AC Brotherhood Assassinates Ubisoft's Pre-order Record

Lots of people want to get their stabbity-stab on in Renaissance-era Italia. Who'd have guessed?

After a passable first installment in the series, Ubisoft knocked it out of the park with Assassin's Creed II, which was easily Assassin's Creed Brotherhood [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/events/favorites2009/6889-The-Escapist-Staffs-Five-Faves-of-2009-John] will be a worthy successor to AC2. Therefore, I am quite understandably looking forward to this game - and I'm not the only one.

According to Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood has "surpassed all other Ubisoft video game releases in worldwide pre-orders." That's a fairly big achievement, given that Ubisoft also publishes the popular Prince of Persia series as well as pretty much everything with the Tom Clancy name on it - including Splinter Cell.

"Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is being heralded by the press as a single and multiplayer experience unlike any other," said Tony Key, Ubisoft's senior VP of sales and marketing. "As evidenced by the record number of pre-orders and the success of the multiplayer beta, consumers can't wait to get their hands on Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and we're looking forward to delivering them an experience they'll never forget."

Ubisoft is almost certain to begin a full-court press with Brotherhood promotions in the next few weeks leading up to the game's release on November 16th. Its predecessor was awarded a Guinness World Record for being the game that appeared on the most magazine covers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100008-Assassins-Creed-2-Sets-Record-for-Most-Covers], after all.

Speaking of Brotherhood promotions, there's a new trailer out for the game - seen here to the right - that introduces us to the game's main antagonist, Cesare Borgia. Is it looking pretty awesome? You bet. This is one hype train on which I'll gladly ride for now.

I was under the impression this was just more of the same? I found Ass Creed 2 to be pretty boring, and just as repetitive as the first game. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it, although I must be close. I didn't know the game was held in such a high regard.

Worthy successor to Assassin's Creed 2? If they remove the online only DRM from the PC version, it would certainly earn that status. XD

Definitely. Assassin's Creed 2 is one of the greatest video games ever made IMO. This is coming from a guy that played a lot of games in his life. Too bad the PC version wasn't as good as the console version. If Ubisoft shows respect to PC community by releasing a properly optimized game without their insane DRM that would be great. It's a shame to make such an incredible game and to fuck it up with nonsense like DRM and poor optimization. It should be illegal in this day and age.

I didn't find Assassin's Creed 2 as repetitive as the first one. I'm a weirdo and I played the second game before the first and only went back to get the pieces of the story that I missed. I loved AC2. I've beaten it three times now, but I could barely bring myself to beat AC1 once. There was one part where I decided that I'd rather just quit, only continuing because I'm a persevering bastard. AC1 was definitely only a decent game, and that's if I'm in a generous mood, but AC2 was a great game in my eyes and the fun rarely ever stopped.

AC2 was easier to fuck around in, which gave it way more sandbox appeal. Also had a much tighter story that I was more than willing to stick with to the end. If Brotherhood can manage to be a little harder then I can see it being close to excellent as that was my only real problem with AC2.

I'm looking forward to this game but I'm afraid that they're moving further away from the stealth assassination aspects of the game. Many of the trailers show Ezio striding right into combat, something an assassin would never do.

I'd love to buy it.

Sadly I'm not buying anything from them so long as their stupidly obtuse DRM system is in place.

Dunno how the campaign will stand, but I'm enjoying the beta. There aren't many bugs, but there are a few things I'd like them to improve before releasing it.

To be fair, most of those fights were already in place, meaning that Ezio either:

1) Fucked up and was caught in the middle of giving somebody a new breathing hole.
2) Was insta-noticed for going into a place that nobody told him was restricted.
Or
3) Finaly got annoyed with the minstrels and jumped the noisy buggers.

Or maybe a guard noticed that the only guy with weapons just left the scene of 5 dead bodies.

EDIT: Nice avatar to the guy above me, btw.

Yeah, 4 more weeks to pay off the $150 Preorder! lol :D Buying it on PS3 for the first time in the series. Thoroughly enjoyed AC2, need to finish it asap. But I like the "sandbox" feel to it that was mentioned before coupled with the story. :)

It's a pity Ubisoft decided to delay the PC release of Brotherhood until next year. I would have thought that since they now have the experience of having the DRM system in place following AC2 and seeing how it performed, they'd feel more confident with a release on all platforms.
I hate waiting.
