Alright, I'm aware that the US has some rather (extremely) crappy broadband infrastructure, so I can see why you would want somewhat faster and cheaper, but bear with me.

Erhm. So my broadband-provider called today out of the blue and asked me if I was pleased with my current service (25mbit/sec for 29Ea month, around 38 USD or so). I confirmed that I was, and braced myself to ignore a pointless salespitch. Well, the pitch didn't come. Instead, the man in the phone said that they would be upgrading me to 100mbit/sec, four times as fast, if I just signed up on their website and confirmed.
"What's the catch?" I asked.
- "No catch, we're just upgrading our infrastructure and your apartment-building happens to be one of the first to have it installed. It's the same price as before.
" Uh, so 100/mbit a sec for 30E?"
- "Yes."
-" Okeeey..."
Holy crap, it's that fast in Sweden?! At home, I'm lucky to get 2 Mbps!

200mbits (i.e twice as fast as I have now, and eight times as fast as I had yesterday) if I just want to pitch in another 19E (25 USD).

2: Downloading stuff. I.e pirating stuff.
I stopped reading here. Don't assume every download is an illegal one. Or even every other download is illicit. People download plenty of large, legal files...a 100mBit[footnote]Can we stop advertising in fucking megabits sometime soon? We measure the speed, and discuss it, in megabytes per second, yet it's advertised as megabits, solely to confuse people.[/footnote] connection is an absolute godsend if your games drive crashes and you need to redownload 20+ steam games. Or, say you are subscribed to Netflix, there's a legal and fucking crazy intensive way to use such a connection.

Don't be derp.
Don't be rude?
As I clearly stated, the average person isn't a gamer, and won't be using Steam, not will the average person (as of yet) often buy ANY large file online, at least not where I live, where piracy is pretty everyday.
My point was that even for someone who want to "buy a movie online", 100mbit seems rather overkill, considering how rare it is.

1gbit/s for 899kr[101euro](a bit pricy but you can probably find it cheaper from other companies)

As I understand it, you update the infrastructure because you can, and hope that soon some new technology comes along that can make use of it...
Lol the technology's already here, OP's just doesn't get it.
Really? Then impress me, oh guru of the internet. What technology is there that the average user (not the minimal-part of the population that are avid gamers) need 100mbit for, instead of 25mbit, or even lower?
As I said, I could stream, download basic stuff and surf without a problem before I had 100mbit.
Netflix, Hulu, HD streaming, buying movies and shit off iTunes and similar, that sort of stuff.
Which works perfectly fine with the already large 25mbit connection, especially since the average user still isn't accustomed to streaming and prefers to watch TV (nor do they often buy movies.)

I personally know three people that has 1gbit and one of them got it included in his rent.

And my point is that it's stupid to assume everyone who wants a big connection is a damned dirty pirate. There's plenty of legit, non-gaming uses for such a connection, and I'd bet good money the majority of people who would want such a tube are perfectly legit with what they download.
Well, honestly, when it comes to the people I know (i.e young men and women), that is pretty much the only reason they would want it (gaming not included).
Sure, there are certainly those who DO use it for other reasons, but I just pointed out that the average use for the average user prooobably isn't buying a movie now and then, or streaming..

I am baffled what uses someone could necessarily see in a 1gig-line, but some people do like the best of the best, no matter if it is necessary (I have a similar friend, actually, but he games online).

Prejudice like that is why the majority of us have to put up with shit like SOPA. People assume EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET is a damned dirty pirate, guilty until proven innocent comes into play, and it's a huge clusterfuck.

Like I said, it's stupid to assume that everyone who wants that large a connection is a pirate. Just because your friends are pirates doesn't mean everyone else is.
No, not everyone, but as I stated: I am an avid online gamer, and I did just fine with my 25mbit line. More than fine, actually. It was smooth. I questioned that the hell an average, non-online gamer would ever need with a 100mbit line, especially since buying books, music and movies aren't that widespread, and ESPECIALLY since it seems to be fairly quick either way (though people do tend to complain no matter how short the timespan is).

Well all of them has backup/ftp servers and sometimes put up servers for games. The reason I would like to get 1gbit is simply cause I download a lot of stuff since I delete everything that Im not using and even with 100mbit it takes up to 15-20min to download big games.

Family member 1 streams Transformers 3 in HD. Family member 2 tries to play MW3 on XBL. Family member 3 just bought a lossless Metallica album off iTunes. Family member 4 then finds icanhazcheeseburger.com, and family member 5 decides it's a good idea to put an HD home movie on youtube so their extended family can watch.

Suddenly your 25mBit connection is as slow as dialup. 100mBit connection? Doesn't give a fuck, everyone's speeds are exceptional.
In a large family, it becomes handy, but most families, once again, haven't gotten that far.
Streaming isn't that widespread yet. Hopefully, though, it will.

Man it is what it is. Its not specifically for you, its for the benefit of the company because it allows them to upgrade their infrastructure, offer higher speeds to people who will use it like a family of 4 drawing off the same internet connection.

I am in the US and I had a family of 4 doing that off a 10 M/bps speed and honestly it was slow as hell because of everyone drawing from it at the same time. So just because you do not use it does not mean others in your building arent and havent been clamoring for a faster infrastructure for years. Your simply reaping the additional benefits.

as for usage... Its not about the speed of one single download. Its sort of like the effect of having 16gb of ram in a PC knowing that most programs wont be able to utilize more than 2gb of ram. Having the extra means you can do more things at the same time. So now, instead of focusing on one single download at a time, you can do a dozen downloads with little or no trouble.

Again, just enjoy it.
