Age Limits on Swearing?

I always tell my nephew off for swearing and try to stop myself but never works I usually break out various curses. When he repeats them, he says "well you said it" I'll usually reply with some bullshit like "yeah but i'm older" need a better excuse ¬.¬

I've stood by the fact that they're just words. And imposing limits on them is what's making swearing prominent among kids.

Without the fuss kids would hear swear words and think nothing of them.
If the word "very" had the same stigma we'd be kids yelling it out things like "I'm very annoyed!" as a substitute for "I'm fucking annoyed!" or whatever.

Treating them like any other word and removing the stigma would reduce their usage, not increase it.

Anyway, as far as 'damn' and 'hell' go, those aren't swear words. Those are normal words that conservative types like to claim as being swear words because they apparently go against the idea of not taking the Lord's name in vain, or something. I use those words all the time, and I'm a Christian who indeed used to be part of my local Boy's Brigade and considered joining my old school's Christian Union (though I've never really been that religious, to be honest).

As far as normal swearing goes, things like 'fuck' and 'shit', then yeah, I reckon there should be a limit. However, how would you enforce it? Most kids who swear at that young age are people raised in environments where swearing is commonplace, so those around them have no reason nor incentive to stop the kids from swearing. It's a nice idea in theory, though I swear myself I don't like seeing young kids doing so. But it's just not feasible in practice...

I'm not exactly saying that, although in my perfect world, (where there wouldn't be age limits), alcohol and tobacco wouldn't be sold to anyone. And yes, I do know that would work as well as it has in the past, but I'm allowed to fantasize, aren't I?

In the world we live in today, age limits on things that are harmful to your body should still be in place. Actually, what 5 year old would have the money to buy any of that anyway? They'd quickly learn the value of money anyway.

Nope. I think that this system isn't very good. Age is not equal to maturity. People should be able to swear more as they get more mature, not as they get older.

My opinion on the matter is that people have ruined swearing. Instead of swearing being used to express extreme emotion or pain or whatever, it is now used to sound "cool" and "badass" - example.

1)I am in pain.
2)I'm in fucking agony!
Clearly it seems #1 is in more pain than #1.

It's kids who just go "Well I f-ing walked to the f-ing shop to buy some f-ing sweets motherf-er" that just makes swearing seem idiotic.

This reminds me of a time in grade school. In my school, it goes from Kindergarden to Grade 8, so there's a gap. I was walking by the kindergarden hallway and I heard some kid, maybe 6 or 7 years old, the "FUCK!" just in the middle of the hallway.

Well I'm 22 and I swear like a sailor.

Still, in my home the worst thing I say is "damn" even during the worst fights. That's how my parents raized me so I don't swear in front of them, relatives and strangers.

I am myself slave to alcohol and nicotine, so why not legalize the whole lot.. Sure, I'd have some rough weeks in withdraw, but it would all turn out nice..
