A very "Japanese" indie game on Steam? I'm confused.

So the game Recettear will be coming out soon on steam. I would describe this game as a cross between Harvest moon (but you run a shop not a farm) and a Diablo esque dungeon crawler, with an anime aesthetic. This game has a very Japanese feel with the anime art style and Japanese only voices (at least in the demo). For good reason because this is the first time a Japanese indie developer has put a game up for sale on steam.

Now I plan on buying this, cause I like those kind of games. But perhaps I have a misconception but most of the kind of people who play games like TF2 aren't the ones who play games like Disgaea. It's true that steam is a HUGE system, but I don't see many games like this on there.

That being said I hope it does well, because as said earlier I like this kind of game (yeah I'm partially a weeaboo, don't hate me). And if it works out Steam will get more of them.

Here's a link to the game if you wanna see it,

Steam is just a store. They sell practically everything. Being surprised about something Japanese on Steam is like being surprised about something Japanese at Gamestop.

What you say is indeed true. But I ask you to name another game with this "feel" that's not from a major Japanese developer that is being sold on steam.

If Disgaea came to steam I think I'd faint of awesomeness.
OT: I wouldn't be surprised at this, as it was only a matter of time, but I am happy about this. Now that it's been done, others will be more optimistic about following suit. That is, if enough people buy this game.

It seems like a good DS port to me...if i had the money i would get it...that and no anti-aliasing is the only thing stopping me.

I definitely hope the game does well. I mean, part of the reason digital distribution can be so great is that it tears down all the barriers that were stopping games being global in the first place. (except language, but that can be overcome in other ways) The more examples of games like this doing well in Europe and the US, the more likely other people will release their games more globally, which is win.

I've heard that term before "anti-aliasing", what does it mean?

Japanses items at Gamestop!? Unheard of!

Well maybe I should buy some then sell them at 130% of the base price.

What does it matter?

I hate Japanese games without exception, but this doesn't bother me in the slightest.

It would bother me if Steam was renamed to chibi-kawaii-desu-ne, but selling an obscure Japanese title? Nah. Who cares?

Google it...

That's what I'm going to do before I go play so TF2.

Good luck with THAT until you've levelled up a few times. Old men and girls will be laughing at your attempts to get them to go above 125% and 114%, respectively, and then you'll feel like a right idiot. :p

I did see your thread, and while the game in question is the same, the topic of discussion is different. Yours was about who was getting the game and general discussion on the game. Whereas mine is about the changes in steam as this being the first game of this variety to be put on steam.

It removes the stair like effect at the edge of objects..take a 800x600 image and show it on a 1800x1060 desktop the edges are not smooth...in the demo i played everything has this problem.

To be fair I play TF2 as well, I was just making a comparison between games that don't do well in Japan (FPSs) and games with a very Japanese fell (like Disgaea).
