I can't stand people that buy games just because of the achievements available. Especially when there isn't any trying involved. Deadrising is a game with a good example of achievements that require you to try. Halo 3 is a good example of a game that adds achievements as part of it's damned marketing campaign. "Hey, Jimmy, don't worry that you just spent 60 dollars on that, you'll get some gamerscore whenever you beat a level! It's time to put on your helmet and get in the car"

And gamerscore is stupid anyway. It doesn't get me anything -.-. If they could make Gamerscore worth microsoft points or somethimg, I'd buy all the games they wanted me to.

I'm a huge achievement whore, and it bugs me that I'm not good enough in some games to get the multiplayer ones, i feel like i have failed :(

If you look at my GFWL (games for windows live, ya i know) i have everything for fallout 3 and i mean everything. collected every weapon shot everyone at least once, and so on.

I like achievement lists in games, its like something to shoot for while you play or if you start to get bored.

I like achievements, they add a challenge to most games, and will go out of my way to get them but if they're too hard I'll just give up.

I'm pretty hit and miss on achievement whoring. My most recent endeavour was Batman: Arkham Asylum attempting to get all achievements in that.

For the most ridiculous achievements, i.e. beating a developer in multiplayer (I'm looking at you GTA IV) I won't bother.

I prefer the term "achievement hunter", as it doesn't sound like I screw my Xbox begging for more gamerscore.

But yes, I try for achievements all the time. Even while I write this post, i'm trying to complete Cod: WaW on Veteran Difficulty, mainly for the achievements. I generally like getting achievements and increasing my gamerscore, but I won't go for achievements that require like.. 70 hours of gameplay, collecting every of a certain object (unless they're easy to find), and doing impossible things (like beating the main story mode in reverse). I also don't really like online achievements.

I do too. Especially since I got my GS back to 5s and 0s. If a game has odd numbered achievements I won't play it at all (like Watchmen).

Oh and we are now called achievement addicts. Gotta be politically correct and all.
What with all the smokers, I'm sure we were renamed the Achievement Getters.

OT: Yeah, I pretty much am. I got Fifa 10 yesterday, first thing I did was look through all the achievements.

I don't know why, I even cry a little inside, but I will play a bad game just to get the achievements. I am not fanatical about them. Yet... I have games here I don't want to ever play again. Games that are old and yet I can't delete them cause... I could get so and so achievement. I will even go out of my way, often doing something stupid and dying, for a chance at completing yet another achievement.

It is sad... Just as sad as all the screenshots I have of games I have completed the achievements through and through. Trophies that you can not hang on the wall, are they really worth it?

I read an article about achievement whores and hunters

An achievement whore buys the game for the achievements, eg avatar game
An achievement hunter buys a game for the fun but goes to all extents to get the achievements

I personally am the second one, a hunter.

Achievements are worthless but that doesn't stop me from getting them. Usually its just to feel like i accomplished something and did everything.

I'd say I'm more of an achievement hunter rather than an achievement whore.

Achievement hunters strive to complete good games and earn as much achievements as possible.
Achievement whores buy games only for achievements, including games like Avatar which offer you 1000Gs for 5 minutes of your time.

Only games I have 100% are Call of Duty 4, Prince of Persia, Portal: Still Alive.

I only go for them when I've beaten it, or I really couldn't care less about it and want to milk it for my money's worth

That reminds me. The 150 Gamer Score for completing Halo 3 on Normal. Heroic and Legendary EACH must be amazing considering if you complete the game on Legendary you also get the other two achievements.

150 x 3.
Yeah, I hate odd achievement scores. It's really annoying to have your final GS ending on 1 or 6 or something.

And it's actually 125G for completing Halo 3 on Legendary, Heroic or Normal. But it's still a lot! 375G to be exact.

Beh...I still haven't even done it. Any takers?

I am one, once i beat a game i try to get 100% completion on it; for instance, on Halo 3 i have all 1750G and all 79/79 achievements, the one thing i have not done is obtained recon which i am constantly trying to get the vidmasters: deja vu and endure, but usually fail horribly.
