The general consensus by everyone important is that violent videogames make people violent, correct?
That's a bit glib, and effectively it is incorrect. While there is a camp that does believe that, there is also the belief that video games, TV, movies... passive movies violent or not establish unusual physical scenarios that result in aggressive and hyper active behaviour, there is a camp that believes that video games do not alter psychology significantly enough one way or the other (this is the media unfriendly "general consesus" that people rarely think about) and there is a pretty large camp that believes violent people are predisposed to playing violent video games (as you move on to suggest):
It's seems like a sound theory right? Well isn't it much more likely that violent people play violent videogames instead?
It's adorable how you think you're on the cutting edge, the primary issue in the debate over the psychological impact of violent video games is that of causality, are people violent before or after they play violent video games.
Think about it, instead of sating your insane thirst for blood again and leaving more evidence, you play a violent videogame.
And other examples of word combination that make no sense. when did I sate my thirst for blood the first time? And what is this about evidence? Are you saying as a normal person if I committed a violent act I wouldn't play violent video games as they are evidence of my overtly violent nature? That is what I came up with, but that's dumb, so I'm guessing you were trying to say something else.
Killing fake people as a normal person wouldn't make you more aggressive, it doesn't make sense
The thing is it makes perfect sense, it is quite a reasonable assumption to make, and a lot of money and time has been spent checking the veracity of just that claim, so I'm not sure how you can justify it not making sense
but an insane person killing fake people might have thoughts, or ideas, they might want to kill more.
This is a common argument for people who propose game banning and censorship. i.e. Even if it has little impact on average citizens if it impacts and drives those predisposed to violence to violent acts isn't that reason enough to keep these games off the market shelves? Violent media does not provide cathartic release, but it reinforces violent psychology, proven fact, it is the reason child pornography, even cartoon depictions of child pornography, are illegal.
So what side of the fence are you on?
Mull this over, argue, I'll be back.
and that's an entirely inane way to end an OP, don't do that anymore.
