A great man is in that hospital right now. I hope he pulls through.

I will pray hard to the spider-god Anansi. Hopefully he can trick the lupus out of him.

Jokes aside, I really hope he will get better, I don't know him, but he seems like the last person you want dead. I'm not religious in that sense, but I believe that God every now and then helps a bit through the power of luck and coincidence. Hopefully he will look down at your friend and help him.
I've just been given a forum warning for saying that they should put their faith in medicine. No one has quoted my comment, or even complained in this thread. Then we get this asshole's remark.

Honestly, if I get banned for advising people to be supportive of Hospital staff whilst this insensitive joker is overlooked, I won't want to be a member of the Escapist. It is not the only forum I'm signed up to anyway.

I hope ace_of_something gets well soon, he sounds like a good person.
Wait, what? Sorry if I said something offensive, but what makes me an asshole?
I was remarking on the disparity of treatment by the mods. I would advise everyone here to be on their best behaviour and avoid making jokes as I feel a thread of this sensitivity if being watched quite carefully. So, review what you write before you hit the POST button. I did, but it didn't seem to help.

In your post, it really seemed like you were saying anyone who prayed for him was being a moron.
I certainly didn't intend that interpretation. Obviously, the OP was seeking "prayers from the community" and has received many and I do not wish to denigrate other people's faith, just as I hope the community would tolerate my devout Atheism. I wanted to make some kind of contribution, but felt that I couldn't say 'my prayers were with him' and raised the observation that the Hospital Staff were being sorely uncredited whilst in reality his life depended on them. I was being practically-minded when I said "prayer won't help" and saying what I felt would help that had been entirely overlooked by everyone.

I suppose just as I have to tolerate Christians telling me my recently deceased unbaptised loved ones are going to eternal damnation, all of you who have faith ought to tolerate those of us who make rational constructive suggestions that are based in provable concrete reality... the unfunny thing is that you never do - but I suppose that's the luxury that comes from being in the majority "with faith".

I really don't consider those with faith to be morons, just hopelessly deluded. Anyway, I think it's best if I retire from this topic...

I grew up with someone who had Lupus and he died actually two years ago from a fall while he was having a seizure. I hope he gets well soon and has a speedy recovery.

I don't think anyone here doubts the fact that the hospital staff is working as hard as possible.
And that line may have gone better in a thread that was not focused on supporting a fellow Escapist who is ill.
You...don't have to tolerate those people. In fact, you can tell them to screw off. I'd encourage it. Those are the kinds of Christians the rest of us do not need around.
Remember, not all of us are inconsiderate jackasses.
I really don't consider those with faith to be morons, just hopelessly deluded. Anyway, I think it's best if I retire from this topic...
And the smartass in me wants to correct you. They're hopefully deluded.
I do consider myself to be one of those people, mind you.
:p

And feel free to ignore this if you don't want to return.

I don't pray very often, but I will pray for him.

He's got a strong will, and there will always be hope that he will get feeling back into his body.

And at the very least, since he can move his fingers, he can give lopus the finger.

Now that shows spirit. I remember ace_of_something, I wish him all the best, I hope he'll be alright, seems that that's going to be case, good. Those doctors know what they're doing.

If he likes House...
I would've made a House reference but I decided that it was innapropriate to do so. Serious times need serious talk.
You know, I think ace would do something like that himself. Serious, yes, but humour can make almost any situation better. Or at least more easy to cope with.

Even though I don't know him too well, I'll keep him in my constant thoughts. Though I'm not the most religious of people and not the type that prays, I'll keep a little prayer in my pocket for him. My best wishes go to him and I hope he pulls through.

Hope you get well soon ace.
They should allow him to play videogames if he can use his fingers. He's missing out on MW2.

The problem is what House quote we're talking about. The only one that seems to come up quite a lot is a reference to how religious people are deluded: aka, what Uncompetative was doing.

That is called being a dick.
