Actually, listening to an Irishman on Xbox live costs about $160 American, or $1678 Canadian

It's the fact that it gets into your head. Accents are the easiest way to single someone out because you can't tell someone's skin color by their voice (mostly) and unless you hear them say the n-word you don't know anything about them. Americans (and I am American) are the biggest assholes BECAUSE we're American. We have our Red, White and Blue flag power pumped so fully into our veins that we think we're the shit, and everyone NOT so is shit.

That's the stereotype, not ALL of us, just most of the country. But the insults come not because of the general reason most of the time, but being made fun of gets into your head and obscures your judgment, making you more likely to slip up and do worse while the insulter gets the satisfaction of knowing they're messing with you and take advantage of your slip-ups.

Country doesn't matter to me personally, I'm proud of the fact that I'm from American and especially proud of my home city, Cleveland, Ohio. I feel it defines me as myself. That's why joking about a persons home can mess with them, their pride gets hit. Like in Knocked Up, when they make fun of the guy with the beard over and over again just for having it, it messed with his mind so he eventually caves in. That's the point of slag or insults or whatever, to hurt a person's pride to the point that they lose focus and cave in like a fat man walking in San Francisco, California. (making another American reference, you crazy oversea people wouldn't get it)

^-The above final line is a joke refering to the topic at hand and CheckD3 apologizes to anyone who would be offended by it, since they're probably pansies-^

The few people on Live I've encountered at a friend of mine's house have been complete 'tards. I'm sure there's some decent people out there, but, meh. I have a strange drony kind of accent (a cross between Irish and English with a distinct American twang) so I probably would sound fairly normal over your average headset.

First off, welcome to the site from another Irishman.

Second, don't even let it bother you. Peope are morons and there's nothing you can do. So just laugh it off and enjoy your gaming.

Personally I quit gaming online in Jan, as I got too sick of the rage and wanted to have fun again.

Racism onXbox live? Who would have thought.

Anyway it could be worse, I have some friends who if they find their teammates on L4D are French they accuse them of collaborating with the zombies and kill them.

Apologies If I sound like I'm trolling, I'm just pissed at most of my general public and their common prejudice.
Actually, the people you refer to have nothing to do with the IRA, and are just using it as a label in order to be arseholes to people. Take away the label, they're still arseholes.

Anyway, this is what the Irish Politics Group is for! To there.

Some Xbox Live games have a far worse community than others. Basically, I recommend you don't bother talking to strangers in Modern Warfare 2, Madden, or Gears of War 2. Some games have more polite communities - in Left 4 Dead, your teammates are usually fairly friendly, and the team is always friendly in 1 vs 100. Too bad 1 vs 100 isn't currently running.

It's taking everything I have not to put up a one word post of "Mick" and walk away, but that'd probably get in in trouble.

Joking aside. Racism happens. Americans catch it from everyone else for being American, everyone else catches it from us for not being American, and absolutely everyone catches it from 12 year olds, who believe "racism" is basically the same as "swearing" and will call me every name but whiteboy if I beat them in a match.

I literally join a lobby with my friends and no sooner have i said a word i get decended upon by brits or americans sayin oh look an irishman that can work the internet or other clearly well reserched insults or the british that
repeatedly call us idiots because of pre 1890s and sing ronan keetan to me.

karaokee aside i have never got so stressed playin a recreational activity then i have with mod 2 its as if once you can only hear a voice its alright to be racist or just a tool.

Now i am all for trash talk, christ i'm guilty of slagging someone over xbox myself but i never called a brit or a yank an idiot or bad at life for no reason generally they have to prove it for me to act up which as i said is within the first few seconds of talkin to them
so the message im tryin to say is that if your gonna be a spa over Xbox dont bring racism into it because it really dosen't matter if your black white asian latino or from wherever because there is a million other things to slag people over but the colour of your skin and where you live should just be outta bounds so your ethnic background aside if your bad at the game or just do somethin really stupid you deserve to be slagged but it really shouldnt matter about where your from because your just gonna be bad at the game so slag people about that and give over the online racism because if you think your being funny there is about 10 other people that think your a spa and clearly the attension seeker you are wont be able to handle people muting you all the time!!!

so just enjoy the game and only slag when people are bad, being an idiot or defending someone just dont be a retard and do it unprovoked because you people will die alone and unloved

but on that note if you ever hear an irish junkie playin xbox its the funniest think you will ever hear seriously get the family around its hours of free entertainment and is much cheaper then disney land
Use the mute button or grow some thicker skin. Its the internet, your going to catch shit from somebody somewhere.
For instance I'm about to give you shit for the awful grammar. Use punctuation PLEASE. Its really hard to read a 12 line sentence. The other point I would like to make is stop calling United States citizens "Yanks" and British people "Brits" unless its ok to call you a "Mick".

Recently my Xbox 360 died, and so I decided to try some new things, like going out with friends. The sun burnt me at first, but then I realized that there's a world where people can't scream into your ear that your a fag, or a cheater, or a 'haxxor'. I realized that even if people actually do this, I can punch them in the great outdoors. And so I find myself playing less and less video games, and actually enjoying my life.

My point is, it sucks. So just get away from gaming for a couple weeks or something. It actually does feel really awesome. And I'm not being patronizing or sarcastic, I really am serious. I find myself enjoying life more, and I've all but forgotten about online douchery.

But if you can't get away from gaming, just mute everyone. Mute all the voices in the game. Problem solved.

Yeah I don't talk on Xbox Live unless I'm with my group of friends. Especially with MW2. Never have I seen a worse community. Racists, bigots, people just looking for arguments, it's fucking bullshit. I expect Americans to take the piss out of my accent, it's a national perk. I'm English, and evidently we're a bunch of fucking morons, I routinely witness other English people get narky at Americans for being American, and then get narky at other English people cos they're from a different city or support a different football club. It's fucking ridiculous.

These are generally the same assholes who run around with an Intervention for quick-scoping and akimbo 1887s for all round douchebaggery.
Wait a second, what's wrong with quickscoping? It's not easy you know.
