This was so under the radar that I kinda knew it would pass, but its still possible to protest it so it gets retracted. Admitting we failed is close to giving up and thats the opposite of what we need.
Exactly. What we need to do is print out a copy of 'horror bill of the week' and smack protestors over the head with it until they finally decide to read the damn thing and realize how ridiculous they're being.

well, frack. it appears the first steps to an actual potental world war 3 are happening. why? because the goverments and large corporation are ganging up on us. the corps are using the govs as a tool to get to us, and if it happens once too many times. i promise you, there will be blood.

and lots of it.
I think that's an extreme stretch, and it'd be civil war, not international warring.

Lol, dude, the treaty is about HARDWARE PIRACY, like DVD-bootlegging. This isn't SOPA. The internet will be fine.
In my eyes, ACTA is potentially worse. SOPA could have killed the internet. ACTA could kill so much more. Humans, for one thing.
I agree with you RealityCrash.

How can ACTA kill humans ?

SOPA was nasty for two main reasons.
1-It screwed with the way the internet works.
2-It gave power to the companies instead of the government.
These problems aren't there in ACTA or TPP.

Making the laws more universal is a great way to bring harmony.
I most of the world the laws are less strict. Americans should be happy that crimes, that affects them, won't be as easy and safe to commit elsewhere. As for the "other"s I don't see how you can complain against these laws since they don't really prevent you from doing anything legal.
It bans cheap generic non branded medicines.

OT: Seriously people ACTA is not just about fucking with the internet if you actually look into it you will find it does a lot more.

That is the problem, Nobody has heard of ACTA. I only heard of it a few weeks ago and I have been doing everything I can to raise awareness since. I have dedicated a page on my business website to it, I have emailed everyone on my contact list about it and I have today contacted my local MP to ask him to help and to find out who I and others in my area can contact to get something done.

The problem is that this has been snuck through the back channels without proper consultation or public scrutiny.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzS5rSvZXe8 perhaps this will convince those who are "apathetic." What people don't seem to understand is that much of the piracy is in fact supported and distributed by media companies themselves. Yet they are never held responsible for their own actions. Companies like CBS are some of the biggest hypocrites I have ever seen in a long time.
I hope you haven't been getting all your information from a Youtube video, made up your mind, then found other people who reaffirm that opinion (likely others who have seen the video) and taken that it's fact. Do try to look at both sides of the debate, will you? Jumping to conclusions based on half the story is... well it's not exactly smart.

And if you found out about this via Youtube and made your mind up on the spot then I beg you to stop doing that.
I discovered that video today and am doing my own research. Along with that I am getting ready to go into hiding if the police start knocking on my door.

Obama proves irreversibly and forever that he is a real piece of shit who just doesn't give a fuck and has SIGNED ACTA: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/10/us-signs-international-anti-piracy-accord.ars
This just in, Syzygy23 proves irreversibly and forever that hyperbole is the only way to go, right away, about everything, forever.

Yes, assuredly, Obama signing a bill you don't agree with (or, possibly, understand) is proof that he is subhuman filth. There is no middle ground. He did something you (possibly) disagree with, therefore he does not give a fuck and is a real piece of shit.

Assuredly.

(you don't actually know what ACTA is or does, do you)

Obama signed into law the NDAA bill so he's definitely a piece of shit, also he's a POLITICIAN which is just a synonym for piece of shit. If you think he's you new best friend ever and that you need to rush to his add whenever he's criticized, wake up! the romance is over, he's just another pig in the white house. Democrats, republicans, both are just turds in a quickly flushing bole. Calling them a piece of shit isn't so much an insult as it is a sad fact.
Because hyperbole is the only way to discuss politics. Seriously, zero middle ground, it is absolutely necessary to leap straight to 'he is a piece of shit' every single time.

Oh and should anyone attempting to be a voice of reason dare to sound like they might possibly be defending said pieces of shit, the only logical response is to mock them.

Because reason is for suckers, I always say.

Nah, you're right. Wild, virulent hyperbole is the only way to go.

(Do I need to point out that you've misspelled words like 'aid', 'bowl' and 'your'? And that doing so sort of makes me take your wild hyperbole even less seriously? I don't really need to say that, right? That would just be tacky of me. Yeah.)

I know Ireland has signed ACTA too, haven't heard about any other countries as of yet, but it's so late in the game by now that even if we knew we couldn't stop it.

So congratulations everyone! Our combined apathy and inattentiveness has completely fuced over the internet we love and enjoy.

All we can hope to do now is damage control, and stop the Trans-Pacific Parternership, WHICH IS EVEN WORSE THAN ACTA: http://www.ustr.gov/tpp

And, although it goes without saying, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35TbGjt-weA
It can still be undermined, overturned and, if the Supreme Court steps in, declared unconstitutional and nullified. But why are you so upset over this when military personnel can now legally assassinate you?

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.339618-ACTA-as-dangerous-as-SOPA-PIPA#13746011
pipa and sopa are pretty much covered by acta, all seems like nonsense, we as internet users are in the middle of a pan governmental cluster fuck designed to change the way we interact and use the web, whilst simultaneously being told that the only creative entities on this planet are large productions companies and the people who sell and own their work.

Some of us, you lot apparently aren't in this group, care about our rights and don't want to give them up just because big business wants more control. If forcing Congress to listen to the fucking citizenry for once in it's useless existence insults you, tough fucking shit.
You "care about your rights". That's one way to put it, I suppose.

"our" means collective, if hed said "my" then id see where your coming from, as is I kinda just feel your shedding light on your own outlook.

So I heard about this horrible ACTA thing and was thinking it must be just like SOPA from how everyone was describing it. However it doesn't sound all that bad, plus if most of the democracies that are not as retarded as Americas goverment support it then I doubt it's too bad.
And where are these mythical non-retarded democracies? Italy, where the President is a porn pimp? Greece and the UK, where not only the economy but the infrastructure and fabric of their respective cultures are unravelling? All governments are liars and murderers, and every country, even every democracy, is run by ridiculous puppet people, including America.

Isn't ACTA a Treay started by the EU and not US Law.
Obama signing the treaty is a diplomatic formality, it is Congress that makes the derision to go for it or not, and even then its up to Congress to write the laws allowing the US to be compliant to ACTA or not.

If we (The US) back out now after signing the Treaty be nothing, how many treaties we broke in the past?

You are misquoting and misinterpreting the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act.
One is passed every year outlining the responsibilities and rights of National Security and the Department of Defense. It provides them with their yearly budget and allows out Department of Defense to legally carry out there job for the next year.

The whole arresting people and detainment without legal charges applies only to foreign nationals whose suspect of terrorism or spying outside of the 50 states of the US. Mainly applying to the prisoners were keeping in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, in Camp X-Ray.
As there detainment turned out to be grey area of legality where the US law in concern.

If you are an American citizen you have nothing to fear from the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012.

I'll regret this but... please explain to me how this treaty could kill people.
A big fear is that pharmaceutics get too expensive, as a lot of them are counterfeits - take them away and humans will die.

Our intense overreaction to this string of bills is beginning to read like a Dragonball Z season --

"Here comes the biggest and worst enemy of all time!"
"You may have beaten me, but I'm not really the biggest and worst -- now he's coming, and you're in for it!"
"You think you've won, but only because this isn't my true form! Now I'm even bigger and badder!"

Eventually, you're going to overdose your audience, and they're not going to believe you. See also: boy who cried wolf.
