I will also have to say Tom Cruise. We get it... you think you are god's gift to woman and the ultimate action star, we've seen enough. The deal was sealed for me with Mission Impossible 2. Directed by Tom Cruise, Produced by Tom Cruise, and guess what, Starring Tom Cruise! The movie was basically an overdone glorification of himself.

Another one I will add and I might get LOTS of flak for this one, but whatever... is Melissa McCarthy. She is decent in Mike & Molly, but she uses the same humor in all the movies she is in and it just falls very flat for me. She's lucky to get a smile out of me, just not my vein of humor and Hollywood has been placing her in EVERY comedy movie recently. Blagh.
Wait what? You think Misssion Impossible 2 was directed by Tom Cruise? That was John Woo dude...

OT: Zach Galifianakis and Melissa McCarthy. All they do in movies is "Hey look at this fat person do crazy things"

Hugh Jackman. In all fairness, he's not in that many movies, but my ideal number would be 0 or less a year. I just found out they're making another goddamn Wolverine movie, which drives me nuts because Wolverine isn't anywhere near my favorite X-men and even then, Jackman is miles and miles from doing him justice. On top of that, he was the star of two of my five least favorite films, Australia and Les Miserables. Fuck Hugh Jackman

Seth Green. His voice just started to annoy me after a while. Then it just seemed like all of his comedy was with the exact same set-up and punchline of "look at me, I am a smartass". (those two events may have happened in the reverse order)

Another one is Johnny Depp as many people have pointed out. I didn't mind it until Charlie and the Chocolate Factory came out. When I heard Depp was Wonka I was like "no, that is a terrible choice" and everyone was like "you are dumb he is perfect". After the movie came out, I was like "yeah, that was terrible" and everyone was like "you are dumb, that was awesome". I really started to get the impression that people weren't watching the movie and just saying "Look Jack Wonka is being quirky again ^_^". If you actually look at it, the movie is mediocre at best.

Tom Cruise too. Any actress/actor who only gets roles to be "the eye candy".

Sarah Jessica Parker should be taking into a field and let go like the horse that she is.
I was going to say Johnny Depp but then 10,000 other posters already did. I don't think Sarah J Parker is much of a starlet to be on this list, but I approve. :)

Hey, did you guys see that movie where Tom cruise played a flat everyman character? Did you also see the one where he plays the superskilled professional?

Cool, you've seen almost every recent performance of his.
And by 'recent performance' surely you mean 'every performance'.

OP: I read the thread title and immediately thought Johnny Depp. Looks like I wasn't the only one. Johnny's a good actor but I think he's abused his deadpan style to the point it looks like sheer boredom. And he does tend to play every character the same way, give or take a couple of Sparrow movies - he's either naively enthusiastic or grim and broody.
To this and all others who have bismirtched the good name of Johnny Depp I give you one film to prove his brilliance:
Great one-time performance indeed but he seems to lazily walk through every other role. Even his Jack Sparrow shtick everybody was raving about 10 years ago is getting old at four movies and a fifth coming up.
Well what do you want him to do with Jack Sparrow? Play the character completely differently for the sequels? It isn't Depp's fault that the way he played played a pirate in a film based on a theme park ride ended up being so entertaining the studio won't let the character die.
He could've NOT played him at all after the first three or four movies. I'm not saying he's a bad actor, I'm saying he's appeared in too many movies playing the same two or three types. The man needs a serious make-over before most of us get excited about "the new Johnny Depp movie". He's just not very interesting to look at anymore. Living off a few cult hits wears thin.

Tom Cruise for sure.
I like Will Smith, but I'm not into this recent flick he's doing with his son. Will Smith can play different characters while still being Will Smith. That's very hard to do. I believe that he's Hitch, but also Hancock... and somehow it works for him. Sam Jackson, Will Ferrell, and Steve Carell are all the same way.

Johnny Depp blows Tom Cruise out of the water. Chocolate. Edward Scissor hands, Don Juan, and all his older flicks. I give him respect for sure. He is multifaceted. To be fair, I think people should be more tired of Tim Burton and Disney more than they are tired of Depp. Tim Burton and especially Disney have become uber formulaic.

