It's this reason alone why I never play online. I decided long ago when watching friends play halo and such that I would never bother myself with the online community, while I know that not all people out there are like that it just saves me alot of grief.

The MW games (and most likely BC games) has one of the worst gaming cultures I have seen in games since I started playing, NO doubt. I think that is rather interesting, does these fast paced FPSs breed assholes and annoyance?
I think it's more the massive popularity of these games, like everyone has heard of them, and so everyone plays them.

If they're boosting, make it your quest to hunt them down. Or tell everyone in game that they're trying it and then get everyone else to hunt them down.

I know right, i hate those little kids to try to boost because they can't get them properly. Something tells me they're scammers though.

Unfortunately it's unavoidable so just ignore them.

Still, the % of annoying, abusive and childish people you meet in MW2 is much higher than other games I have and still do play. It can't JUST be because they are more popular and everyone plays them, unless "everyone" are a bunch of complete assholes. Now that I say it tho, it doesn't sound too unlikely...

I haven't played MW2, nor is my Xbox set up with Gold, but I'm curious as to what the hell boosting is?
You go into a game with people and organise it to specifically get lots of Xp and unlock weapon attatchments etc. You get these by headshots or just number of kills, so organising 20 kills each or something like that

I only have the first Modern Warfare so I don't think it's as bad, but it's still annoying.
It's not hard to deal with for me though. I don't get many messages from my friends, so it's just a case of emptying out my inbox whenever I'm done playing.

It's severely weakened my tolerance for the little Xbox pop up thingy sound though. I used to like the little chirpy noise, but now unless it's for an achievement, I want to personify that sound and then slap it in the face.

A few weeks ago, I got a message after a game calling me a fucking noob for using an M16. The person in question sounded under the age of 15.
After a few more days, I was playing with silenced scar, and after the game, I got a message from a completely different kid, calling me a fucking noob for using a scar. Go figure.
Does the system allow for keeping/quoting or copypasting? Reply to the first guy quoting the second, when someone calls you a n00b for using something else you add the quotes until you end up with a 'ultra-quote' showing that every weapon in the game is n00bish and can just spam that away when you get insulted again.

EDIT: Or ask the mods to sticky the 'ultra-quote' on the message boards and put an end to it once and for all. *Keeps straight face*

It had to do with the people on the game, and yes - that's where most of the complaint basis against MW2 lies.
Em I have to strongly disagree with you there. A lot of complaints come from imbalanced gameplay due to lack of testing and cut back of several features from the PC release to control modding and squeaze some extra money out of the game from DLC. There are also many other valid reasons why the game is hated and not even have the hate is based around the community.

Why is a knife more valuable than a gun? Melee weapons that one-hit-kill, from any angle, with just a button push, have no place in a competitive multiplayer.
The knife is more valuable than the gun due to an imbalanced mechanic from CoD4 being boost by perks in MW2. The knife is also a one hit kill to keep it the same as the bashing technique from the other games. Being bashed by a rifle or pistol whipped on the skull is an instant kill. Also back then bashing required more skill as you did not lunge forward with it and had to aim the swing arc to hit them with it and bashing duels were quite fun. So with the mechanics of bashing and how they worked so well and that a proper bash from a soldier would either be a kill or knock you out I have to disagree that a 1 hit kill from any angle should have no place in competitive play. I would also like to add it was 2 hits from a pistol to kill unless you bashed then in the head. Thats right you could bash people in the head to kill them which I found great that they took that into account.

OT: Just block and report the people if necessary. They are just looking for similar interested people or the last person is being a twat. If you don't want to join just say no and if they persist in asking just block them.
I said most, not all...

So I recently got back into Modern Warfare 2 as a friend of mine got Xbox Live. After about 3 days of playing, I must have received 18 messages from random people asking me to join quick-scoping, no-scoping, boosting, clan initiations and knifing games... One little shit actually asked me to donate $10-$15 so they could buy a new tv.

What the fuck is it with this game and little children asking me to boost? I just want to have a good time, playing the game with my friends. I usually mute everyone but that doesn't stop them sending me pointless messages.

Is anyone else bothered by this? Or is it just me taking it to heart?
What is quick-scoping?
Where someone looks down the scope for a split second before killing you. It's a dick tactic used by arseholes who think a sniper rifle is a shotgun.
Because just because they use a tactic that's not even cheap. That makes them a dick. Obviously.

I hate it, never before have I wanted to hit children so much. Just do what I do, report the boosters and block everyone else.
You're never going to play against them again so there's no point in blocking them.

I had the worst one this morning... A squeaky pre-teen asking me to join a boosting game and donate $15 so they could buy a new tv...
You can block communications so they can't send you more than 1 message.

Oh it is cheap. They take advantage of the auto aim. You should not be able to snipe someone across the map by tapping the L trigger and firing.

There is some youtube vids on it. You really need to see it in action.

How could the Modern Warfare franchise have gone so wrong?

Killstreaks were a nice perk in COD4 but now they are just exploited to all hell, and the weapons have just gotten ridiculous. Why is a knife more valuable than a gun? Melee weapons that one-hit-kill, from any angle, with just a button push, have no place in a competitive multiplayer.

Plus it makes no sense that a small 6-inch blade can instantly kill anyone with a slash from any side... it's not like they've been hit with a lightsabre! I would modify the knife mechanics as so:
-draw time for knife when using rifle
-two hit kill from front (one hit kill if already weakened with fire)
-first hit = severe "blood screen splatter"
-One hit kill from behind if knife-button is HELD which does a grapple + throat slit manoeuvre
-MUCH shorter range of damage... maximum range only does light damage of a shallow cut.

But really the "melee" for close range combat should be hitting them with the buttstock for a stun-effect of dazing them and sending them stumbling back unable to aim. Successive hits kill, and 2x melee damage attacking from behind.

I'd also makes grenades less prone to abuse: variable fuse.

In fact this is realistic, modern military hand grenades have quite inaccurate fuses from as short as 3 seconds to over 5 seconds. So try to cook a grenade for a long shot and you may have it explode in your hand or at the very least high mid-air over the target.
I agree with this, But you could do 2 hits for a slash from the front, and lunges are harder to do and cause stumbles if they fail. Also, if you get by a lunge you go into a final stand style, then be able to heal yourself (pull the knife out like in the story)

It is really annoying, and unrealistic, it just means people who can snipe (mostly just naturally) have a huge advantage over people

Yes, yes, MW2 is evil and wicked and so on, so forth.

I honestly think I could put a thread up listing the amount of MW2 hate threads, and it would be stickied by mods just for convenience.
I think you should...

Except for quick-scoping/no-scoping (which are terms that should never have been made in the first place), which weapon/tactic can you use and NOT be called a noob for using it? TELL ME!
BC games fast paced? Compared to a turtle stampeding through peanut butter while going up a steep hill?

TF2, fast paced (faster if you play scout) and the only ass holes are the spies, sorry I just hate you guys who use them.

What you have to do to avoid being called a noob is, die a few times then copy there class, by calling you a noob there calling themselves.

Yes I realise that and that is what I disagree with. I disagreed with the statement that most of the MW2 complaints are about the player base. I think most of the complaints are directed toward badly made game mechanics and a greedy business model but that's just me.
