"Except the very moment we set off those explosives, they're gonna send a copy of all their files to some external location and then format their hard-drives and erase all the data, rendering the entire operation pointless and wasting our time, resources and risking our lives." exclaimed a rather miffed Amber.

"And that's assuming the power to the computers stay connected. If the power goes out there as well, odds are they'll just physically destroy the damn thing rather than let us have it. Whatever route we end up taking, we can't afford to get noticed until we have those files."

As she was saying this, she pulled out her mask and put it on, going through and familiarizing herself with the HUD as she was talking.

"We've got a great techie, who ought to be able to scan for pressure plates and sensors and the like. Even if those are there, we owe it to the mission to rule out those possibilities first, before we start blowing up half the compound. Jackass."

"Ohh, Jesus Christ." Monaghan got to his feet and began working up the coffee machine. "You're so incredibly wrong, it'll take me a few minutes to sort it all out. One, this isn't A.I.M., this is A.I.D., you might not be familiar with the difference. Here we've got mercenaries equipped with A.I.M. technology. In many ways that makes them more dangerous, it also makes them less esoteric. If they have thermal sensors, pressure plates, laser tripwires guarding everything, do you know what will happen?"

"They'll be shut down or ignored. You have mercenaries - likely fairly well paid mercenaries - working in a base close to a major city. They send out patrols regularly, and it's likely some of them head out of the base - approved or otherwise - and frequent strip clubs and brothels. These are just men and women looking to get paid. They're unscrupulous, but they're just people. They don't have magic, or mutations. Just some advanced technology on loan and greed. They're not even fanatics. The weakest point in any fortress is the Human element - if they have all these security measures, it's -better- for us. These alarms will have been going off constantly, day in and day out. It'll be the boy who cried wolf."

"Massive firepower is -exactly- what they would expect. This is Red Skull and A.I.D. we're dealing with. They deal with people like Tony Stark or Captain America. The X-Men, the Avengers. Those are the kind of threats they're used to facing, the kind that blast through the door and start tearing the place up. But we aren't the Avengers, we're soldiers."

"Anyway, how do you propose taking out the power -without- infiltrating the place before hand? Even assuming that our spy is completely wrong - and she isn't, she's absolutely right - we'd still need to get someone in there to blow it up."

He finished making the coffee and picked the pot up, taking a drink from it. Ahh, that's better He walked over to the map. "We have three priorities when we get in there. First and foremost is the data. We need that no matter the cost. Second is the communications. Preventing the base from informing Red Skull and any allies they may have from knowing about this raid until we're already drinking to our success. There's two parts to that. First we need to cut any land-lines they might have. That shouldn't be too difficult. Secondly we're going to need something to disrupt wireless signals. We cut the landlines and immediately thereafter send the signal to activate the jammer. Once the jammer is online, the Heavies launch their attack. We terminate or capture all A.I.D. targets."

"Obviously, the inside team is also going to need to make sure they have no security measures that could ruin our day during the assault. Turrets, missiles, orbital death satellites. We're also going to be out of contact once the jamming goes up. But we're professionals, we know what to do - as soon as the jamming goes up, we go weapons hot and storm the place. Infiltrators take the defenders by behind and we link up, then we go find Lohmer, capture or terminate. Once that's done, we throw up blue flares and the transport comes by to pick us up. Job's done."

"That's the broad strokes plan. At least, it makes sense to me. So now for the details?"

"I know it has been mentioned before but A.I.D. is a group that spit off from A.I.M and both are known to at least be getting most of their support from the Red Skull, if he isn't just outright controlling them. McPhearson, you are basically saying these men expect the tactics of black widow or a small team of black ops. But at the same time they won't expect the tactics of Stark, Captain America, or a major S.H.I.E.L.D. strike force. Your plan wants us to avoid the one strength we have, speed and small size.

I'd be happy for the opportunity to bust in some A.I.D. heads, but your plan seems very likely to end in mission failure or death. I mean, I have super strength but if my armor goes I'm dead, and believe me when I say I'm not wearing armor designed to face an anti-tank missile." Cynia said almost somewhat torn about the idea of breaking through the front door. If they weren't facing a group that would instantly destroy all data in the compound and likely kill one or more of the attacking group she may go for it. As it was though, she didn't like their odds if it was three people versus an entire base on alert and already destroying data.

Ash frowned disapprovingly at McPhearson's plan.

"Gonna be preaching to the choir here, but a full-out assault is a great way to get killed and compromise the intel. Lohmer and his cronies won't expect a covert break-in because that's the entire point of a covert operation!"

