I don't think there's anything wrong with religion itself, where you get problems is when the members of a religion try to restrict others rights or impose their own religion on others. Basically, you get problems when you impose your beliefs on others.

I think a world without this religious imposing would be a beautiful and happy place.
But I think a world with no religion may be missing something.

Of course, you really can't religion without someone imposing their beliefs on others.

i think it would be more scientificly evovled, yet a dull world because religon cause the renessaince painting and the reformation, so it would be very dull and not as cultural.

Something would fill the gap. Faith is innate in human beings, so in a way that makes the question impossible. As for scientific suppression, you only suppress so much for so long so I can't see the advances being all that far ahead of our umm reality. It may(emphasis) be crazy immoral and unethical (that is subjective) though.

Religion does provide a simple answer to many things we have yet to understand. So we would have been terribly frightened and confused back in the early years. But if say tomorrow there was no religion then...well I suppose we'd just go about our business and normal

Exactly. The human race has to have stories to explain the unknown.

If I were the leader, I would say the stars and sky were our huge blackened and burned God, and the stars little cuts on him. Our mythology would include a hero who tries to sew the cuts together, and save the god from the blackening burns.

People are just intolerant of differing opinions and beliefs. The world would be exactly the same, as people will find something else to disagree over and go to war for.

Ah, but do the Abrahamic religions not teach about "spreading your seed"?

Genocides that happened 3/4 of which probably wouldn't have happened.
Hitler not nearly as powerful.
Great architectural, artisitc, and scientific achievements to glorify god probably wouldn't be built.
Great architechural, artisitc, and scientific achievments would probably have happened sooner or come about.( it works both ways if i'm looking at history the right way.
Wars of the ages would be decreased.
Less charity in the world and morals possibly.
and.... fps's uncensored in Germany and playboy for any age in America.

that seems.... fair with a neutral swing in all but i could be wrong.
Hitler's rise to power had next to nothing to do with religion, it was about ideology and getting back at those damned French for the treaty of Versailles and the Ruhr valley humiliation.
German's were pissed in General but Hitler more or less was powered by religous zealoutism. A state needs an enemy that is the devil, jewish people helps motivate them in to taking jewish property which helped finiance the war and partial reason to tell the people why they needed to invade other countries to wipe out an unclean race based on there religon more than anything. They also wanted to spread the thought of a supreme race which made every german want to be aryan, aryan being based off race but more than anything i think it was connected to religon. Every ruler uses god as a reason, just look at every modern decleration of war most say that a higher power we'll kick the other guy's ass. I think that the German people would have given up like in WWI, before a real invastion of Germany, if not for religon driving them on. (just an opinion)
But the Jews are an ethnic group of their own, so it wasn't necessarily based on religion. Also, remember that they weren't the only ones the Nazis "cleansed".

The Nazis based the concept of a "superior race" on a flawed view of genetics, and a will to better the German nation through Eugenics.

Last, did the German people not have religion in WWI? The reason they surrendered was to avoid more losses in the face of inevitable defeat. The Nazis didn't surrender when they reached that point because of ideology, and high command's fanatical devotion to the führer, who didn't want them to ever surrender.

EDIT: for a summary, ideologies are not religions.
But through his political and religious reasoning he established in 1933, a German Reich Christian Church, uniting the Protestant churches to instill faith in a national German Christianity.

Future generations should remember that Adolph Hitler could not have come into power without the support of the Protestant and Catholic churches and the German Christian populace.

quote from, http://www.nobeliefs.com/hitler.htm

I'm gonna tell you the facts look like he came to power with religon whether or not he cared more about his political power or religous belief. Seems as tho mein kampf had a lot of religous fanatsicm that influenced the german people. They had religon in WWI but they didn't make the war a religous thing it was a political gamble that as forced on them by the system of alliances, theywanted to go to war but not with the whole goddamn continent(as my teacher would say). WWII was getting back like you said but also they were infuenced to keep fighting by HItler and the beliefs he instilled in the German people. They would have given up when the allies started invading but they kept being pushed to fight by those beliefs, partially religous. I'm not saying that Hitler wouldn't have come to power at all with religon but it played more than a small part in his rise and WWII.
He didn't use religion to come to power though, he used it to control the masses.
as some one who loves to study world war two i think (this is only an opinion) that even if he didn't have relgion he still would of found another way, politics and dictators dont care about their belifes, but more about what get the masses to belive in THEM, he would of found another reason to excute any possible threat to him, he was just that smart and manipulative. He would of used somthing about pride like, We have been defeated and shammed by the world, we must show them that the german people can't be scewed with. Also he would of found another type of race to base his hate apon, i mean like he did the jews, he was very racist but no one hears about a concentration camp for all blacks. for the first part of the war he had africa

Now don't get me wrong here, I'm as anti-theist as it gets, and would love to see an end put to religion. That said, there is good reason to believe that religion was actually quite helpful for the original establishment of society, so if there had never been religion, we might never have had a society to start with. However, religion has served its purpose, and one can not help but feel that if it now took the opportunity to leave the stage, the play would be completely better for it.
This is probably one of the most well organized points against religion.

Being a deist, I believe that Seth McFarlane was largely in the wrong about religion being at fault for everything bad in past millenia. I think that, as in nature, time doesn't leave gaps; everything has its own niche. When a niche becomes open, you can be sure it'll get filled quickly. So what if religion hadn't been around? I can totally see Libyans fighting sentient ostriches over their different types of data collected that support their own Unified Theory.

If you want a real honeydewdle of a melon scratcher (cookie for reference), I suggest you read the Neanderthal Parallax.

Let me put it this way, if I was atheist, I wouldn't have any morals. Without morals, I would be a serial killer. The only thing that keeps me from killing tons of innocent people is my religion.

it would be a world without half the forums being religion based.

ok, other then me being less of an asshole, there would probably be a little more suicide, as some people who are thinking of sucide go to religion for help.

snipped hope that you get that email wake up thing. If he used religon to control the masses then he took power from it. He also recieved support from the christian church when coming to power like the paper said.

In my humble opinion, a world without religion would be a world without hope. It would most likley have fewer wars, which would obviously be a good thing. But, it would also be quite depressing to not have anything to look forward to after death.

It is unfortunate that science was (still is) suppressed. I personally fail to see why science and religion cannot live in harmony.

Wow one step closer to enlightenment and peace. Religions can go and fuck themselves. People wake up! A God? Wtf!? Why not just believe in a fucking teacup! Or a flower! Or a stripperpole! We need an Awakeaning, for people to wake the fuck up. We've already had an enlightenment. That was when people started thinking for themselves, when they realised that the Greek philosophers had already discovered the truth a thousand years before the renaissance.

Question everything! Use Aristotle logic! Remember logic! Dear oh dear, more and more people are becoming religious and I'm scared. Fanatics who can do whatever they want, why? Quoting them "because God said so" is their excuse. That's it... That's all the reason they need to harass, bully, kill, molest, whatever. Fuckheads. I feel like the only sane ************ on this beautiful planet

Methinks it would be about the same-ish. Probably alot more downer-ness abounding.
