A year in the life of an Escapist

Just celebrated my third year not too long ago. I've been a member of several gaming sites and used the forums on all of them. There may be an abundance of Valve fanboys and the occasional asshat does come by, but this is still the best gaming forum on the 'net.
Still, it's not quite it used to be. A lot of the regulars from two-three years ago have long since gone. Good folks. The site's gotten bigger too. It used to be that the only reason you'd stop by is because of Yahtzee and the articles every Tuesday. And back then, the mods were relentless. There were very few threads without anyone being modded. They're still stricter than most, I'd say, but I'd also say that's a good thing. We've got good mods and good content. And speaking of, I've gone all three years without the mods touching me.
The Escapist has gotten bigger too. It used to be that it seemed like everyone knew the thread archive inside and out. If you posted anything even remotely like a thread that had already been done, the users would be on you like buzzards to a fresh kill. Redoing threads is frowned upon, but you can get away with it a lot more these days.
Anyway, that's my Escapist grandpa moment. I don't know why I felt like I sharing that much, but I did. Happy anniversary, man. We're glad you're here to enjoy it with us!

Gah lucky. I already have 4 and I agree with either 1 or 2 of the infractions. I got a low post content for something that was obviously a joke. A guy said I hate when people say *word i dont remember* and so I responded with that one word. I thought I'd get yelled at for trolling not for a low content post. Ah well. After a while I really came to the conclusion that this is the right forum for me, because of most of the reasons posters above me have shared. What got me to 'participate' more were the reactions to my second thread, not a single reaction deviated from my initial question.

While I'm not a veteran but I did lurk here alot ever since ZP posted the link from his Youtube video. None the less what made me coming back was the interesting topics and the banhammer (I for one glad to see them banning people who say "first" etc on video comments). This site is for civilize people, not a place to flame, troll, spam etc (it shows the site take pride in its standard which is good).

Still... considering I've finally got the "landmark" badge, I guess I'm an oldie too now...
I joined in 09 as a result of the Intense Shenanigans that is Yahtzee Croshaw, and i've been a member ever since visiting this community at my own house, so i dove head-first into the forums and now i post at least every week, but since i'm so dull and lifeless and without regular social interaction outside of College, I spend my free time on Xbox and Computer mostly listening to music. Sadly the people i've met here and on Xbox Live have been more frequent and friendly people than the ones I associate myself with in Reality.

I remember the first day I found out about this site. It was almost a year ago; the exact same day Extra Creditz got started. Ironically, I came here because of ZP. I do enjoy Extra Creditz though, almost more than I do ZP. It is a wonderful site, enough so that a few months later I became a member myself.

In my little distopia, i'm not allowed to share my opinions because they are constantly "Wrong". I come here where everybody can see that each person has thier own valid opinion and can express it without being bagged on.

Oh, I remember Dingo. The resident Sony fanboy of the site, and I was second in command. Everyone partied it up when he was banned, caused a bit of a hooplah with the mods I think. I had to take over as the "resident Sony fanboy" of the site, though I've gotten much less fanboyish.hazabaza1 said:
