for me it has to be Peeping Tom, I've liked most of Mike Patton's music, tho some of the offshoots can be a bit...out there, and Faith No More were a legend. He said essentially, he doesn't like pop, but Peeping Tom is what a pop cd would sound like if he made one.

Also, I still like almost everything Blur did, its easy to knock em and just say all they did was 'parklife', but actually listening to a full cd shows they had quite the range of styles, certainly far more inventive and musical than the buskers-done-good, Oasis.

So, go on, give me one band people should know about and one popular band you'll admit to liking, even tho its not 'cool' to.

Hell, I've never heard any MCR, but the fact they got the Daily Mail to look stupid again, with their MCR are the leaders of a suicide cult' nonsense, makes me instantly like them.

Come on, guilty pleasures, MCR, Coldplay, Limp Bizkit, Creed, Vaniila Ice, let's make some people cringe :D

I listen to a lot of bluegrass and folk music. Had a friend show me a group called 'The Can Kickers' that everyone should try. It's banjo, fiddle music, and some guy from a punk band who can really drum well. They mix in a lot of electronic and rap to make a really wild sound.

The website pretty much sums it up: old timey riot music for dancing.

This is a link to one of my favorite songs by them:

Perhaps you should try the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain then. Here with their Nirvana cover...

I have to say I really liked OKGO too, typically only finding out about them after seeing THAT video, with the running machines, and again, showing that some imagination and a few hundred bucks can create something a hundred times better than the millions sunk into some corporate promos.

Disturbed [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disturbed]! I know quite a few people on the forums have heard of them, but most people I know actually don't.

I agree with the Symphony Orchestra bit, but I think They Might Be Giants broke up a few years back.
They were the guys that wrote "Ballad of the Sneak," right? Good band.

No I'm pretty sure that was Paul and Storm from Da Vinci's Notebook. They have a similar style though.

Gogol Bordello!

They're a group of gypsy immigrants (mostly from Russia/Ukraine) and they play punk infused with traditional Eastern European stuff...so good! If you like Flogging Molly you'll love Gogol Bordello.

They have better songs but not with better videos and this one is still really good:

Speaking of Flogging Molly, they're mostly Irish and play punk with Irish influences and more people should listen to them, too:
