Without racism, you would have to get to know people before finding a reason to hate them. That could take minutes or even hours.

HAHAHA, sorry but the people who thought that up are geniuses. I like a bit of jovial piss-taking, I approve of the concept of "banter" (which, for those who don't know, is the passing of insults between friends for comic effect). Generally it can help weed out annoying cocky people and brings everybody down onto the same peg. I'm guessing you don't really take offense at this behaviour, it merely serves as an annoyance. Personally I don't let it get to me, I'm a pretty short and posh guy so I take the piss out of myself for these reasons all the time. So yes, you try singing Ronan Keating.

Life is roller coaster, you just got to ride it...

This reminds of a story of a friend of mine let's call him F.
So F is on modern warfare 2 he and his friends are playing so F's buddy has a guy join their match the guy that joins immediately assumes that F is black because of his gamer tag so F's buddy corrects his friend saying he is Philipino so the guy starts screaming "OMG HE'S Fucking a *****"
F just laughed.

So the moral laugh at the morons who make fun of you and their tiny geographical knowledge.
That or your best friend the mute button.

I see exactly what you mean.

I could call you illiterate simply because you used a grand total of one full stop and one comma. But that would be unkind, and potentially untrue.

Being a pragmatist, saying the following comes rather naturally to me:

Its the internet, you're playing games. Men are tossers by default, and those claiming to be "gamers" are usually (note the use of "usually" there) and the dregs of even the tosser community. Get used to it.

Still: a valid point.

There are very few games that I play now without a blanket mute on all mics, If I am playing with friends I'll leave it on or un-mute them and only them. It's not just the racism it's just the general attitude of online gamers, it's worst on Xbox live but the PS3 is almost up there giving them a good run for their money. That being said the PC isn't spotless, it took me like 8 months to find a Team Fortress 2 server that didn't require me to block more than 3 people. Most gamers now just don't care, I'm not too old (only 20) but I mean when I started playing games online it seemed better it seemed less.... ummmm...... moronic for lack of a better word. The state of online gaming anywhere just pisses me off, I'm not going to say I'm innocent of trash talking almost everyone is, but there's an acceptable limit for fuck sakes. Laugh at somebody for doing something stupid and dying, or for walking off a cliff whether or not it's an accident it's hilarious.

As for the racism, it's not necessary anywhere but I agree with all of you that say it's just something that 12 to 14 year olds think is absolutely hilarious (I don't know why. I never did). I really that they think it's just a way for them to show off online, a way to grow their e-penis, speaking of which I wonder what would happen if you refused them any form of vocal or textual interaction with their fellow players.

While I'm wall-o-texting this I hate mic spammers also. There is nothing worse than some 14 year old kid who thinks it's the most awesome thing ever to make you his captive audience playing shitty music. Hell in one case on TF2 there was a guy who would constantly sing over the mic he would just hold the button and sing, he went for like 15 minutes (I blocked him fairly quickly, but others did not.)

Sorry for the wall-o-text, this is something that has been bothering me for a little while now. And I apologize in advance for any grammatical or spelling answers (not the intentional ones, I'm Canadian I don't care what the spell checker says there is a u in colour.) I'm fairly tired and just got off of work. I'll fix them eventually.

First off, you are playing a dumbass JARHEAD baby-killin' game.
Second, your system is designed for KIDS.
Sure there may be a few peace-loving adults on XBL,perhaps even a handfull of supportive team oriented players with whom it would be an honor to play....ok back to reality:
Game on a PC.
Play games for adults.
Racism will still be there waiting for you, but on most MMO's it isn't tolerated. Report abuse and griefing and it will often be dealt with to your satisfaction.
PEACE

Im from N.Ireland, people tend to think im some form of Scottish.

And i don't think that making fun of someones accent counts as racism.

Douche-baggery, is the technical term for it, i do believe.

Racism's a very strange thing because it's so contextual. In America I'm "Black" or African-American(btw, THE most retarded term ever), but when I went to Britain and Scotland, I'm just American where as Africans are "Black". Same deal with Australia, my cousin wen't there and she was "American" while the Aborigines were "Black".

Another thing I never got was why there's tension between the Irish and Black people (Mostly on the East Coast). I mean, I get WHY there would be initially: Both were battling for second place class-wise in the early 1900s, and a great number of blackface performers (the guys who basically gave us most black stereotypes) were Irish-American actors. What I don't get is that, seeing as most people of both races don't even know that history, why there is still animosity?

I am amazed the 'stereotype' of Irish being stupid exists! The Isle of Saints and Scholars are we not? The funny thing is, those kids will slag the Irish off on xbox live all day long, but as soon as St. Patrick's Day comes around, 'Oh yeah, I'm Irish, my grandmother came over here during the famine'*. This kind of carry on is one of the MANY reasons I have stopped playing MW2. I enjoy a good slagging match now, hell I am sure I enjoy it alot more than most people do, but there is a huge difference between having an adult slagging match where the aim is to one up each other to ridiculous degrees, and hearing some retarded 15 year old try out all the curse words he just learned.

*St. Patrick's Day, it gets abbreviated to St. Paddy's day. I corrected a few people online before(they were Americans) who called it Patty's day. What I got back was the most bigoted, misinformed and quite frankly retarded replies I have ever seen.

The funny thing is I read in some book before(it was some kind of massive dictionary, but it happened to contain every curse word imaginable) and it listed the entry Green-N****r, with the definition as something like, what the Irish were called when they immigrated to the US during the famine, it also say something like, 'the only thing worse than a n*****r is an Irishman'. Unreal.

I tend to avoid the subject as much as i could and not listen to people who talk what-so-ever. And it works, mute ftw!
But, it happens from time to time that even i get insulted, however, i find sexism more of a problem than racism.

But what are the odds of people who act like that coming on to this site, reading this thread, and actually taking it to heart?

This sounds like you've gone straight from Live to this forum, but it's not like I'd blame you for being incensed by being mindlessly insulted, I've had it happen when some Gordie GITS mocked me for being Welsh.

THE FUCKING CUNTS!

*Cough*

What I'm trying to say is that twats are twats, think of it like they're bees, they're doing something mindless and they're probably not really sure why.

I know how you feel man. Most people on Xbox live aren't worth talking to. Party chat may be disabled, but you can always mute everyone in the game minus your friends, if they're playing with you.

Well, the basic idea of trash talk isn't to let them expose a reson for you to call them stupid based on logic conclusions, but merely to piss peopel off, so they can't focus on playing their best.

I was playing MW:2 with some friends at one point, and one of them decided it was time for psychological warfare, so whenever a map started, he would hide someplace sortof safe, and just talk (type) trash to teh other team, and he would just go with whatever he could find that might get a response, so when people used their flags colors in their name it was easy.
He would go
"did you hear that "insert country here" is having a major crisis due to underpopulation cause all teh dudes are gay? i mean u can fuck each other all you want, no problem, but at least knock up your chicks for the sake of reproduction" or somehing like that.
Someone always ate teh bait and started whining and ranting, and usually more than one, so teh rest of us could easily pick them off while they were bussy typing.
I don't think they ever realized it was meant as a team-play-weapon and not just some random dude trolling, but then again, if they had ralized that, it would prolly not have worked.
