Wow. I have even received a warning about this one.

Escapist member sees 'To those who have played X' thread. Said member hasn't played X. Said member proceeds to post something in the nature of 'I haven't played it and I don't plan to because...'. Doesn't contribute anything whatsoever.

I find that extremely annoying, posting if you have nothing to say. Why do that ? If you are so thirsty to watch your post meter go up, find a topic you are interested in.

Or better yet, create one.

I'm all for the complete removal of post-counts.

All this furore about post counts? Really?

Surely you must have seen the "50,000 posts! Yay me!" threads bouncing around?

Yes but you do rank people and use that number as a yard stick to see if their opinion is of worth.
It doesn't really make a difference, some people will talk trash and some people will know what they're talking about and a figure under their avatar doesn't represent that.
Determining the difference is what salt is for :)

I would have to say the recent bumper crop of platform war threads, particularly the PC vs Console variety. All they ever turn into is people insulting each other due to a preference or what they view as being superior. It usually gets really out of hand on both sides.

Okay, here's my gripe. In some situations, this would be major, but because it's not my primary method for Escapist-ing, I think it balances out to minor.

Posting on the Escapist forums from my smartphone is a pain in the ass, even moreso than doing anything else on my smartphone. Why?

Two things:

First, I can't adjust my screen so that I can see the entire reply window while I type; it always auto-zooms my screen so that I can see about 70% of the reply box. This wouldn't be much of a problem, but the scrolling doesn't follow my cursor correctly. I always wind up looking at the beginning of my sentence and having to type the end of it completely blind, or vice-versa.

Second, when I try to place my cursor by tapping the screen, it always puts my cursor somewhere completely random. If I mistype a word, and don't catch it right away, I have to tap my screen like a hungry woodpecker trying to get the cursor in the right place so I can fix it and not look like my cat walked across my keyboard.

Oh yeah, and all the sidebar ads are too processor intensive for my smartphone to handle. Whenever I try to watch a video, it chugs like crazy because my phone is too busy trying to play a completely irrelevant ad video running in the sidebar, even if I go fullscreen.

I think you're putting far too much emphasis on post count.

In fact, I think it's rather insulting that you think the only reason anyone knows who I am is because I have a high post count.

I wondered how long he could hold on while snarking on people. Funny, but it only was his avatar having a smarmy smirk that actually annoyed me. As a general rule I don't feed Those Who Live Under Bridges people who try to poke others into losing their tempers.
I'm actually a little upset over this......I came back from my suspension my forum buddy is gone :(

I think I do take some issues with the......"rules"....I supose

Where on earth did you pull that gem from?
All I can imagine now is some kind of "haters gonna hate thing", it really isn't that.
Well if you complain about something to everyone then everyone is eventually going to be interested in what you're complaining about. If I was a normal user who didn't know who Aylaine was but they amount of times she was mentioned in the Community Awards this year and for the community spotlight thread, I would wonder who she was and go look her up and then she would have another person who knew who she was to make her "famous"

They are just posters who, if anything, exemplify what every other forum member should aspire
Riiiiiiiight.

In some cases yes and in some cases please god no, the usual crowd derailing threads is bad enough.
Nobody is perfect and nobody is going to love everybody at the end of the day. But they are posters with the ability to gain thousands of posts without getting banned and still have a presence on the forums. Whether you don't agree with how they do it or not doesn't really matter. They get posts, people know who they are, they don't break rules. I'm fine with all of that.

The Xcom bottom advertisement is so annoying. >_<

1. The "close" button is tiny, rather easy to not click on. The fact it is only the X and not the "close" part itself is also furstrating.

2. It is unclear how large it is. The part that is a link actually goes up to where the close button is, meaning if you leave it up, you will go to click something towards the bottom of your screen only to be dragged to the X-com site.

3. When you close it, it send you up to the top of the screen, both disorienting and doesn't make much sense.

All I can imagine now is some kind of "haters gonna hate thing", it really isn't that.

Of those 4 celebrities I could only justify one and yes even Alyaines sunshine and smiles really annoyed me sometimes because it seemed like she was trying just that little bit too hard, but that's me after all and I'm a tad cynical.
She was actually doing something nobody had really done before and it promoted a positive wave across the forum, we even got a new section because of it.
A round of applause was justified for her.

The rest of them?
Do remind me of their stella contributions other than being in the post count pumping station known as forum games?
The rest of the time it's spent derailing threads with their friends and it is really irritating to watch it go on and on.

