I guess your confusion comes from my poor phrasing (not a rare occurrence but not rarely is my poor phrasing fatal) I merely meant to agree with him on both points of his post. I also have a horrible tendency to never be quite satisfied with a post so I some times edit. Any way, hope that clears things up....Maraveno said:the... second 1?.................Dragon Zero said:Thank God I thought I was the only one to think that on both accounts.Aby_Z said:No? I enjoyed the game despite the lack of story. I like leveling up and getting better loot...
On a side note, I don't see this ending well...
Edit: plus I also liked the funny voice recordings from Tannis. I hope the second one adds a bit more of a story but I love the game none the less. Plus I never see Yahtzee's reviews as anything other than entertainment.
ehm....

Ok stupidity aside he got suspended so it didn't end well
And I didn't like the game cause the mission thing is bugged
Admittedly, the plot was pretty bland, almost non-existant even, and the characters were a small part of the overall game, but the entire package just exudes this certain charisma that just draws me in.Kurokami said:I must have played a different borderlands to you, cause the world was... well Grey is probably the most accurate way to describe it, the characters were almost non-existent, and as for the gameplay I found it to be fairly average.
That being said I disliked the game, not gonna rip on anyone who does though I must admit I was glad to see so many people shared my opinion when Yahtzee ripped on it, cause I thought I missed something until that point.
I enjoyed the bosses you kill with their intro's but that's probably one of the only blebs of depth the game had for me, admittedly I didn't go out of my way for the recordings, nor did I read most the text for the quests as even the way it was presented bugged me, not to mention the first ones I read stood out as cheap gameplay excuses. Kinda like in Mass Effect 2 where its like 'here's a simple mission objective, but for [prettycheapreason] you have to destroy an army before you get to a relevant bit'. Also the area's look fairly generic, though the dialogue and story make it worth it... hmmm... Lost track, though it does support my argument in a way. I guess the characters were kind of interesting, in a redneck clowns with leprosy kinda way, and yet they went fairly neglected.MorsePacific said:Admittedly, the plot was pretty bland, almost non-existant even, and the characters were a small part of the overall game, but the entire package just exudes this certain charisma that just draws me in.Kurokami said:I must have played a different borderlands to you, cause the world was... well Grey is probably the most accurate way to describe it, the characters were almost non-existent, and as for the gameplay I found it to be fairly average.

I've always been a fan of wasteland-esque games, but Borderlands did something different with it. It has this colorful, wacky world, instead of the grey and brown of other games. I loved fighting with bandits, meeting all of these outlandish characters (even if they were rather unimportant), heck, I want as far as reading ALL of the quest dialogues, listening to audio recordings, etc.
Overall, I just found an entirely interesting experience. However, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned was horrible. Just sayin'.
Its generally constructed of him presenting facts about the game (explaining the mechanics, story, blah blah) and then saying his opinion of them. Yes he's an entertainer, not a reviewer and no, no one can make you like him but an opinion of a game can't be wrong in a general sense, only a personal one. Without justification an opinion is useless though, you're right there.sidereal_day said:This sort of relativist nonsense is just that -- nonsense. Opinions can easily be wrong, or at least wrong-headed if they aren't based on facts. "I think the theory of gravity isn't correct" is an opinion AND is wrong. See?BolognaBaloney said:Although, you can never be right or wrong about a game, seeing as different people will enjoy different games. It's all a matter of preference.sidereal_day said:Yahtzee is often wrong about games, so it is unsurprising he was wrong about Borderlands. Honestly, him being wrong about things is such a regular occurrence I hardly felt it necessary to point out that he completely missed the point of the game.
Yahtzee's reviews are hardly if ever based on facts. More like an aggressive determination to be an asshole and amuse people who think an opinion can never be wrong.
