Oh gee! I wonder why he's making THAT comparison!

I mean, it's not like there isn't a certain MMO being funded and developed around Star Wars right now by the direct competitors of Activision, which looks to be doing pretty well thus far!

Even if George Lucas wouldn't have decided to just prolong Star Wars for the sake of getting cash until he dies without coming up with another more up-to-date original IP of his own after 40 goddamn years...this comparison is indeed, quite doomed to fail. Because Star Wars can be taken in so many different ways that people are just bound to run into controversy with such comparisons.

Keep telling yourself that, buddy.

Hell, I don't even like Star Wars and I still disagree.

Ah Activision, when will you stop running your mouths? Sheer volume of sales should not be a measurement of comparison for Star Wars. Innovation, a compelling narrative and an engrossing universe should be the guideline.

Mass Effect or Halo could fit the bill much easier than Call of Duty.

I think that i'll sum up everyone's feelings by saying...

[HEADING=1]No. Just no.[/HEADING]

Wait, there's something even more outrageous - Activision Exec now proclaims: "CoD is bigger than sliced bread!"

So, we're spouting off random nonsense to make ourselves look good? Sure I can do that!

"My Penis is a force of nature. I think it is the closest thing this generation has to a Star Wars," Jandau told IGN. "I think it's unique and bigger than any penis or vibrator in that capacity."

There, does that mean it's true? If we go by Activision's example, yes it does. Also, by applying Activision logic, Farmville is this generation's Star Wars. And even if we stay inside the "hardcore" gaming segment, they are still beat by a mile by World of Warcraft.

Basically, no, CoD isn't "this generation's Star Wars", it's the gaming equivalent of pop music.

I'm afraid any comment I attempt to type will eventually devolve into the written equivalent of the sound of derisive laughter, and while I'll certainly find that entertaining, I somewhat doubt anyone else will enjoy an unbroken string of "Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!" quite so much. Ergo I'm restraining myself to just that one string of derisive text-based laughter through great force of will!

I can definitely get behind mocking Call of Duty characters via Jar Jar impersonations though.

cod is just another overated fps wich will be forgotten soon (if they do not make sequals like... cod8) while the original star wars changed lives for millions and changed how we percept a sci fi

Call of Duty makes all games some sort of monotonous trend. They're fun games...but NO! BAD ACTIVISION.

WOW! Activision will really open their mouth and say ANYTHING for a couple of blog inches won't they...

Meeting before announcement:

"Okay...we have to make an announcement today...ideas"

"We could announce a new game that is not a sequel?"

"We don't have any"

"DLC?"

"Not for a few more months."

"Okay, what if we just piss all our fans off? You know, how pretty much EVERYONE alive who plays our games is actually play CoD? And how EVERY geek alive loves Star Wars? Let's say we're better than Star Wars."

"But how does that help us?"

"It's an announcement isn't it?"

"Okay everyone, good work, you can go home for the week".

*Slowly tilts head* Really? No... just no.

Activision, I really love CoD 4(and slightly MW2), but even I know it is nothing near as revolutionary as Star Wars.

But I must admit, I like your confidence.

This is one of the reasons why I don't want MW2, and never play MW1. Despite it's small issues, I like Halo better. The developers never say anything offensive, there isn't the possibility of paid subscriptions for multiplayer, no Noob Tubes, Forge mode, better soundtrack, dare I say better single player, and despite how many other characters he's ripped off (look at my avatar) a generally cool and likeable protagonist.
Call of Duty has some of these things, but Halo has them better in my oppinion.
If you decide you want a cool modern war game, get a Splinter Cell game. I heard Chaos Theory is really nice.
CoD is okay, but Activision has made sure that everyone has reason to hate it.

is it just me or does this generation seem more cocky I mean how many times this year has a company proclaim they have the best game ever made or that a console is the best console ever made

CoD games are the equivalent of Michael Bay movies. Activision is officially the new EA. Starting to hate them more and more.

I'm mean sure they could make a Call of Duty movie and it do well but it wouldn't be anything different then any other military movie made in the past 10 years. Though I wouldn't be interested in seeing it unless it was similar to Black Hawk Down in mood and realism.

Ninja'd on the first bloody post? *sends army of pirates after ninja*

Anyway, let's see how many people will know who Vader is in twenty years, and how many will remember CoD. 'course, bold claims like that won't exactly help you with your image problem, eh Activision?

I think this is a strategy from Activision to make Kotick look less dumb.

Every single time anyone from Activision has opened his or her mouth this week, something completely ridiculous has come out.

It hurts me to think most developers are fired every time they finish a game, while this bunch of clowns remain at the company while doing this "work". They embody everything that is wrong in this industry.