NeonBob actually made great posts outside of the Forum Games when he did show up but there was always half a page of "spot the neonbob" crap.
Every time, thaaarr she blows.
This post is more a reply in general to things you've said over this thread, I'm just too lazy to go through and quote you in sections.

We get it, you don't like me, Daystar or anyone else who's conceived to be "popular" because it apparently allows us to get away with stuff here. But just because we're "popular" doesn't mean we're above the forum rules. Daystar himself has three hits to his name right now and I've had two which were removed due to a broken health bar. And if I were to call you a **** right now, do you honestly think I'd get away with just because I'm "popular"? No, I wouldn't. I can prove it to you if you wish, I'm willing to take the hit to prove we're not all up the Mods asses and they're not up ours. Because it's fucking bullshit. We'd get mod wrathed whether we were popular, unpopular, loved, hated or just a normal poster.

As for the contribution thing, yeah, I've made next to no contribution here. You want to know why? Because I like having fun. That's why 50K+ of my posts have been made in FGs and User Groups, so I don't clutter the forum with the worthless jokes, friendly insults and random shit that fills the majority of my posts. When I'm on the forums, in OT, GD and User Reviews, I try to be serious but if someone quotes me and tries to have fun, yeah, I'll respond to it. If this makes me a "derailer" in your eyes, so be it, I'll continue to do it because it's fun to goof around with friends, at least for me. And tell me, while we're talking about contributions, what contribution have you made to the forums? What have you done here to actually make anything you've done worthwhile? I'll admit, I've done fuck all to contribute to the forums apart from a couple of user reviews, but what have you personally done to make you think that you've contributed to the forums and the "popular" users haven't? Unless you've made a new sub forum like Aylaine or had some content published by the escapist itself, you've done the same as me to contribute around here.

And Timelord is right. By going on about this, you ARE making the "celebs" more popular.

And, just in general, not just to you Lyri, I'm glad we're doing this horrible cycle all over again because it was so much fun the last time this fucking bullshit happened with Furburt and my user group, which were accused of the exact same things people have been mentioning here. ¬_¬

[sup]Also sorry for bumping this thread but...yeah, I'm fed up with this shit and want to address it.[/sup]

Hey, that is NOTHING.
I had a "400 posts! Yay me"-thread going.
But I am unsure if that makes me a bad person or if it counts as "irony", thus automatically being elevated to the highest ranks of internet comedy.

Even though most of you will disagree with me, I think .gifs for avatars are stupid. They are distracting me from reading your post.

Yeah that's kind of why I don't post half as much as I used to - I just get spam attacked with quotes of people telling me just HOW DAMN WRONG I am -_-

The way that the warning system works is probably my biggest problem.

Unless you go offline for six months, you are slowly going to work your warnings up. it definitely needs reworking. I mean, a guy could be banned for having 8 low-content posts as it stands.

Do you have any evidence for that? you are clearly avoiding the issue, do you even know what we are meant to be discussing? How stupid and ignorant do you have to be? People have every right to disagree with you, you must be mentally ill to try and stop them!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Although I would like to add that certain escapists love to constantly refer to straw men and no true scotsman and various other fallacies because fallacy is a fancy word their english teacher taught them that makes them sound smart.

That would imply that he/she did not regard their first strike seriously. If something is against the rules, but you keep doing it, then you will get banned. It only gets to that point if they either do not care about the rules, or simply can't abide by them. In my opinion, 8 chances are enough so long as you follow the rules.

How would you change it though? :)
I honestly have no idea, but I had warnings from really minor things that just haven't gone away because I made a low content post, or called somebody out on being a troll, so now I have 3. Yeah, I shouldn't have made those posts in the first place but people (especially me) make mistakes. Even if there was just a seperate meter for minor infractions that could only result in less severe punishment. I just worry that I'm working my way towards a slow but certain suspensions/ban.

Many people (including myself) have gotten into suspension territory and modified their behavior in response. I think the system works for those who really care to remain a voice in the community and it's really not all that difficult to follow the rules if you become familiar with them. The staff has actually mentioned that they are discussing a change to the "Low Content Post" policy in-house... the only rule I personally think needs a rework.

Stop being so dishonest, you are cleary avoding the issue at hand, so please if you will not address the issue at hand in a direct argument and continue lying, you clearly prove yourself to have the smaller e-peen.
Sorry Mortai-fans, too soon?
