I really liked the "Ask a cop" thread, and Ace_of_Something seemed like a decent guy. I'm not the praying type, but I sincerely hope that he comes out of this okay.
If i thought it would work i would try the Healing ritual spell. I once thought it worked on my uncle whom was dying from cancer. For the week that i did the ritual he was stable. The day i wasn't able to, he died... coincidence? not certain.
But hey i can pray and try some spells... Wish him luck & get well soon from this escapist.