He paused, taking a moment to cross his arms and recline against the wall. "Agent Monaghan is right on the money. We need to cut their communications first, and after that we have to move fast and hit hard. Capture the intel and bag ourselves a Nazi. My abilities don't lend themselves to subtlety, but what they can do is very decisively eliminate their landline communications. Some carefully placed explosives will make short work of 'em. From that point on I can provide heavy ordinance and fire support." The unintentional pun made Ash smirk somewhat. "That is, of course, assuming that this will be our plan of action."

"Well, now we have plans for either situation. If it's quiet, we can go on with Monaghan's plan. It won't take all of us to cut communications lines. When we're making our way inside, we can see exactly what we're dealing with, whether it be a hallway of mercenary guards taking an afternoon siesta or an empty hall full of tripwires and laser sensors. It's nice to have un plan B." She kicked McPhearson's suit a little, annoyed that he hadn't taken off a part of it yet. "Es ist ein wenig von einem, ein wenig von den anderen."

As the actual plan was discussed, Charlie was starting to feel a little bit better about his role, considering there would have to be some actually attacking on his part. Plus, the compliments he was receiving on his skills even sight unseen was pretty nice. It was tough not to blush a little. I guess I am pretty damn good at it. Top of the class. And again, least I'm finally getting out of this place for a bit.

Charlie stood back up, and resumed leaning on the pod. "Well fine then, if we're going to do this, I've got a few basic programs on my laptop that I might be able to use to do some preliminary shut downs on the base. It's nothing special, and I'm going to need wireless in the area to be able to do it without jacking directly into their mainframe, but it's possible."

McPhearson sighed and sagged down into one of the seats. Fuck. It's hard to be taken seriously when a tiny German woman is kicking me in the shin , he thought to himself.

"Alright. If everyone believes covert to be the more successful plan, then I shall follow Monaghan. If and when things begin to derail, I can still cause a distraction at either end of the compound. Communications will be down, so you will have to find a way of signaling me" He gestured to the back of the map and continued "I will not be able to establish a perimeter by myself, but I am capable of creating cover and establishing a safe zone that anyone can fall back to, in case we are overwhelmed. Conversely," he nodded towards the front of the map, "I can establish a fire zone with one or two squad members at the front of the compound. Whichever we need, but there will have to be a different signal for the two."

Diana was still lounging in her chair, listening in on the plans with disinterest. Not because she found the mission itself uninteresting, but more because she figured her role wouldn't change regardless of what plan they went with.

Diana sat up and voiced her thoughts on the matter "That sounds like a solid plan. I'll probably be spending most of the mission on the outskirts of the base myself, if Mr Shiny can set up a defensive perimeter to fall back to, I could help by providing fire support. And though I don't doubt our ability to successfully perform a covert infiltration, staying hidden throughout the whole thing might be difficult. I'd wager that this mission is gonna end in a firefight, if not with the mercs, than definitely with their super powered field commander. I doubt Master Man is just gonna let us take him without a fight, and having a firing range set up and waiting outside could help us take him by surprise."

"Agreed, eventually we're going to need to go weapons hot. It's just important that we remain undetected until after we have the data secured. Once that's done, any other damage we can inflict before being found out is just a bonus. Although I wouldn't mind getting in and out without being detected, Master Man's sleeping body in tow, and then call in a missile strike on the place. I haven't gotten a good fireworks display in a long time."

"I'm not really one for blowing it up. I'd rather get the info we want then try and take the facility as our own. Just make sure we don't allow them to take anything too big with them." Cynia said as she sat down in a chair and leaned back.

"So what got you all picked to join this group anyway?"

"Because I am le plus grand médecin de l'air?" Millicent flourished her syringe proudly. "Ah, perhaps that was an overstatement. But nevertheless, I am a skilled doctor, no? I was also willing to go out into the field. Medics aren't very skilled unless you're talking about faire avancer les choses infectées, no offense, and doctors aren't very willing to trudge out there in the mud and possibly getting killed. I suppose I was good without being too valuable." she shrugged. "I assume most of you got chosen for your powers and specialties though, since that is what this group seems to be founded on. Gott weiß you weren't chosen for cohesiveness."

"Oh, I think we can learn to be cohesive, Millicent." Diana spoke to the good doctor in a cheery tone as she stood up from the chair.

"I mean, Fury wouldn't have picked us all if he thought we couldn't work together."

"I dunno." said Amber a sly smile creeping onto her face, "I like to think that I help keep things stuck together."