"Hey, we're making this new mov..." (Some producer)
"Cool. Count me in!" (Morgan Freeman)

-Johnny Depp, After watching the first two Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory all just terrible Depp needs to disappear from our screens at least for a couple of years.

-Will Smith, I actually like Smith but he hasn't done anything new in years. I guess he is too busy making his kids famous.

Another vote for Johnny Depp. He can do such great work, and then he can portray the same damn character over and over, transforming what could have been a fun idea into the Johnny-Depp-is-mad-eccentric-look! show. See Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and Alice in Wonderland. (I enjoyed PotC, though, and the problems with the third one weren't down to Depp).

Jim Carrey did the same thing to A Series of Unfortunate Events, which was also a movie with promise, wrecked by an overactive performance from a misplaced actor.

Jason Statham for me. I liked Snatch, but it seems like ever since then he just wants to be in some low rent crappy action movies.

Johnny Depp used to be my favourite actor before Pirates of the Caribbean. And from all the great performances he's done, like Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, and Dean Corso, the Oscars nominate him for Jack Sparrow... Ugh.

OT: Leonardo di Caprio

He's in more and more movies despite having the acting range of a goat. Even Martin Scorsese cast him in three of his movies for some baffling reason. Leonardo di Caprio with his boyish yelps as Howard Hughes, are you serious?!
Really? I think Leonardo is a great actor. He's been brilliant in his latest movies, and he plays a variety of different characters very well. He especially impressed me in Django Unchained.
He can scream and generally be angry. He can also cry on cue.
When he delivered exposition in Inception, it looked like he was reading his lines from a prompter.
He can choose his movies well though.

Jim Carrey.

I haven't actually seen him in anything in forever, but as soon as I do see him I am instantly tired of him. He doesn't seem to have any genuine wit, but people have clearly been telling him he's the funniest guy in the room for the past 20 years.

Even in the two serious roles of his that I can think of - Truman and Eternal Sunshine - where I would actually say he's somewhere approaching quite good, he has to do the stupid face-pulling, and you just know he did that out of nowhere and everyone on set burst into tears and kept it in because, hey, he's Jim Carrey and he just can't help being funny!

If he bothered to act properly and actually ditched the stupid shit then I'd quite like him.

All the Scientologist actors. They should all go away and never come back.
What's scientology got to do with their acting? It's not like they're going "You killed my father! And by the way, scientology is totally true, you should join us."

Derp, you are correct, I only blame myself for making a blanket statement without doing research first. However, the film was produced under Cruise's own production company, so he had more leverage in the content of the film. The movie just felt like a glorification of Tom Cruise and how awesome he is. The whole movie just fell flat for me.

Johnny Depp.
He is either quirky or a hot gypsyish guy.
I am starting to think that he is neither a good actor nor is he good looking

Johnny Depp just needs to stop playing the same character style over and over. Tina Fay and her loyal puppy Amy Poehler need to vanish from existence...

I actually wish DiCaprio was in more movies. Very under-appreciated actor who is always willing to learn more and better himself. You don't find that humble trait too often nowadays.

This scene in particular really impressed me.

[small]Also, the bloodied hand was real. It's likely that Broomhilda's reaction to him wiping it on her was real as well, as it wasn't in the script[/small]
I'm with you, I think Leonardo diCaprio is awesome, now he's grown up a bit, he's seemed to really come into his own.

Having said that this clip reminds me how bored I am of Samuel L Jackson. In the right place he's fine, but Sam Jackson playing Sam Jackson all the time is starting to grate on me. He was the only let down in an awesome film here.

I am going to go for Johnny Depp as well. In nearly every Tim Burton film both him and Helena Bonham-Carter are almost guaranteed to be in it, which I always find really off putting. I often find myself saying: "I am sure there are plenty of other actors you can use, stop using the same people over and over again!"

I am also going to go for David Tennant as well, I am not a fan of his acting in the first place, and he is in an awful lot of things as well. I don't think it helped that every morning on my way to work there was a large picture of him advertising Broadchurch (A Murder mystery that aired for a few weeks in the UK for anyone who doesn't know what Broadchurch is) so his face got pretty ubiquitous after a while, especially because he is advertising TIVO now as well.
