any time
when it comes to graphics. It should do because you made it that way. Thats like saying a custom made hot rod is better than
an off the assembly line car.

Even then p.c's can still corrupt data, need hours of time invested to sort out software conflicts or just plain die.

Some of us like the ease and low cost of a console. We buy a disk, put it in and play.
If it goes wrong return to maker. If it's out of guarantee, get a new one.
It's not like they're overly expensive in the first place.
