Halo already got that comparison. As did Mass Effect, and a few other games.

Its not like Star Wars in terms of success. Call of Duty didn't exactly revolutionize anything, except maybe WW2 battles.
And arguably Halo fit it better. Despite CoD having more sequels Halo has it's own story and universe. Only recently did Call of Duty, or should I say Modern Warfare, gain these things. Also Halo has more media outside video games. Books, comics, toys, "anime." Call of Duty had one comic series.

Even then I wouldn't compare it to the Juggernaut that was Star Wars. It is not even a comparison.

Well, he's wrong. Modern Warfare has only been big for about 3 years. Before that it was Halo.

If the franchise is still on top after a few decades he can say that, but not right now.

Also, Lucas didn't walk out after 2 films because of being scammed by 20th Century Fox. Think about that Activision.
Can I ask what you are refering to? I just want to know.

Hahahahaha... Call of Duty is no where near Star Wars... Star Wars is a classic still relevant 40 years later. Ask any kid who Darth Vader is and they will know. In 40 years no one will remeber CoD.
Of course They will! By then there will be Modern Warfare 35.

Well I think this explains why so many gamers think of themselves as un-fallible gods... their favorite publisher has the same complex.

C'mon, guys... no. I loved COD4, played it on Live until the very day that MW2 came out. I remember being in awe as my friend showed me the AC-130 level. I even had to sincerely warn my (now-ex) girlfriend that we'd be spending a lot less time together once MW2 came out. I bought MW2 first thing in the morning, with money I should have spent on gas. I've wasted many nights and countless rounds of ammunition shooting at walls in hopes of racking up forty penetration kills, so I could get one stupid weapon title. I don't even know the total amount of times I've prestiged between both games.

But Star Wars? Just... stop saying words.

This makes me a sad panda...

What's even more sad is that I used to be the biggest CoD fan for the longest time. I've played those games to death, and now with their idiocy, I will never be purchasing another CoD from them again.

"The challenge with any franchise like that is staying a step ahead of people and keep surprising them and keeping it fresh," he said.
Yeah.. How about surprise ALL of us by giving PC users their dedicated servers back, patch the ever living crap out of MW2, fire Kotick for being an idiot, and stop treating games like money trees.

Did the series make a ton of money? Yes, but it is no where near 'Star Wars' status.

No. Nein. Nada. No way is this even remotely correct in my opine. It could be feasible if the their current iteration of the COD genre wasn't flooded with cheaters and had a flawed matching system (I know, I know - I ***** and moan).

Star Wars is a cultural icon. There is no way a game or a series of games could compare to it - especially with the fanbase it has.

I say this is an insult to Star Wars fans and COD players equally.

Wow. I, uh... the levels of hubris here are kinda amazing.

You know, I'm starting to realize the problem here. They have no handlers. I don't mean that in a derogatory sense, I mean that a big company NEEDS PR handlers to keep leading questions AWAY from executives, and to keep said execs from saying amazingly stupid things to reporters. Because for the person who took these quotes down? They were internally fist pumping that they had quotes THIS stupid and ballsy. This is what you'd WANT if you're interviewing someone; for them to say something so insane, it drives up your views/sales/readership cause folks tell others folks 'You need to see THIS!', it gets relinked to places like this, etc, etc.

I'm glad I never bought a CoD game, because if I did, the money would've gone to his drug habit. He must be on something to make him say this, because there is no way CoD is anything like Star Wars. It may be popular, but when CoD starts making hundreds of books, comics, action figures and other collectibles I'll begin to agree. Star Wars is a phenomenon that will last for ages. CoD will die out within the next decade.

I always considered CoD4 and MW2 to be some kind of up-to-date reiterations of Counter-Strike. And I consider CS to be the game responsible for all these modern "realistic" shooters, and by "realistic", I mean games where you can't propel yourself into orbit with a semi-automatic rocket launcher.

So if Counter-Strike is Star Wars, grandpa of Sci-Fi, then CoD4 and MW2 would, at best, be... Stargate?

Well, never let it be said that Activison doesn't have confidence issues.

You know, they are right. There are a lot of parallels to draw here;
The first 3 Call of Duty games were good, just like Star Wars. Everything else has been crap, just like Star Wars.

You just got a ticket to the HMS Burn.

This is one of the reasons why I don't want MW2, and never play MW1. Despite it's small issues, I like Halo better. The developers never say anything offensive, there isn't the possibility of paid subscriptions for multiplayer, no Noob Tubes, Forge mode, better soundtrack, dare I say better single player, and despite how many other characters he's ripped off (look at my avatar) a generally cool and likeable protagonist.
Call of Duty has some of these things, but Halo has them better in my oppinion.
If you decide you want a cool modern war game, get a Splinter Cell game. I heard Chaos Theory is really nice.
CoD is okay, but Activision has made sure that everyone has reason to hate it.
Quit your whining, we've all heard these arguments before.
And you can't compare Call of Duty and Halo, so don't.

I personally think it is pretty close to this generation's Star Wars.
I like it better.
It seems you have confused me giving an oppinion to me whining. If you like CoD better, good for you, but don't smack down on anyone who thinks otherwise.

Given the depths to which Star Wars has plummeted (Phantom Menace?) after gaining such lofty heights......that's a horrible prediction for anyone to make.

That's like saying "we're the Corey Haim of this generation"

Activision logic 101:

Star Wars = Very successful

Call of Duty = Very successful

Therefore, Star Wars = Call of Duty

I mean, sure Call of Duty is successful, but then you can pretty much compare it to Paris Hilton in that respect. Successful without any apparent logical reason to go with it.

Y'know, as hard as price is, Solo could've taken him anyday. Even literally just after being defrosted from carbonite, he's just that hardcore.

Harry hill style "fight!" jokes aside, Activision have seriously disappeared up their own rear-ends, haven't they? "You WILL pay subscription for call of duty" "Call of duty is this generation's star wars!" What next? "Bow down before kali-soap! You will become a true believer!"