Yeah, it was a groaner, but those were the kind of jokes she loved best. Her grin only got wider as she deactivated the adhesive on her thighs, leaving her hanging from the ceiling by her feet.

"But yeah, I guess this," she said, pointing at her feet, "is probably what caught their eye."

"Yeah, those individual toed boots are kinda eye catching." Diana joked back at Amber.

"So how'd you come to get stuck with that suit anyway? Is it your own design? I've never seen it before."

"The R&D department basically has me hooked as their guinea-pig for field-testing this thing." Amber replied, stretching luxuriously with the added pull of gravity to go with it.

"I was stuck in there checking their tax-reports for Wakandan import-fees on vibranium when they offered me the chance to test this baby. We all seemed to like the results, so in exchange for getting me away from their quarterly business expenses I have to field-test this baby for the next several years as they work out the kinks. And by the looks of it," she said, briefly detaching one foot from the ceiling and using it to scratch the other leg's knee-socket before reattaching it again, "They're doing a decent job at it."

"So far as I know, there's only three or four other suits like it, and none of those are tested outside the lab. Apparently these things are too expensive to field-test with anyone other than professionals." she finished, a note of pride (not arrogance, just pride) in her voice.

"So how does an accountant get trusted with advanced military R&D equipment. I mean you have to have some other skills outside keeping track of the check book and being able to walk on walls." Cynia said from where she sat, looking up at Amber as she spoke.

"Now as for me, I'm not quite that fancy. My power isn't a suit or knowledge, just good old fashioned enhanced strength and a lot of military training. Basically I'll be acting as something of a hand-to-hand specialist, though quite often I find hitting them with this shield here" She lifted her left arm to accentuate her point "works just as well. Though there isn't anything special about it, so don't expect any Captain America style antics." She said with a laugh at the thought of her throwing her riot shield only to have it come back to her.

"And then one day you wake up with cancer." she smiled. "That's the problem with experiments. They're experiments." She found her eyes wandering to Monaghan as she said that. Some end up worse than others I suppose. Still, Mendoza really fucked that one up, didn't he? "Of course, don't let me stop you from volunteering! Look where it's got you, in a nice little special group."

"Most experiments usually do, although those groups are usually quarantined behind plastic sheets rather than sent out to capture dangerous criminals."

Diana spoke while walking around the room, parking herself in front of one of the windows, looking down at the cityscape below.

"My reason for being here seems pretty simple. I'm a good sniper, and every team needs one of those. My powers might also have had something to do with it too, being able to slow down time does come in handy on covert missions."

"Yeaaah, uhm..." Amber always found this particular part of this topic slightly uncomfortable to talk about, but she figured that if she was going to be working with these people, it was probably a good idea to establish a certain amount of trust.

"Okay, I'm just gonna be honest here: doing their finances was the brass' way of punishing me for fucking up a mission 2 years ago. A group of idiots in Maine, technologically gifted idiots but idiots nonetheless, decided to try and recreate Whiplash's whips... without having any of the blueprints. I was sent in to try and shut their research down before something bad happened, and take down the scientists afterwards. Long story short: I got spotted, they tried to use the whips to defend themselves, and one of the whips experienced a power surge. Half the building came down, part of it on me, trapping me. I got pulled out of the rubble by civilian police and Director Fury had to flex some serious muscle to get me out of jail and cover up what happened.

I didn't know what to expect happening next; part of me thought they would just kill me and get the mess over with, but I guess the Director had other ideas. I was allowed to stay on, but basically relegated to paperwork. But one day R&D needed someone with a better physique than your average micro-chemist, and I happened to be around that day. And so, by R&D's request and with the boards approval, I was brought back to active duty."

Ambers smile had slid off her face somewhat, as she'd become slightly flustered at having told that whole story.

"Well," she began, trying to pick herself up again, "You've got my VH1 Behind The Music episode now. Do you want the Celebrity Deathmatch to go with that or are we good for now?"

Neil had been sitting against the table listening to it all. Normally he wasn't much of a talker, but since this was the 'getting-to-know-you' phase, he figured he speak up.

"Hmm what possible use could Fury have for a nine foot tall, eight hundred pound slab of muscle?" He asked rhetorically, a smirk on his large face. "I guess it's pretty obvious why I got invited to this little shindig, just don't expect me to go all 'Hulk Smash' out there. Even in armor I'm not that strong."

Looking at Amber, the big man gave her a friendly smile. "Hey, it's not like you took the building down. You just can't stop some people from being total idiots sometimes."
