If Activision stripped all of the cutscenes from StarCraft II, pasted them together into one big movie and charged between 20 to 30 dollars for you to buy it, would you pay? Activision's Bobby Kotick thinks you would.
I wouldn't, not as long as gamers have good capture methods and a YouTube account.

Of course not. If I was interested in the cutscenes, I'd buy the game. If you just string the cutscenes one after the other, all the pacing is gone, and events that transpired during the missions will be left out, leaving you wondering what the characters are talking about later in the game/"movie".

So... Take out the "game" part of a game, and sell me the cut-scenes instead? No, I don't think so.

Definitely not. Now the question is, will Activision now start forcing developers to include lengthy cutscenes? I imagine the developers won't want to bother, since they'll have to keep the entire narrative out of cutscenes anyway. (After all, anything in a cutscene will be removed and sold separately, and the game will still have to make total sense without the cutscenes, otherwise you're effectively forcing the customer to buy the cutscenes just to make sense of the story...)

I'm going to go ahead and say "No," followed quickly by "Go to hell, Bobby." There's literally no reason to, as others have stated.

Nope. I wouldn't mind see it in a collectors edition set, but $60 for gameplay, $30 for story; no thanks I'll stop buying your games 8)

No, I wouldn't pay for a string of cutscenes. If it was a coherently plotted film or short then possibly.

I love this guy. He just says whatever's on his mind and doesn't give a shit. That said, Blizzard has sold cutscenes before so there's a precedent for it. But taking it out of games? It'll never fly.

Don't even act like it will.

I often look up cutscenes on youtube, however the major plotholes make it confusing and send me to Wikia to fill in the blanks.

Would i pay for it? no. would someone? probably.

I got the Collector's Edition, and the making-of DVD has all the cutscenes available, in movie format.

So that's done.

Bobby Kotick is amazing. I can count on him to say something this stupid every week and he never lets me down.

Um no? Starcraft 2 cinematics were pretty generic anyway, why the fuck would I pay 20-30 bucks for that?
