I'm a huge horror junky, I just love the feeling of being scared, but recently I haven't been able to find a game that actually scares me.

I've played through Amnesia, wich was decent. I just recently bought FEAR 3, and that was a lot of fun, just not too scary at all.

So, Im asking for your suggestions on what game I should play to truely scare me, or atleast give me the creeps.
I have a 360 and a decent computer, but I prefer the console.

Amnesia:The Dark Decent...oh wait you already played it. Well then maybe Fatal Frame 2 for the original Xbox (I once played it on my 360 so I know it works)

You didn't mention if you played Fear 1 and 2, and if you have you may as well disregard what I say.

But I think the first two are quite scary (from what I've heard), I heard Fear 3 is just blood and gore.

I would recommend the first Condemned game, not the second though. It's aged a bit since 2006 but it's still one of the best horror/thriller games out there to date. Also, you should pick up Alan Wake. While it's not a horror game per se, it does give you the severe feeling of vulnerability and legitimately creeps you out. Just don't expect any 'jump' scares as neither are really that type of game.

There are a few, but I would still recommend going to older, better titles such as Silent Hill 2 and 3, Fatal Frame games, The original Clock Tower, Eternal Darkness et cetera.
For modern games, I'd say play the first condemned game, the first F.E.A.R, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the Prenumbra games and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games.

While Alan Wake was a good game, didn't the gameplay basically destroy the horror element? The first two chapters or so were incredible, but you stop coming across new enemies, you get used to the forest environment and the camera points out the enemies whenever they appear anyway.

Dead Space series maybe? You didn't mention them. The first is much more scary than the second. The second, I'd say has too many badass moments to keep up the tension constantly, and often times in Dead Space 2 the tension is more frustrating than scary. Probably due mostly to level layout (the first, you were about 99% of the time in a confined corridor, slim walkway, or small, dark room with lots of obstacles that hamper your escape. The second is a lot more varied, and you can usually see the enemies coming a mile away). But if you wanna try that, the first is only twenty bucks, and there are demos for both on the Xbox 360 that I know of.

After that, I can't think of any other good modern games that I'd define as "horror". Definitely not the likes of Resident Evil 4 or 5. Its been disappointing, not much being out there. I think Extra Credits did an episode on it already.

Edit: Yep, they did.

I'd say Metro 2033, even when nothing was happening, it was buildup for what was just about to happen, at least in my opinion. The whole game was creepy, and the tactics the Ai used was scary, at one point I saw them, but the ran into the shadows, then attacked me when I walked past. Its the type of scary that makes you on edge the whole time.

Alan wake, just make sure to go through on hard first time round. Normal makes things far too easy to survive. Pick up the dlc if you can, because things really step up to a whole new notch of plain disturbing in those chapters.

Condemned criminal origins is, quite frankly, terrifying. Scream out loud terrifying, in fact.

I would also say dead space, but it isn't really scary. Frantic, pulse pounding, and unrelenting? yes. In that sense, it's scary. But beyond jumps and frenzied attacks by numerous necromorphs at once, it's not truly the kind of scary you seem to be looking for.

I'd go with Condemned, and maybe even Condemned 2 (which wasn't as scary on a whole, but a few sections were just extremely intense), and definitely Metro 2033. That game can get quite scary on more than a few occasions, masterful use of atmosphere.

Call of Cthulu : Dark Corners of the Earth.

Know what a Shoggoth is? You have to fight one.

It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train?a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter.

Oh, and guns? Really just annoy them.

Don't look to F.E.A.R. for a scare. It's more of an action-shooter series than a horror series. I'd suggest looking at mods, first. The modding community seems to have a... thing... for horror.

To start, I'd suggest the mod "<a href=http://www.moddb.com/mods/afraid-of-monsters-dc>Afraid of Monster: Directors Cut" for Half-Life. The dev team really got the whole idea behind good horror down. And, though it isn't out yet, "<a href=http://www.moddb.com/mods/cry-of-fear>Cry of Fear", which is being dev'd by the same team, is looking REALLY good too.

If you are just looking for a main-stay game, I'd look into Metro 2033.

Amnesia The... oh. Bugger.

I suppose you could give Condemned: Criminal Origins a try. It has its moments.

Deadly Premonition is a good one, but it's a bit of a divider like...marmite...it seems to be a love or hate thing. It's a mix of detective work in a small town, and horror sequences in various creepy places. It's certainly worth a try, especially if you want something a bit different.

Silent Hill 2 is THE definitive Survival Horror game.
If you can play it through alone, with the lights off, and not be scared, then you're my hero.

Haunting Ground (PS2)

Silent Hill 2 (PS2)

Silent Hill 4 (PS2)

Hotel 626/Asylum 626 [http://hotel626.com/] (Flash-based browser games)

Project 0/Fatal Frame (Xbox)

Eternal Darkness (Gamecube)

That's all I can think of right now, sorry.

Please also note that you need to set your computer's clock to some time after 6pm and before 6am for you to be able to play Hotel 626 or Asylum 626. You also need to have a working webbed and mic as these are required for some of the interactions.

To be honest, I wish they released this on the Xbox Live marketplace for the Kinect.

I have a 360 and a decent computer, but I prefer the console.

Well, we're current dealing with something of a shortage of decent horror games. I personally suspect it's due to concern over ratings. Generally speaking horror by definition is a negative thing, and very few people actually LIKE to be scared or creeped out, even retroactively. That means the audience is limited to begin with, add to it that a lot of "mundanes" get upset when they see offensive horror material and that concerns companies. Given that good horror (for all comments otherwise) involves not only atmosphere but graphic violence and sexuality... especially in a visual medium like movies or video games (implication is easier in writing) there is that whole issue as well.

That said, you have basically TWO options for a recent horror game on the 360.

#1: "Alan Wake", it's an interesting game with some neat ideas, it has some creepy moments but never really gets into full blown scary. It's also far more of an action game than a real survival horror game, and very linear. I was disappointed in what was produced as opposed to what could be, but it's still a fairly solid title that was underrated due to not meeting the hype.

#2: "Deadly Premonition", this game defines "cult classic". I'm something of a fan of this game, despite the fact that by all rights it should be horrible. Graphics that wouldn't have been great last generation, awkward combat, and perhaps the worst driving mechanic ever produced in a game. That said the premise, plot, and even a lot of the voice acting is excellent. What's more it *IS* a sandbox horror game with a lot of abillity to free roam, much like what Alan Wake promised but never delivered on. The amount of content almost excuses the graphics, as it's really the only game of it's kind... and as Zack will tell you, it has some interesting twists, including the ending. :)

Other than that I don't think your going to find much in the way of recent horror titles for the 360. On the PC you have more options, but a lot of the games I think are decent are older titles.

I'll also say "Silent Hill: Homecoming" isn't as bad as a lot of people will tell you, they experimented with some new elements (like a tougher protaganist) and for the most part it seemed to work, but it was differant from other productions, and a bit disapointing to people who literally wanted "more of the same" including the older engines.

On the PS-3 there are things like "Siren" but you apparently don't have that system.

On the bright side, "Silent Hill: Downpour" is due out for October, but I'm not holding by breath.
