So.. lately a lot of black people have been angry at me because I say "Black people" instead of "African American.." Personally, I think the term "African American" is stupid and incomplete.. what if I mean blacks in Africa? Or England? or Cuba? And what if a white guy is born in Africa, and moves to America? He would be African American too, despite being white.
The point is.. what is so wrong with just saying "black people?" We can say white, mexican, etc... but we can't say black now? Its only recently that this is happening to me

...btw, I'm native american

Nothing is wrong with it and anybody who says otherwise is pretentious and insecure.

Because people are idiots, plain and simple. It's the same thing with some black people saying, "I'm not racist; I'm black!" It's that kind of ignorance that annoys me the most.

People are just stupid like that sometimes, I've always used "blacks" or "black people" but I've never meant it in a derogatory way and I think that's what counts.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has thought this. Calling them black is really the only one that makes sense, at least to me.

There's nothing wrong with it. You know what? I'm just going to come out and say it right now. Fuck political correctness. It sucks.

Hell I say black, but it's not up to us. If they say call us african americans, fine. If they get offended if you say black than that's stupid, otherwise it doesn't matter.

I never really noticed; granted I don't know too many black people, the ones I do never seem to get offended by me calling them that. I know the correct term used to be African Americans, but I didn't think anyone cared enough now to keep that going, thus making either acceptable.

If they mind though, you might as well humor them, as it will make them feel better at really no inconvenience to you other than saying a few extra syllables.

It means "Africans" in "america". Although, if I follow that logic, how do I describe black people in Canada? African Canadian?

Anyhow, I describe black people as "black people".

Here in California we can't say mexican, apparently it's "their word", but we can say black.

Black is the acceptable term in England.

I called a mate of mine coloured and he said, "Do I look fucking coloured!? I'm black, that is kinda the opposite of coloured, talk sense man."

Calling him African American would make no sense as he is neither. I never got the term; are they only half American?

It's such a minefield. Living in England, African American isn't a phrase used. Sometimes I get frustrated that language is so imprecise. It's a topic that can't be resolved. Who would sit down and decide a term to use that was both accurate, and polite?

Wait....what!? If they're from Mexico, you're not allowed to mention it?

"So where are you from? Is it..you know, that place? The country south of here?"

I say African-American.

Although come to think of it, I never had a situation where I had to publicly specify heritage.

If "black" is politically incorrect, I will use it just to piss of the nuts who tell me not to say "Merry Christmas" because it's offensive to non-Christians. Seriously! You do your thing and I'll do mine.

A world where anyone can say anything about anyone is a world we should live in.
What?! Have you heard what comes out of people's mouths? There is real racism out there, like white supremacists, who genuinely believe that anyone but whites are dirt. Then there's the rascit attitudes of the Arabs who believe white people are the devil's get. Then there are sexist guys who say the most disgusting degrading things about women. These are a few off the top of my head.

An egalitarian world is the world we should live in. But that's never going to happen.

I say black. Colored implies you're red/white/green/blue and all the other colors combined in some way.

African American implies that your from Africa.

I fucking hate political correctness. Kind of hard to break down race barriers when you constantly make new and pointless ones...
