I am also regularly dragged into debates of wether or not the moon landing was fake by my mom's boyfriend. because that conspiracy is his religion and he has found "new evidence". so yeah.
OT: Also on the topic of DnD, I've had debates with my brother who is a player. He is playing a Lawful Neutral Monk Chaotic Neutral. I was telling him that he cannot "Lewt teh bodies" without giving respects to the dead, because his character is a follower of Kelemvor.
I've also gotten into debates about at what point bread becomes toast in the toster. That's 2 hours of my life I will never have back.
I'm a member of the Uni debating soc and so I've taken part in some flipping odd debates. I once had to argue for 'this house would expatriate historical treasures from counties in political termoil' (which was, umm... it could have been better), however the worst debate I've done was this:
"This house would legalise beastiality".
And I had to ague for this motion. I kid you not.
But let me tell you, if you say something with enough convition it doesn't matter that you don't believe a work you're saying
Not debating soc odd debates with friends has included some flipping odd stuff, the most persistant debate is where exactly the 'north-south divide' is in the UK. According to Southerners the north is above the Watford gap, most Northerners think the south is below about Kendal, QED anything between Watford and Kendal is the middlands. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Thats what turned me off Uni debating societies...arguing for positions i didn't believe in, and by the sound of things you've ended up defending some pretty absurd stuff.
The N/S divide often comes up in general debate at my uni in Lancaster, and tbh i would agree with drawing the line at Watford Gap and i'm a northerner, coming from near Liverpool. Don't know who got the idea of the south being below Kendal, because that would put Liverpool, Manchester, Lancaster, Bolton, Leeds, Bradford, Grimsby and Hull not in the "north", which is pretty absurd given that they are some of the culturally "northern" English cities around.
I had a great argument where someone thought people chose to be gay, and when I asked him how he knew this, he stated that he had chosen not to be gay. The debate took an amusing turn after that.
I participated in a way too long debate with people on this forum claiming that 0 is not an even number and that .999 repeating is not equal to 1. You can't argue math, people.
I had a conversation with my friends yesterday about the possibilties of zombies, we all thought that living dead wouldn't happen but a virus like 28 days later was possible.
Then I brought up the Bible reference about revalations and the dead rising from the graves and we got into a conversation about the bullshit level of the Bible.
I have a buddy who loves to have randomly stupid debates. Most recent was whether or not Master Chief could take down a functioning first gen terminator. Before that, we argued about whether zombies could walk from one continent to the other through the oceans.
Of course they couldn't, the pressure under the ocean is about the same as carrying a hundred trucks on your shoulders. I'm pretty sure they would just fall apart.
The Zombies may fare better than you may think. The body is mostly incompressible fluid (water) and it's our lungs that suffer that deep underwater. If the zombies had empty lungs they could avoid being crushed so bad. Their bones may also get some damage but depending on the type of zombie and the extent of damage they may be ok with that.
I got into a debate with my friend over homeopathy. Not actually about the topic, but because he took a Facebook status I had made and use it to rant about homeopathy. The actual debate was about whether posting his opinion all over my status that had nothing to do with the subject of the opinion was the appropriate place for it.
He just kept telling me how homeopathy is terrible and kind of ignored the fact that I knew, didn't care, and just didn't want to hear him vomit his opinion on my status anymore.

The gasses from decomp could do that I guess. It would depend on what bacteria is present and if it can respire underwater I suppose. I think either way we can agree that it is not at all feasible for Zoms to get to you from the underwater even before we take into account deep sea trenches and the wildlife or currents taking them apart.
This is an ongoing one between me and several people, them all disagreeing with me. In 'Batman Returns' when Batman shoves that bomb on that guy and throws him down the hole, I maintain that he did not die. The shot cuts away and Batman is already walking away when it explodes, ergo time has passed. Not much admittedly but enough I maintain for the henchmen to have removed the bomb and possibly gotten out of the way of the main thrust of the blast. We don't know how deep the hole goes etc. So in conclusion, Batman HORRIFICALLY wounded and likely severely de-limbed that gentleman BUT did not kill him.
I have had quite a few interesting weapon based debates. Most recent is some fool saying overarm spear usage (like hoplites are depicted using) is better than underarm. Simply put, tis not for many many reasons.
I just did that too. Sigh....I used an example of something he could do.
OP: Yesterday, actually. Someone was arguing that all pedophiles should be put to death. I, of course, pointed out how insane that person sounded and deconstructed their argument. I was labeled a troll. I argued against genocide and was labeled a troll.
That one hurts my head.
Ah, but a Sabre is a sword and that is single edged.
Please, let's not do this. It can lead to nothing good.
Also, I just checked but this applies not only to the Sabre but also the Claymore, Katana, Cutlass and Scimitar and they are all undoubtedly not knives.
Was he home schooled? That is the only way I can think of that allowed his parents to keep it hidden that long. That is deplorable. There is censoring something, and there is hampering a person's ability to succeed later in life.
