I think he deserved it, he showed utter contempt for customers who were bringing up valid concerns about the always online consoles (bad internet in many areas ) and he basically stuck his middle finger up to him.

OT: Eh, depends on what angle we look at here for whether he deserved it or not. Did he deserve to completely lose all source of income for some stupid comments? That's a little iffy, and varies to who you would talk with. Did Microsoft make the smart move? Yes. It was obviously coming, and Orth made a stupid move. Whether he deserved it or not, it was going to happen, and Microsoft is better without him for it.

Anyways, I would say it was a bit of overkill on Microsoft's part. Though I dont think he will be completely screwed. Though having to tell the interviewer for his next job that he was fired for spouting shit on Twitter may hurt his chances.
