Who cares about World of Warcraft recreated in Minecraft? Gensokyo is a far more interesting and beautiful realm.
The drool that came out of my mouth when I first saw this project/video was enough to fill an entire ocean. One of the best 45 minutes of my life. I literally love the Minecraft community for things like this.

This isn't the only impressive thing made for Minecraft, certainly. But it's among the absolute greats. It's a litterally gripping video, and the recreation of Gensokyo is gorgeous beyond measure. The sheer possiblities for roleplaying and the like that things like this create... oh, I need to hurry up and join a server.

Just watch, just watch. It's art. Just like Touhou in general. And I suppose you can feel free to share your own amazing Minecraft creations you've found. This... this is godly though. And deserves its own topic. Actually, the Escapist doesn't talk about Touhou enough. I need a good website to talk about Touhou.

It's also not something super duper new. But the Escapist fails to talk about any of the good things so there's no topic already. Better late than never.

The sweeping bits through the forest. My head almost came off from all the shaking it was doing. That's probably the most impressive Minecraft creation I've seen - the scale is just unbe-frickin-lievable.

I, literally, have no idea what you are talking about.
Then you've just lost your right to ever play video games again.

I'll be taking your license to play video games now. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

:p

That's pretty impressive but I have absolutely no idea where it's from.

Are we all getting our licenses revoked, because I just renewed mine and that'll be a wasted 30 bucks. :\

I have no idea what that was, but it was hilarious. I love at the sweet bridge pan at the beginning. WOAH LOOK AT THIS EPIC BRIDGE!!! MAD SKILLZ!! lol. The music was a bit obnoxious.

The world itself is pretty impressive......but I've seen better. God server I think its called? Or something like that. Or even the Middle Earth recreation is more breathtaking than a few cities. I dunno, maybe I'm a sucker for complete scenery editing instead of just buildings.

I might have watched it if the OP had the decency to explain it. 45 minutes is a big investment. You need to sell the experience to us.

Y'all gotta be trolling if you're claiming you don't know what one of the biggest video game memes and subcultures ever is. You know, the one that makes the My Little Pony fandom look small and inactive by comparison.
Nope, genuinely no idea what it is. In fact you mentioning it is the first I've ever heard of it.

If this is true, and I still assert that I'm being trolled. Well... I didn't realize it were possible for my opinion of the Escapist to go any lower.

If you want to look up what it is, all the information is in this thread. Therefor I don't need to tell you anything more. It is arguable the most famous shooting game in the world. Or certainly one of them. And I am one of several million hardcore fans that have been following it religiously for probably around a decade or close to it.

I would think more people around here would know what Touhou is, but I guess not.

Not really a big fan of Minecraft or Touhou but this whole thing seems like an impressive feat.

Speaking only for myself of course but I can assure you I'm not trolling. I honestly don't know what it is.

Can't really be that famous if no-one around here has heard of it. You said it yourself that no-one around here talks about it - this is probably why.

I googled it guys, it's k. Here's a Cracked article on the subject - who doesn't like reading those?

Oh and OP, this the very start of the article:
Touhou Project is a series of Japanese Computer Games. You've probably never heard of it, but that's OK.

Seems like a pretty crazy fanbase though, so this Minecraft thing is nothing in comparison.

I've heard of it, but pretty much the only reason is that I read a lot of articles on TVTropes. As the cracked.com article notes, the fanbase isn't widespread so much as dedicated -- something the insane detail in that minecraft video serves to illustrate.

Wow. And a Japanese game about little girls firing lasers at eachother in 2D would be popular and often discussed outside your weeaboo forums... how, exactly?

I hate to break it to you, but this might not be as large a subculture as you think.

It is. The Escapist has just been living under a rock of Bioware and Bethesda games, apparently.
This is just one of dozens of Touhou fanmade videos that have multiple millions of views.

And no, it's not just fanvideos that get millions of views, gameplay videos get that many as well.

And the amount of videos that exist about Touhou alone, on youtube, probably reach into the millions.

Isn't Touhou a bullet hell arcade game? I never understood why the hell someone would make such an elaborate and convoluted backstory out of it.

And nice to see that anyone who doesn't know what you're talking about is a troll. Maybe you just need to lower your standards and realize not everyone shares the same opinion as you.
