No, it's a lot worse. Why should we kill like this? What if out of those 1000 people 999 of them are some form of criminals from murders/rapists to petty thieves and stuff. And the one person that dies is the good person. It's just stupid, you could have a saint die and a murder live. I disagree with this system entirely for that simple reason

I like the thing they did in fight club where they threatened to kill that storekeeper.

Someone should go around doing that.

In my high school graduating class we had 4 people die and there were only 800 of us, I don't think that the death of some random stranger is going to effect your life other then to be glad it wasn't you.
How about a society based on a moral code developed in ignorance as to your position. For example a system of race relations where you don't know your race until after you've made the rules, or a distribution of wealth where you don't know which side your on.

Dude have you not seen Battlestar Galactica? People will never ever value a human life besides their own. You can't force it on people in any way, shape, or form. It will always backfire.

How do random, senseless acts of violence encourage a greater appreciation of life? You must live in a different world than I do, because I'm pretty sure we already know this is the opposite of the truth.

Well, your idea sounds better than RANDOM DEATH!!

This would be better in theory, but there'd be no way that this scenario could ever happen. I mean, here's a question right back to you: would YOU allow your child to get that injection? I sure as hell wouldn't.

People would Rightly Decapitate the members of any Government so Cruel as to Kill off Much of it's Population just because of some Waked-up theory.

Seriously, Increase Value In Human Life?
If Existence is simply be Wiped out at Random, than that would decrease Peoples Value of Life, "If Human Life is so meaningless that my Government finds it Right to Kill vast Swathes of Good Men and Women, then, Seriously, why bother Improving Society if My sons and Daughters may be Killed for My Efforts."
Arg, so much caps. It's like your entire post is a movie title or something. Either way, it hurts to read. While it's better than seeing no fullstops, comma's, or capitals at all, it's nearly as bad.
OT: This could either end well, or terribly. Either we all realise that we need to make the most of the time we have and all work harder, or we all realise that we could die by some arbitrary government policy tomorrow, and so go out to create some good old fashioned anarchy.

It's pretty much the same.

You could die any day; car accident, disease, and many other situations that are unforeseeable. It might make some people feel compelled to try and live more fully, but most probably won't think about it.
You COULD die any day, and in spite of the fact that we all know this on some level none of us really think about it. At a mere .1% of the population being knocked off by this injection I suspect people would react in the same way they do about heart attacks and car wrecks in the use (which kill about 1/5 of my countrymen when combined) - you'd assume it won't ever happen to you.

I have been reading something lately and in it, to increase the way humans value life, every year kids before entering school are given an injection. In each 1/1000 injections there is a capsule that will kill the person between the age of 18-24. After passing the age of 24 you are safe and will live for the rest of your life. 24 hours prior to your death, you are given a notice and your family is also compensated. Thus by killing off 1 out of every 1000 people, people work harder and try to read more fulfilling lives knowing it might be them. The person will never know until the notice comes and the rest of the people won't know until the person has died. Now my question for you is, what do you think of this society? Is it one that works better or worse than current ones?
Looks like someone's been reading Ikigami.

A cookie to you good sir

I found it interesting how the society works in it with people agreeing to this method. Also I don't like/hate this, like I said it was interesting.

It's also kind of similar to Logan's run, only with a random element.

Because there would be a chance I would be the one with it. In fact, I would probably spend my childhood fearing and hating the government, then form a rebellion group of teens who object to this system to rise up and take control. Or something.

Gruesome.
Why would you force every person in that society to basically go through what anybody who pricks themselves on a needle or has unprotected sex thinks, but not only for a few weeks but 24 years?!
No.
Let people live their lives the way they want to. If that means wasting their time (like, posting on an internet forum), let them!

It's really good and actually visit's this scenario. In fact it's a big part of the story

Well again the capsule wont kill you for at least 18 years.
