Maybe Sonmi made her do math until she offered a cake for her freedom
Do you think he/she made her work out the correct angle to cut a cake for three people, but one of them is 20% more hungry than the other two, but doesn't like icing?

If so then Sonmi should be in the textbook writing business

I kind of feel that I wrote the question. But then, I don't know the answer. I think it's more of a philosophy issue than maths in any case. I mean, what is hunger? (I know what icing is.)

If you're a video game developer then it's probably a quantifiable stat and screw philosophy

If I were a video game developer the world would be a pretty sad place; I can only code (if you can call it that) in VBA. We might get a good game of 'highlight the correct cell', but I doubt we'll be playing Elite: Dangerous any time soon.

But we will still have people arguing over best cell to pick first and how their computer runs graphics to make their cells the prettiest. And as we all know, such arguments are what truly matters

I very much look forward to the first argument simulator for the Oculus. I imagine level 1 is just trying to debate human decency with Piers Morgan, gradually progressing to arguing about the theory of relativity with Einstein.

Here's an Excel-VBA game I wrote where you select cells to squish spiders... SpiderDrop.xls [https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/52800206/SpiderDrop.xls]

I haven't opened it (I will, but not while I'm on my work computer). Is one of the spiders Piers Morgan?

You're such a downer. Nevertheless, female and depressive recluse isn't exactly a top-notch combo either. I'd imagine they often end up in shitty relationships and worse off (with a couple of kids) afterwards. Also I'm not saying you aren't right.

I'm a lonely-ass loner like you, and I understand that mindset: even if I've been unlucky with all sorts of relationships I must have done a bunch of things wrong too for things to end up like they are. At this point "trying" feels like putting on a show, faking it so people stand you. Funny enough, unlike you I think highly of myself as company - I *would* date myself - but experiences tell a different story. How about changing that? It's a bit of a dilemma.

Generally speaking, anniversaries are seen as much more personal, and Valentine's Day seems to be enjoyed by people mainly because "it's a holiday in the middle of winter" with a social obligation attached to it.

I think people should just focus on how it can benefit them (discount candy/restaurant food/movies/chocolate/flowers), and not be upset about things that they can't control.

Bottom line is, it's here, it's not going away for a while, so you might as well try to not let it get you down.

/e: friend of mine used to call it "single's awareness day"

My Valentine's day was a little off-beat.

I came home from a weekend away to find the house empty. I then found a big metal tin of chloroform lying around.

She had signed me up for a credit card last week without asking me, so my first thought was she was pulling a Gone Girl on me, and was leaving a false trail of indicting evidence.

My wife finally gets home and explains she got it from her lab to use as a chic flower vase. She then gave me some flowers and chocolates, but they were the exact same type of flowers and chocolates that I then presented to her. My thinking was that though she hates valentines day, she still wants free shit, so instead of a rose I'd give her the chrysanthemums she'd actually like. Her thinking was that men never get flowers, but she didn't want to be a sucker who pays for valentines stuff, so she got me those too.

We rounded off the evening by watching Rick and Morty, and installing tinder on our phones so that we could laugh at the posing dude bros with bad pick up lines.

Oh, no, it's all basically the same. The declining influence and popularity of The Church and rising cultural homogenization thanks to the worldwide hollywood lobby will soon make all the major holidays into events of Togetherness, that may be taken part of by any persons regardless of religion, culture, sex, color, gender, region, sexual preference, or income class, that will be perpetuated ad infinitum by the production industry to peddle goods via the advertising mass media before a regular period of a freak consumption activity spike.

So bad jokes aside: It's a former catholic holiday that spread from the anglican west due to the entertainment industry and surplanted the native variations where ones formerly existed, often by just altering the date to match VD, or rooted themselves as a distinct imported holiday.

Yes, others, people who don't have the other(s) often become pissy during togetherness periods. It's not like unintentional or oblivious emotional harassment based on social bonds, or the lack of them, is anything new.

See I guess I am an oddity. I bought Flowers, Chocolates, Bath bomb with Jewelry in it, A League of Legends skin,Stuffed animal(Fox because we love foxes) Chocolate covered strawberries and a nice meal at our favorite Brazilian steakhouse, but I did none of those things for some vague promise of butt-sex(our butt sex tends to be a bit odd as far as roles anyway) heck we didn't even have normal sex it was just a nice excuse to spend more money to make a day extra special for the woman I love.

*shrug* Apparently I am doing it wrong?

This exact thread is an annual event on these forums.

Every Valentines day, without fail. You could set your watch by it.

Hey, it's not as if it was fun for me either.

Who am I kidding? I relish in any authority given to me, even if temporary.

And the cake was delicious.

I never gave much of a shit about Valentine's Day when I was single.
You weren't single for very long. Maybe after a lifetime it will become a day you'd rather not think about.
Though my point was kind of that single or not I've never really cared about Valentine's Day. It's mostly about chocolate.

Ezekiel said:
At least if I were a woman, like Phasmal, I'd get a man eventually, probably. I mean, I'm semi-intelligent and average looking. Almost all the expectations, including making the first move, are on the man. An average woman has so many options that she can even be ridiculously choosy. If you're male and a depressive recluse, you're screwed.
Uh... I'm gonna have to disagree with you here, though. It's not that women have super-high standards and men have basically none. That's just a stereotype. If that were true there'd be no single women who don't want to be single.

Still, I'm not gonna argue much about it, I get it if single people don't want to be single and are unhappy about it. But I don't like the hostility towards couples on valentines day. Like... I'm not close with my dad but I don't tell anyone who is to fuck off on Father's Day.

Father's Day is not aggressively pushed down the throats of people as Valentine's Day is, and having a bad relationship with your father is not as stigmatized as being single (in Ezekiel's case, perpetually single) is.

If you're alright with being single and don't mind Valentine's, then that's fair, but don't shame other people for their hostility towards the holiday.
